It would be if this was a one off. But its not. The shot total is irrelevant, once the isles got the lead they could care less if they got another shot, they just lulled us to sleep and by us, i mean the players and fans.

This is a completely different team than pre-deadline but continue with your inane logic.

Islanders played a tight road game that our guys STILL have no answer for.

It wasn't even a case of great goaltending. Varlomov didn't even need to play spectacular tonight. Rangers just can't generate shit against this team.

Our third pairing on D looked bad tonight. Shesterkin was rather pedestrian - not bad. Just okay.

Rangers didn't even get outmuscled except behind the net on dump ins. Rather, they just didn't work hard to get to to the slot when any forwards had the puck on the outside.

I think that this was, by far, Kreider's and Zibanejad's worst game of the season. Neither of them had that top gear speed that they usually play with.

They may have been tired - they had a good rally in the latter half of the first period where they looked like a great team. But the second period was a lot of start-and-stop type play where I think the team fell asleep. Then after that, they never woke back up and the Islanders are perfectly content thriving in that type of game.

Odd man rushes and a lack of prudence with the puck in the offensive zone did them in. If I'm not mistaken, all three goals were caused by turnovers.

I can look past it - the team has given us a lot to believe in over this season. But eventually, they need to figure out how to solve games like this. Because the Hurricanes are perfectly capable of shutting things down like this as well as the Islanders do.

Gallant should bag skate them tomorrow for this effort.

BTW, I know that it sounds like the offense was abysmal but I don't think the Rangers have allowed 25 or more shots in the last 5 games. 5 of the 6 since the deadline. The sky is not falling.
It isn’t. It’s just that the boring, no energy effort drove people to insanity. This doesn’t change anything in my eyes. You’re not going to win 10-11 in a row this time of year. Teams are tired. Carolina just got done playing a putrid stretch of hockey. It happens. On to Sunday.

Well we did just lay an egg to a non playoff rival team who played last night. If you can't see the flaws in our effort and approach there's nothing i can do for you, this teams defense never changed much at all at the deadline, its still a concern with Nemeth, Braun and Schneider all competing for who is the least bad on a given night.

I think Shesterkin needs to play more. These soft weeks for him aren’t helping
Totally agree. He needs to be in his rhythm and it's clear he plays better when he plays more, just like Hank used to be. I know the inclination from coaches is to rest the starter but he really needs to just play his normal workload straight through.

They had nothing tonight. I can't make excuses because the Piles played last night but the Rangers have played a lot of hockey. 5 games in 8 days and you could see it tonight.

What's so infuriating is we had two prime chances that we just completely whiffed on. Copp had a wide open net and completely missed and Chytil had a good amount of net to shoot at and hits the side of the net. I'm not saying those were the difference, but when you're given opportunities like that, you have to cash in and we didn't.
