Again, PLD is not a #2 center and Kopitar is not a #1 center but both demand salary as if they were.
If the Kings are not finishing their rebuild, we will be back to square one very soon.

Byfield and Kupari have all the tools to be the #1 and #2 center, at some point we have to let them play some hockey, signing PLD is the opposite of what the Kings need.

Just to explain my position a little more, a #1 center needs to score the very least 80+ points
and a #2 center 70+ points if the target is to even remotely compete in the playoff.

We are facing opponent players who score 90+ points on a regular base, not to mention the Edmonton guys.
I’m going to need to see some data

Would be disappointed to see Villardi go. I haven’t seen as much potential out of a prospect since Kopitar. If he can stay healthy and find some more consistency, he has game breaking talent. Kings failure to draft and develop a center to replace Kopitar has led to having to pony up for a guy like PLD.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here, but this is good news for Leafs fans hoping to extend Matthews, is it not? With Dubois, Danault and Kopitar down the middle, the Kings would be unlikely to pursue Matthews this offseason or next, unless of course Danault is part of the trade, or Kopitar, or the Kings let Kopitar walk next summer to make roster room for Matthews, despite Kopitar probably wanting to retire a King.

I know there are other teams that could be interested in Matthews... Anaheim, Arizona mayyyyybe, or other teams that hockey nerds online aren't speculating about, but the LA Kings were probably the most speculated about destination for Matthews.

Good Lord. As if this deal has any impact to the Toronto Maple Leafs. That’s more for your team forums.

Vegas will make it work. Matthews can go on LTIR with a paper cut and only have to show up for playoffs at 13 mil a season.

Yes maybe but doesnt Kopitar contract end next summer same has Matthews ?

Matthews-Dubois and Danault could be a great center line if he doesnt re-sign with the leafs

"haha Habs fans you should have traded Dach for pld so we could mock you for that trade"

And then there's the best discourse that goes:

*non-habs fan makes an unreasonable claim about what Montreal wants in a trade as a joke

*other non-habs fans take it seriously as a serious offer

*everyone goes back and forth about how unreasonable Montreal fans are being despite not being involved at all

I can almost guarantee everyone shitting on WPG has never lived there or stayed there for a full year.

As someone who grew up in Manitoba, its a super outdoorsy city. Tons of hunting, world class fishing, camping, hikes, and lakes for marine activities. The city's winters are overblown because its almost Winnipeg's calling card at this point as no one actually knows/has experienced anything there and just parrot what they've heard from randos online. With global warming, the only major cities that doesn't get as cold as Winnipeg in the winter are Vancouver and the Maritime capitals due to coastal. Its the same cold/snow in WPG, Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, etc... They have the extreme heat in the summer (+40C) to the extreme cold (-35C). Neither is consistent and always happens a few times a season, just like the other major cities in those seasons. The city itself has a ton of random and super interactive festivals throughout the year that feed into the seasons. Super multicultural so theres a thousand restaurants that are all very well priced and amazing food from different origins. And because the cost of living is so low, most people who make a good amount of money and live there live like kings and can afford to travel all the time.

It's not nearly as bad as 99% of the people bashing it make it sound, probably based off of the one time the SJ Sharks player complained about wifi or some shit when they were in town or it being dark.

Educate yourselves vs running around like a bunch of meercats following each other whenever someone ahead of you says something "funny".
To be fair, most Americans couldn’t live in Ottawa, Calgary or Edmonton either. My ex-wife was from Southern California and although she told everyone she loved Ottawa, she hated it with a passion. The cold….. They really just can’t handle it. Hated Calgary too. Same reason. It really wasn’t anything to do with Canadian culture, etc…. Just the never ending cold in the winter.. Couple that with Winnipeg being very small, with nothing remotely close in any direction, they’d go insane. It makes even day trips to a bigger city, or to see family, almost impossible.

I enjoy Winnipeg, and many players do like playing there. Especially in a true hockey sense. They’re treated as well as anywhere and it’s not overbearing. If they’re from large metro areas though, they tend to rather live in more of a metro area. Even if that’s Columbus. Things like having 2 days off and taking your GF/Wife to Chicago, or even day trips to Cincinnati are easy. Not so much from Winnipeg. I had a tough time in Peterborough originally and that’s close enough to Toronto if need be. Since those days though, I much more prefer the smaller town thing. I know other guys who couldn’t wait to be in a metro area though.

Those are the little things that cause players to rather play somewhere else. It’s nothing against Winnipeg and the people. Fans from other places though, from pure ignorance, just assume it’s some hell hole because players would rather play somewhere else. Far from the reality.

Kopitar is resigning, he’s likely to get a 2-3 year deal at around half his current salary.. maybe less if he thinks the Kings can win..

I mean, the guys had over $120 million in career earnings

I think dillon at 50% would get something good at the deadline
Maybe even a 1st - more likely van get the two 2nds we paid for him back

If he is in this deal there would be a decent prospect coming back

Jets need more D with size not less.

Kings need a player like Brendan Dillon bad too. But they might be stuck with Logan Stanley instead

Considering the rumors stats the Jets wants wingers…

Vilardi
Iafallo
Lizotte
Fagemo
I thought they needed centers? They look like they'll have only Lowry and Perfetti down the middle real soon.

Idk about moving Fagemo, he's exactly the type of cheap winger the Kings need for the cap crunch this season
