Wow. Crazy good deal for the Jets if true. Sucks for Montreal who wanted him for free. I was hoping he goes out east.

Thanks. Still not sure what Winnipeg's plans at center would be if this deal comes together as reported:

LW
C
RW
Connor
???
Ehlers
Perfetti
???
Niederreiter
Iafollo
Lowry
Vilardi
Barron
Gustafsson
Appleton

Exactly.
They might take a look at Perfetti at C. Maybe.
They might try Vilardi at C again, just due to lack of better options.

Yes 'cause Montreal is sooooooooooooo good they would be stupid to trade for a signed #2 C.
Mtl is so bad that there rebuilding, so why the F would they trade the few good pieces they have right now for PLD?

I get that you felt the need to dunk on the habs but maybe think before you make yourself look like a clown.

Seriously you lot all day drinking?

This is totally overstated. True North has done a good job of redeveloping immediately around the arena. Further, they're investing hugely south of Portage Place which could completely makeover that part of downtown.

Now are there parts of Wpg downtown that have seen better days and are downright scary? Yup. And I fear that the city's plans will just concentrate our homeless further North around Main.

But if you're going to compare Ottawa (whose current situation is terrible and will need more than just an arena and some highrises to make Lebretton dynamic) than compare apples to apples.
I just visited Winnipeg for a concert. Was there for 3 days and walked all over the downtown core with my wife from breakfast to midnight. I never “unsafe”, at least any more than waking around downtown Toronto, London or FtLauderdale for that matter. Mitch Marner got car jacked in his home town and people shit on Winnipeg.
I loved every day I was there. Are there problems? Yes, every city has them, but Winnipeg definitely gets a bad rap that is uncalled for.

They would be stupid when they have a burgeoning 2C in Dach that is on a team friendly contract. Trading significant assets and then overpaying (reportedly 9M AAV longterm) for PLD is the highest level of stupidity.

Yup only makes sense if Montreal gets him for free like the fans said they would. But trading assets at their stage of the rebuild makes no sense. Just be patient for the next 3-4 years.

We see that happen every year, fans want to win/max and hope for the best & cheapest outcome and rarely does it ever happen. PLD is a good 2C and will sign I'm guessing about 8.25 x 8 which is basically the same deal as Suzuki got taken into consideration the extra UFA year. Both guys have virtually the same stats as each other, one played with better players and the other one was given more TOI/opportunities bc lack of depth on the team, they have basically the same value overall.

There's a huge mistake/ misunderstanding about why so many players have wanted out of Winnipeg. Everyone here is assuming it's the City of Winnipeg and in particular the weather. Is SOME cases that's true. So here's a bit of a list and my closest guess on their major reasons for wanting out :
Dubois : likely the City
Sheifele: the team , management , other player......
Helly : He wants to have a legit shot at winning the Cup NOW ( loves the outdoor aspect of the area)
Laine: issues with team leadership and playing time
Roslovic : ice time
Buff : Quit Hockey, walked away from millions to do what he loves ,fishing. ( loved the outdoors and the city )
Kane : the City and the team
Trouba:wanted to play in New York to be with his girlfriend. Not LA, not Florida, not Toronto. Just New York

I was fully expecting the Avs to trade for PLD. Was surprised at the direction they took with RyJo. Gonna be an interesting season!

Love CMac's gambling ways! He's got some Bergevin in him lol

Is this in defensive of Winnipeg the city? If so, it needs some work...

maybe wait until the actual trade is announced before you say we should add to get a better return...

I don't know what the trade package will be - but we would need an add to GV + AI. Even more so if we take back any more cap.

Wtf I live in Montreal and it's completely false, it never gets as cold as in Winnipeg lol.

-20 is considered VERY cold here and it happens maybe 2-3 times per winter max. I know because I run in the winter and I don't go out running under -20. It rarely happens.
false not sure why you're lying about the weather kind of cringe tbh

This is why I think it is so funny when fans are like just wait. He'll sign that one year deal with whatever team and then force their way to their hometown team. Blues fans were just as cocky with Tkachuk. They will not have a single team that they will sign with. Zero leverage

Sheesh, what’s the hold up the trade announcement?

I wonder if Montreal is making a final pitch and finally including Dach…
No.
Wow, Habs fans are coping hard. This is a ridiculous take. Dach might be a 3C on a decent team or the 3rd best player on the 2nd line wing. When he’s healthy.
Dach would have been - and by far - the most valuable piece Winnipeg could hope to get in a trade for PLD. Fortunately for us, he was never put on the table
