My point is Montreal is a bad team. Balking at trading for a very good player because you have a guy that may be as good in the future seems like a way to continue to be bad. And make no mistake, PLD would make your team better and be one of your best players.

Reported trade is not paying significant assets.

Might be the report of $9 million was only a hometown tax.
We can all easily spot the used car sales tactics and they don't work.

We're about as interested in paying a fair price for pld as we are in acquiring Lindholm from Calgary.

I could see if it was a top 20 center in the league being made available, but it's not.

You add a player like pld to your team with caution, not by overpayment. Like the Oilers and kane

Hmmmm!

Now, I wonder what LA’s equivalent to Kidney would be? And Montreal’s 2nd (that LA now owns) is only a few picks off Florida’s first…
Montreal's 2nd next year (2024) should be worse than 37 i hope. Will see.

This acquisition feels a for similar to when Toronto added Tavares.
I mean you have to get a guy like that when he's available, but you don't really need him

The Leafs had Matthews and Kadri. The Kings have 36 year old Kopitar and Danault. Maybe Vilardi or Byfield become that top 6 C, neither is right now, and even with PLD and Danault, if Byfield becomes a top 6 C they have great depth.

Also, I don't think PLD is signing for 11.5 million dollars .

NO! The team needs a starting goalie, bigger defense, and an entire 4th line that is over 5-10" .

I actually agree with that.

But, you might be able to get that next year. I'm sure the organization is looking at this as a future replacement for Kopitar.

So you get that now, and build the D & goaltending next summer when cap goes up. I don't see this as a move to necessarily improve the team this year, but to set it up so that Kings don't have a massive fall-off when Kopitar is done.

There's enough youth there that you guys should be able to build around PLD, Kempe, Clarke, etc post Kopitar.

If you look at it from a 2-5 year competitive perspective this is a good move for L.A. Get Kopitar replacement this year, build up D & goaltending next summer or at next TD.

Montreal is at least 2-3 years away from moving from building to adding.

I’d be happy if I’m Winnipeg. If they wanted futures , there’s no doubt the Habs would have what they wanted, but that’s clearly not the direction they want to go. With the other assets they have, they could really kick a retool off in the right direction.

Mtl is so bad that there rebuilding, so why the F would they trade the few good pieces they have right now for PLD?

I get that you felt the need to dunk on the habs but maybe think before you make yourself look like a clown.

Seriously you lot all day drinking?
Pot meet kettle. Living in glass houses...blah blah blah...

I was "dunking" on a comment by one fan that the Habs dont need him, that they are actually better off not trading for him. As if they are so good (they are not - yet) that he would not help the team. That the Habs have actively TRIED to trade for him multiple times supports my viewpoint.

And "the few good pieces they have"? Montreal is loaded with prospects. You might be the only Habs fan that thinks they are not. We dont know what the ask nor offers have been. Only that Wpg and Montreal have discussed it.

I happen to think the Habs are going to be a lot better next season and adding Dubois would help elevate that.

would you guys even have the cap space for that? I think stanley could be a realistic throw in

For them to get Dillon, we also have to take Arvidsson - then they have to add more value both to pay for Dillon and to compensate for the cap assistance.

Otherwise, yeah I could see Stanley added but the packages keep getting bigger. Add another piece on one side requires another on the other. Funny how fan trades do that.

Seravalli has been all over it, and Friedman was the first one to break the news linking Dubois to LA.
wasn't arpon basu the one who mentioned la first, pretty sure friedman said that winnipeg was going to have to convince teams that it was more then just mtl the day after arpon said there was 5-6 teams he would sign with

They are fine at center for the next 2-3 years. Kopi is still a lot better than pld.

They have more pressing needs, but good for Winnipeg if they can get vilardi out of it.

Dvorak is still available if it falls through here.

Yeah, I think Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg have to have competitive teams to keep and attract talent. Once they start to slide then the city isn't going to hold most young millionaires
Agreed. Probably add Ottawa and Buffalo to that list.
