Pot meet kettle. Living in glass houses...blah blah blah...

I was "dunking" on a comment by one fan that the Habs dont need him, that they are actually better off not trading for him. As if they are so good (they are not - yet) that he would not help the team. That the Habs have actively TRIED to trade for him multiple times supports my viewpoint.

And "the few good pieces they have"? Montreal is loaded with prospects. You might be the only Habs fan that thinks they are not. We dont know what the ask nor offers have been. Only that Wpg and Montreal have discussed it.

I happen to think the Habs are going to be a lot better next season and adding Dubois would help elevate that.

Winnipeg doesn't want futures. They want NHL players. We don't have good NHL players outside of a handful, and, yeah, we're not trading them for PLD.

Our cap is still messed up from the Bergevin era too.

You sound bitter.

That's completely false. Danault was the drink that stirred that defensive line. Everyone knew it after the cup run. Danault stonewalled every C he matched up against during that playoffs until the finals. The problem was that Danault wanted out of Montreal. He took the same offer that the Habs gave to leave for LA. He knew Weber / Price were done and there was no future as a contender.

PLD is a completely different scenario. He wants to play in Montreal. That doesn't obligate the Habs to trade for him. Not when they have a rebuild plan. Not when it would take significant assets to get him, then you have to overpay him on his next deal for a 65pt 2C. You don't do that. If he's your own player or a UFA (where you don't have to give up assets), then it might be justified to satisfy a need.

If the Kings give up significant value (Valiardi / Byfield / Clarke) for PLD then pay him 8.5+ AAV, they will have gotten fleeced.

"Stonewalled" is far fetched. And Danault being good defensively did not contradict at all what I said in my post.

I actually agree with that.

But, you might be able to get that next year. I'm sure the organization is looking at this as a future replacement for Kopitar.

So you get that now, and build the D & goaltending next summer when cap goes up. I don't see this as a move to necessarily improve the team this year, but to set it up so that Kings don't have a massive fall-off when Kopitar is done.

There's enough youth there that you guys should be able to build around PLD, Kempe, Clarke, etc post Kopitar.

If you look at it from a 2-5 year competitive perspective this is a good move for L.A. Get Kopitar replacement this year, build up D & goaltending next summer or at next TD.

Montreal is at least 2-3 years away from moving from building to adding.

All valid points, but doesn't address one of the biggest [ or smallest] problems in LA, they don't have a 4th line worth a damn. The oilers series just amplified that even more.

Its easy to put together a 4th line. You can do that from waivers.

They are fine at center for the next 2-3 years. Kopi is still a lot better than pld.

They have more pressing needs, but good for Winnipeg if they can get vilardi out of it.

Dvorak is still available if it falls through here.

They're fine until they aren't fine, you'd think a fan of a team with a bunch of broken down old guys on the cap would understand.

4th line should be the easiest to fix. You don't not pick up PLD because your 4th line sucks.

IF i am putting on my Kings hat, i have to ask myself, does PLD fix what was missing in last year's playoff run? If the answer is yes, then make the trade. If the answer is no, then there's some confusion.

My biggest beef with LA is their goaltending and size. PLD does help with size but losing Valiardi offsets that. Can PLD play goal?

not in LA.
If you are stressing over a 4th line, then life is good.

But for real - the Kings need a bonafide goaltender in a bad way.

Harkins will help with that. I think that'll be a piece that the Jets regret adding.

HFB twisting the narrative per usual.

I don’t like the Habs at all but the real narrative with PLD is if he fell into their lap via free agency or cheap trade then they’ll take it.

If not, whatever.

I don’t think many were hedging their future on signing him.
