This is a horrible… I understand that you needed to get rid Petry but you are taking on Matheson for 4years at almost 5m$ that deal didn’t even clear 2M$ of cap space + you are taking on 1 year + you gave Poehling and you are only getting 4th rd pick to do it…
Both Petry and Poehling were part of our future but you would have hope that we could have gotten better… This isn’t a deal that made any sense for MTL it only make sense for Petry… Mathewson isn’t nothing but this is clearly not going to be part of our core, a 4th isn’t helping either and we didn’t clear any cap space.
Other deals gonna be made soon to acquire more cap space. Don't worry.

I think Drouin and Byron will be off the book soon.

Matheson is a warm body to play on the Top-4 and mentor a younger D which we have a lot of of. He’s also a Montrealer.

I expect he will exceed expectations, he’s one of those under appreciated guys across the league because he’s really good but doesn’t stand out doing it.

He will be a staple in the top4 the next 2-3 years and then likely gets flipped to contender for a prospect ready to make the jump.

I don't hate that trade, we got rid of two players who didn't want to play here and relieved a bit of cap. Pens won the trade but not by that much.
no so sure...we will see in 5 years when Petry is retired and Matheson is still there.

You think all other NHL GM’s are required to speak French to be hired for the position? Molson named Gorton VP only because he would have faced some backlash from the media if he named an Anglo GM.

So Gorton is the GM and Hughes is the French speaking puppet?

Jesus Christ what is wrong with people here?

Man, I *just* returned to this Forum and already I'm getting chased out.

Byron and Price will not start the season and or will not finish it. Their careers will end in 2022 or 2023.

The Pens could care less about 5 years from now. They are trying to maximize the last few years of their ancient core.

Pens won this deal. But I think given the lack of cap space around the league and what recent trade's returns were it is what it is. Petry put us in a tough spot.

the main board thread about this trade is again unreadable, with the usual, know-it-all troll suspects puffing their chests about Petry's perceived value.

You can forget about option B. I forget how his contract is structured but I very much doubt Price will leave money on the table.
Not really. If Price collects his signing bonus next July he’s only leaving 17 million on the table and he is definitely the kind of player that can ‘just walk away’ if that’s what he decides to do,

That’s more or less the way I see it, sorry if you disagree.

Petry wanted to leave and it was public knowledge which probably made it tougher to trade him but I think that Hughes made a good trade here. We got a younger version of Petry and he seems to be highly regarded in the league, a former client of our gm and he's from Quebec, KH did the best he could in this situation. I was very hopeful for Poehling but it hasn't worked out. It would be nice to see Gallagher get reunited with his dad and best friend in LA as the next move.
