LA having a rather interesting off season, they clearly want to battle with Vegas for top seed in the division

Pot meet kettle. Living in glass houses...blah blah blah...

I was "dunking" on a comment by one fan that the Habs dont need him, that they are actually better off not trading for him. As if they are so good (they are not - yet) that he would not help the team. That the Habs have actively TRIED to trade for him multiple times supports my viewpoint.

And "the few good pieces they have"? Montreal is loaded with prospects. You might be the only Habs fan that thinks they are not. We dont know what the ask nor offers have been. Only that Wpg and Montreal have discussed it.

I happen to think the Habs are going to be a lot better next season and adding Dubois would help elevate that.
No.

The comment stated something to the effect of ‘Montreal would be the real winner in this trade

Most could very easily deduce that giving up assets and overpaying contractually for a guy that’s not going to fit into your timeline isnt great for the organization.

Loving Vilardi in the trade, if it happens, he's great and will break out no doubt on the Jets with tons of opportunities. This is the type of proven young player the Jets were/are looking for in a PLD trade. Love it

Which is exactly why a lot of Kings fans are very hesitant here.

HFB twisting the narrative per usual.

I don’t like the Habs at all but the real narrative with PLD is if he fell into their lap via free agency or cheap trade then they’ll take it.

If not, whatever.

I don’t think many were hedging their future on signing him.

That was half the narrative. The other half was the narrative was that Dubois was guaranteed to be a Hab so it was either get him for cheap trade or sign as UFA.

Thank you for the generic reply, now go find one of my post where I get triggered like you do, going to be a while is my guess.

Its simple really habs are 2 years in a rebuild, why the F would they trade the few good pieces they have for Dubois?

Again it’s all banter, and it seems like you got triggered.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here, but this is good news for Leafs fans hoping to extend Matthews, is it not? With Dubois, Danault and Kopitar down the middle, the Kings would be unlikely to pursue Matthews this offseason or next, unless of course Danault is part of the trade, or Kopitar, or the Kings let Kopitar walk next summer to make roster room for Matthews, despite Kopitar probably wanting to retire a King.

I know there are other teams that could be interested in Matthews... Anaheim, Arizona mayyyyybe, or other teams that hockey nerds online aren't speculating about, but the LA Kings were probably the most speculated about destination for Matthews.

But when you blow your entire cap on one guy, that leaves very few dollars for anyone over 6-0' or can actually do something other than get crushed by the likes of RHN in the playoffs.

True. Your cap will be really tight this year. Assuming PLD signs for $8.5m, that only leaves about $4.5m to get a goalie and pay 3 more D nevermind improve the bottom of the line-up.

I guess we'll see what happens. Maybe move Arvidsson elsewhere? He only has a year left.

Hmmmm!

Now, I wonder what LA’s equivalent to Kidney would be? And Montreal’s 2nd (that LA now owns) is only a few picks off Florida’s first…
2nd is in 2024 where Arizona had a bunch of 2nds.. it’s likely in the 33-42 range.
Which is exactly why a lot of Kings fans are very hesitant here.
Curious….is Villardi a winger only or can he play center at all?

As a fan of the Leafs and Kings, I'd be thrilled if the Ducks were the team to go out and overpay Matthews

If its Valiardi and Iafallo, the Kings will have to shed cap elsewhere to round out the roster and get a goaltender. What's next?

Huberdeau and Johansen are 30. Dubois just turned 25 a couple days ago. Not even remotely comparable contracts/situations.
Johansen is 30 years old and signed his 8 year deal when he was 24 years old. 6 years later traded at loss as cap dump with 2 years remaining on his contract.

Habs are NOT contending, not even playoff bubble within the next 2 or 3 years. The time PLD become relevant to the habs potential contending time he would be 27 or 28 years. It's not a good match for a rebuilding team. A more advanced team in their rebuild like the Sabres or the Senators, absolutely but clearly not for the Habs.
In 2 years or 3 years, Montreal can start shopping for disgruntled players or top free agents.
