Eventually we will need to trade Caufield before he becomes ufa

Americans don’t want to play in Canada unless they are on the last year of their career or beginning of career.

That’s a fact

Just like gaudrea
Just like Mathews from Toronto will want
Just like tkachuk from Calgary will want

What? Caufield was literally hanging out with Suzuki and Molson at Laval games + was doing community events.

Petry signed here twice and didn't want out until covid.

Gionta signed here for 5 years

Harris was gonna be UFA nut signed here

Blake Wheeler signed with the Jets

Kyle Connor is signed until he is 30 with the Jets.

Lots of American players play for Canadian teams. Those are just the first few I thought of for 2 teams. The list gets long pretty quick.

I mean he said he's even looking to add an RD vet on top of it, so clearly, his plan from the start was not to just get rid of Petry's cap.

He was targetting vet D's back.

We can expect the majority of our young D's starting in Laval in October.

He's simply erring on the side of caution with the prospects. As he said numerous times, he doesn't want to put the prospects in positions they're not ready to take on yet.

If they prove they can take it on, then they will earn that spot. But the club doesn't know that at this moment. So they will ensure they are put in places to succeed. If that means in Laval, then that is what they will do.

Are you guys in favor of picking high in next year's draft? If yes, then you should embrace Matheson.
I embraced the trade because Hugues said they would trade him to get less cap than possible.

This is a fail. Id rather pay for Petry at 50percent for 3 years than Matheson. Florida hated him , Pittsburgh fan hated him.

I can't take some posters seriously anymore on here. He might be a late bloomer and hes great to watch . The same people that probably don't even watch other teams.

It's funny because if you read the thread from the start, you can see people being mad at because Poehling was a sure shot 20 goals scorer while saying Matheson is a great top 3 dman.

Reality is Poehling was always a bust and Matheson will compete with Wideman for the most turnovers of the season

If Petry had value he would have gotten a good return. He’s been shopped for a half a year with not many takers. This trade represents his value which is very little.
I disagree. Players are frequently traded for returns that don't fit their value. Whether it's misunderstanding by the GMs or other reasons, sometimes players are horribly undervalued or overvalued. This is a case of undervaluing Petry and overvaluing Matheson, which is a double whammy. I think Hughes was willing to take a loss because he wanted to get Petry out of the room, which is fine, but taking back a massive cap dump isn't the way to do it. I'd rather Petry sit at home than take on an extra year.

On his dads insistence !! Look it up

Petry almost didn’t want to play in Montréal he wanted Detroit.

It was petry dad that convinced him to play in Montréal

Fact

His wife didn’t
As long as you say fact lol. "ALMOST" didn't wanna play in Montreal but did? And choose to be in Canada more than once.... Gotcha lol.
So are you saying he almost didn't want to but did want to and signed?

I understand with covid n kids ( which happened after he CHOOSE to sign in Canada a few times ) his wife wanted the US. Totally makes sense.

Well.. Pens fans have a lot of good things to say about Matheson. Hughes, as well.

I'm just gonna trust the process.
He’s fast, electric and has a great offensive awareness. You’re gonna see him grab the puck from the D zone and score goals from end to end with no help… VERY fun to watch.

He takes alot of risks but if you pair him with a stay-at-home D, he should be fine.

I wish him the best!

We still don't have enough cap to sign Dach with a 12-6-2 lineup so I'm wondering what else we're cooking.

Feeling pretty neutral on this one, wanted Petry gone the year of the playoff bubble when him and Tatar would’ve fetched assets instead lost both for nothing and in Jeff’s case had to take back $. Know Hughes wanted a vet D and that’s probably the going rate in terms/$ they cost. Don’t think this improves our tank odds and if let’s us develop the kids better guess it’s ok.

Shocked to see Petry’s value has improved going to Pittsburgh :sarcasm:

And in the end you will end up happy with another lottery pick.

I know, It was more a response to posters that thought we were just going to trade everybody for picks and play 5 rookies on the backend right away.

I for one and happy the Petry saga is over. Loved him while he was here (and happy to be here) but he obviously wanted out and it was time to move on. He doesn't fit with our direction and it feels good having a management team that seems to have a plan. We spent so long with MB at the helm lacking vision on what he was trying to build.

In terms of what we're getting back, it was very apparent that we wouldn't be getting what we hoped for. McDonough/Burns with underwhelming returns and cap space seems to be at a premium in this flat cap era. We need some experience on the backend and Matheson fits the bill. He's caught my eye in the past for the good and the bad but looks like he had a good year with the Pens.

The kids in school thing is a way bigger deal then people realize. My sister was in high-school during this chaos and she legitimately had 1 teacher actually doing his job over 3 semesters.

For every other class with difficult material I was the teacher, because while remote learning can be effective a bunch of teachers didn't take it seriously at all and a ton if kids fell behind.

More than Dach in fact, Montembeault and Primeau needs contracts too!
If Price plays those two will be off the cap in the AHL though. I'm guessing one of our many underperforming middle-six wingers are on the way out or Price has already confirmed to Hughes he's not going to play next year.

Our defensive depth chart now:

Edmundson Barron
Matheson Savard
Harris Wideman
Schuneman
Xhekaj
Norlinder
Leskinen

A lot of LD's. Not too many RD's.

Seems like Byron might not play again this year too or barely so maybe they know something we don't with those two.
