That game was like a bad repeat of almost every game we played against them last year, but at least then they were considered an elite team. Totally unacceptable. Their style of play is kryptonite for us, and relies heavily on a lot of borderline junk, the interference, clutching and grabbing etc. The bottom line is that most of the rest of the league has no problem beating them, nor should we.

Expected goals were in our favor. It happens. We won't see them in the playoffs. Likely not for a LONG time. We can't win every game. We are playing well. It's literally meaningless. Move on.

When I was scrolling down I was expecting to see Strome’s face

Guys, GUYS, hear me out: This makes perfect sense. It was April fools. Seeing as the Isles literally played how we usually do, the only explanation was that they switched outfits before the game to mess with us all.

Heavier type clubs definitely have the best of us . Until our coaching staff has our bigger guys actually playing like bigger guys expect more of the same . Guys like Kreider -Zibs-Laf-Kakko-Copp-Goodrow-Hunt-Reaves -Nemeth-Trouba-Lindgren-Schneider-Miller all have to step up in these type of games and sacrifice the body and play a bit beyond their size . If everybody played like Lindgren ...above his size....this would not even be a discussion . Plus.....like I already said......Reaves has to get down and dirty in a game like this at this stage of the season. If not....it's a comedy watching him play a regular shift .

Really can’t believe people are still IMO overreacting to this game though given the opponent and how frustrating it was to watch, I do understand to a degree.

In the last two weeks this team has dismantled Tampa, Pitt x2, in “playoff style” games playing suffocating team defense. They have beaten Carolina. They curb stomped Detroit this week (but got poor goaltending). At 5v5 their play has trended markedly upwards, even last night. They allowed almost nothing, the Isles were extremely opportunistic.

The only thing I could see being concerned about is Shesty looking human and wondering if reduced volume coming his way will affect his play. I’m not concerned, but I could see that creeping in. But I would not take a single ounce of worry creep in about the NYR not being able to compete against “playoff teams” - the Isles aren’t even a playoff team!!

It sucks and it was shitty as hell to watch, I’m with you. They are gonna come out on Sunday and beat the piss out of Philly.

Offense=Garbage
Defense=Garbage
Special teams=Garbage.

Just a garbage game. And you know that's gonna happen a few times throughout the season, but you hate to have to watch it happen against the Gortons fishermen. Gives their loser fans a reason to smile. Makes me want to puke.

On to the next one.

The crapped the bed. Let’s see how they respond tomorrow and down the stretch. The ‘94 squad were bitch slapped around by a team that was 5 minutes old and owned by Mickey the Mouse. They seemed to do ok lol.

My thoughts exactly. If we scored first we win last night, we didn't and we got trotzed.

Shesty seems a bit off. Confidence is low and he’s been going down early. Cross ice passes he’s way behind because he goes down in the reverse butterfly thing and as Vally says it slows the push off for goalies. So far he hasn’t been burned, but there have been wide open nets. The save he made in the last minute against PITR was only because the Pitt shooter had to take it from backhand for forehand. Aside from that he’s been giving up goals that he stopped earlier in the year. Not bad goals, but not vezina caliber either. The paddle down goal by Martin I think is a good example. Why’s he paddle down? Because he’s lower confidence and trying to maximize percentages. Not a great position for a goalie from a high % scoring area from the low slot. Earlier in the season he’d be aggressive and up in his feet challenging. Other times he challenges too hard when there are good pass options, like on the first goal from the isles. Again, not bad goals like he who shall not be named, but not on his level either. His reading of the play and positional play have not been to his high level recently.

Let’s play him a bit more often please so he can find his rhythm before the playoffs….

I bailed after they scored the third goal -- and stayed away from the PGT last night. Knew they didn't have it last night to come back on a Trotz team that was hell bent on winning via defensive shell. That being said, I think this team continues to refuse to simplify and play crash the net when the other team plays a frustrating style.

While you guys were watching that display, I luckily missed the game catching up with a couple of old Russian hockey friends who are doing quite well for themselves and our host broke out four of these bad boys for us to enjoy before moving on to some vodka and whiskey.

Yeah… that’s a $70 pint of beer. Don’t think I’ll ever top that in my life. 15.4% ABV. Outrageous, if you enjoy boozy stouts.

Outside of 2-3 great games at the start and then 5 more games of "shiny new toy," Schneider hasn't been good at all.

I said that about Miller for a long time. I stand by that, but letting him work through it was the right call. The difference, now, is that we weren't competing when Miller came up.

But is Nemeth or Braun going to consistently be better? Unless we can definitely say yes, I’d just assume let Schneider get the experience. If they were genuinely upgrades, I’d be fine with letting them play, as Schneider has gotten a lot of experience for a young D already. But I feel they’re equal at best and definitely don’t feel confident either is better, in which case I just embrace the growing pains over the gaffs of the upside-less veteran.

BTW, people talking about how this is playoff hockey are off their rockers. While they're worse this year you could see how they played very differently in the playoffs than everyone else. They couldn't play like anyone else and make it past the first round they did not have the skill. And they still don't. They just happen to have our number.

How was it? I have one from 2018 sitting around, actually. I wonder if I shouldn’t have had it by now.

I love Schneider he’s going to be a regular next season but Justin Braun should not be sitting for a 20 year old kid. Braun is a very good player on a bad team. But should never be a healthy scratch

Weird game yesterday. Rangers were all over them and they get a bizarre broken play lucky goal. Then the rangers continue to outplay them, press even harder, and they get another broken play goal. At that point it was 2 goals on 7 shots I think. Isles definitely were good at limiting the highest of the high percentage chances but the rangers could have won in a rout too. I just kept saying, “April Fools” to myself watching that match.
