Holy over reaction Batman.
We basically got a younger left handed Jeff Petry who has pretty decent offensive skills very good skater is from here and is someone who will mentor and maybe even billet one of our young D. The one knock on Matheson is he does have the odd brain cramp (sounds familiar right.) His contract will not be a problem whatsoever and he will definitely be someone who will have trade value down the road. Watching Florida's horrible D in the post season last year made me laugh when I compared Matheson's play to Weegar's. I felt the Cats kept the wrong guy. And for those saying we didn't clear cap space you are being disingenuous. Hughes is whittling away. Welcome home Mike and for Jeff and Ryan don't let the door hit you on the way out.

That’s more or less the way I see it, sorry if you disagree.
I thought that way before Hughes came, but he’s proven to be very knowledgeable and the furthest from a puppet. They’re working as a team. The biggest failure of Molson was letting Bergevin work independently. You need a team of hockey people now.

Petry handcuffed the Habs. He only wanted to be traded to an American team near Michigan. Only had about 4 choices...

Then take the fifth choice of telling him to f***ing deal with the contract he signed. We can mutually agree to terminate it if he's cool with losing millions.

Why did we essentially do him a favor and gift Pittsburgh Poehling for the privilege? I'm not even as high on Poehling as some around here but this is just a terrible trade for us.

I wouldn’t call him a puppet but I still believe Gorton has the final say. I view Hughes more like an assistant GM but with more responsibilities than an assistant GM.

Formally retiring is simply not an option because it leaves over 30 million dollars on the table.

If he can't play, he will have to be put on permanent LTIR, and let the contract run out.
Retiring or playing are the only options if he is not injured.

Yes it is.
nope

About half the teams in the league had 20 or less fight and 3 even had under 10 all of last season. It's a dying part of the game. If one of the big selling points of a player is that he drops the gloves, I rather someone else who can play the game better.
