Not on that line but on a line that works, I could totally see Kakko going off in the playoffs.

He's Jesper Fast if Fast had incredible hands.
Unless he goes to the net and stops playing the perimeter he most likely won't be going off in the playoffs. I hope it's just a timing thing right now. We shall see over the next 8 games.

You had Lafreniere playing at a point per game pace with Kreider and Zib.

Vatrano seems like a natural fit opposite Panarin.

That third line is a mish mosh, but I guess Kakko would cover up a bit for Strome's mistakes?
Kakko and Strome were made for each other. Kakko does everything Strome doesn't. Strome is exactly the offensive hubris Kakko needs.

They were together without Panarin for a brief time during the espionage and were OUTSTANDING. With Panarin, the play just goes a bit above Kakko's speed, hence Vatrano with Panarin.

Lafreniere takes two shots a month. So does Kakko. Nothing is going to happen at the net with those two together. That's why it's so underwhelming.

I'm pissed no one smashed Brenden Smith to pieces. Or any of the other Canes.
He’s got it locked.

He sucked tonight, but no one is taking it away from him. His metrics blow everyone’s out of the water and a bunch of voters are hip to this.
final standings could also influence this. His SV% and GAA are huge but Anderson is so close that he could steal it if he ends the season with a significant lead in wins. I really don't know what stat is more important to whomever votes on these things.

Want no part of the Canes in any round. They absolutely locked us up the last 2 periods
I was kinda surprised we handled their trap like D, fairly well in the first period. But by the 3rd we couldn't get it out of our zone and it cost us.

Mixed emotions here on that game, big congrats to Kreider. My life for Kreider. So happy to see that man score 50. Awesome.

Vally said it best about this game between these 2 teams that it feels like a couple of heaveyweight boxers feeling each other out during a match and being cautious.

I saw enough in the first period of the game that when Carolina tied it, I knew we were toast.

We were better off getting more wide open and suffering the odd man chances against with Igor. Keeps him super dialed in, and he's only shown this since we've known him. He thrives in it. Sounds risky, but my money is placed on Igor.

We have that weapon. Use it. When you're down, don't continue to play like you have a middle tier goalie in net.

It loosens up the forwards. We have enough team speed to pressure if they transition off us.

This is all my opinion and I'm ok with disagreements.

There are a ton of analytic heads who vote.

Shesterkin is so far ahead of everyone. Andersen isn't winning. People need to chill.

I mean I guess you could try to do this but they got pretty aggressive later in the game and it didn't really result in a ton.

It's a game of mistakes and we made more of them.

1. Igor admiring his save led to the first goal against
2. A bad change led to the second
3. Rooney stupidly blocking a third and forever shot that turned into a broken play was the third (Igor should have probably had this one too, I don't remember if he ended up getting screened here.) f***ing hate Rooney in the lineup. He's terrible.

If Vatrano buries that one that goes off the pipe in the 2nd, we probably end up winning this game.

Look no further than our $9.5M defenseman as to why we lost. He's the reason IMO. No where near good enough. The biggest game of the season, and this is the performance? Absolute dog shit reads and lazy liability on defense

That pair will be our biggest weakness in the playoffs.

Really didn't see much from him tonight. I'll give him a pass though.

Tonight, Panarin was comin to play - wish more had that in them tonight.

If our line 3 in the playoffs can out shoot and out chance whoever they play, would we be happy? They did that today. Way better than everyone else. You wanna complain? We all loved Panarin cause he went between the legs a few times. He was statistically our worst guy on ice. Reeves was 2nd worst. Their lines were the bottom 2. Line 3 did what we will NEED them to do to beat Carolina. Possessed the puck.

That first goal, it's funny that moments after it happened I shared with my son the times I also got burned by that over the years lol. Shit like that happens. But I can't add that to a negative tally for Igor - something like that should not phase our squad considering what he's after doing for them.

I found that entire game we were tentative, save for Miller and some isolated shifts.

Cheers man!

ps: i do have a decent portion left of a second growler of a local ale establishment if you want a pour. :)

the worst part is that overrated, geezer, hack Andersen gained some separation between him and Igor.

All I saw tonight was Panarin on high octane and no one around him keeping up or getting into open spots. Copp did do a bit better than Strome. He made some passes that I thought for sure was going the other way but he landed them. But those options should have been his last options...

Again, I have no charts or graphs - just what I saw :)

I agree that Panarin didn't seem that bad based on the eye test cause there were the chances that Strome always misses. But the eye test didn't make the kids look bad either. They were in the ozone all day long. Against this ridiculous possession team. We should be impressed. Instead people are losing their minds.

With the exception of a couple of games, most notably the Devils game and the first St. Louis game I don't remember one goal swinging the momentum so hard. It's as if they put so much energy in the first half of the game that the second they faced some adversity they couldn't handle it.

I mentioned in his player thread that his reads aren't good right now. I don't think he lacks get up and go. He's not anticipating plays and knowing where the puck is going next at the moment.
Not once has he carried the puck through the neutral zone, made a play, hunt down the puck, or get in on the forecheck. And there is only one common factor amongst all these different scenarios. And that is foot speed.

At least before his injury, he had some quickness with his stick if an opponent was within his reach, he would be able to break up a play. But you don't even see that quick stick now either.

And with that, it would say more about the squad outside of Igor for a play like that, than on Igor himself.

The game was a snooze fest for me though.
