So habs should trade the few pieces they got in the past 2 years of the rebuilding for a 2c?

:popcorn::popcorn:
The habs should be doing whatever it takes to get good players into the organization. If 6 years isn't enough to do that then the rebuild failed

Well beats the late 1st and a B prospect that was regurgitated over and over since that’s what Horvat got (insert eye roll)

Habs are in year 2 of rebuild. They are doing a great job amassing good young prospects and young players and will draft a bluechip this year. Good trade last year to get Dach for the 2C. Next steps are to develop these players to reach their potential as NHLers. PLD doesn't factor in this process.

In 2 or 3 years, yes. Now it is ridiculously dumb.

In 2026, habs can trade or sign for top talent to contend.

If PLD was available for no asset, sure take your chance, but trading young asset is just not effective.

How long does it take to negotiate an extension? I would have thought they would have this determined. Come on Kings, get this done!

Maybe. Maybe not. This years draft somewhat resembles 2013 at the top end. If you got MacKinnon or Barkov that year you'd be laughing. If you end up Seth Jones or Elias Lindholm you may not be as happy but at least you got a useful player. If you end up with Jonathan Drouin...

That remains to be seen, but Dach only put up 1.35 points per 60 in 5v5 play last year. That's on par with a good 4th line player and below what cap dumps like Dvorac, Drouin and Hoffman managed to do.

It might be that the Jets didn't actually let the Kings discuss specifics with Dubois until they had agreed to a trade.

They may have given them rough estimates but if they're just talking for the first time now it might take a while.

and signing 65 point players for $9Mx8 could only hurt the rebuild.....

You spend that kind of money on ELITE talent. PLD has not proven to be elite at all.

The Habs won't be in a position to make the playoffs in 2026 if they don't start aquiring good players now. "We don't want anyone good until 2026!" is a surefire way of saying you have no chance at making the playoffs this decade.

You can stat watch all day but it doesn't change the fact that Dach showed significant progression offensively this season and finished the year as the 2C with crap wingers, yet still drove play.

But if you want to stat watch: Dach is going into his D + 5 season. PLD in his D + 5 season put up 21 points in 46 games. Barely a 3C.

Habs are happy with Dach at 2C and will give him the opportunity to build on last season. They traded significant assets to get him and he has rewarded the Habs with his progress. No reason to turn away from Dach and give up significant assets and then overpay for a 2C in PLD.

The only way you build a competitor is to develop from the draft and the Habs are doing that. The time to swing on trades like PLD is in year 4 or 5 when the holes in the lineup are more apparent.

Signing PLD to a 9M longterm deal had disaster written all over it. You just don't do that when you are rebuilding and have assets in-house that are well on their way to becoming a 2C or better.

As a Jets fan you will learn the intricacies of a rebuild after this coming season.

If, if, if.... only if. This team at the current moment is NOT contending with Dubois on the team, not even close. If the Habs miss on 5th overall + 1st overall last year, then Dubois or not, they would be still terrible. The habs need to stay course, if they start trading away good rebuilding pieces they only set back the rebuild.

Dach is younger than Dubois and he has shown very good progress.

Actually good point on Drouin. That's a very good example on how trading good significant asset for young french player is NOT the way to go. I would rather have Sergachev (who was still unproven) now than air.

Imagine the ridicule if the Habs traded Dach to Winnipeg and he out-produced PLD. Good chance that happens with the wingers the Jets can give Dach. No need to take any risks with this rebuild. Stay the course. Hughes is doing a fine job not caving to the drama of PLD.

I think Jets fans are disappointed in not getting a big C like Dach with high 2C potential. Vilardi will be a very good winger for the Jets. They should be happy in that return.

Suzuki and PLD as the Habs’ 1,2 centres is pretty darned good. Both young, big, skilled, smart, and hard to play against. Two guys a club can build a winner around. The Kings will have PLD but when Kopitar goes who else plays centre? Byfield is a question mark just like Dach.
