That's what I don't get. Obviously LA and WPG have been talking for a while. Why wouldn't WPG have wanted Durzi in the package? If they did I'm sure it could've worked out nicely in exchange for Dillion at 50%
If I remember correctly there was some speculation the Jets made some promises to Heinola about having a real shot to make the team this year, Durzi would play the same role and just block him again.

I could be misremembering something that was never speculated, can't recall where I read that from

They have this Brandon Clarkson(sp?) guy I've heard about who might be looking at a spot.

I think I've heard of him. He was not in that excess RHD category.

LAK real need is in goal. We should be talking about PLD + Hellebuyck for Vilardi + Clarke(son?) + enough cap dumps to make it work for them.

Maybe the Jets preferred the 2nd round pick Durzi was traded for. Jets currently do not have a 2nd round pick in the upcoming draft. I can see them wanting to recoup that.

Thanks. I forgot about him. He’s a heck of a good player and on a good cap hit. PLD on the kings is going to make for a very good group. I still think he’d be great in Montreal though with Suzuki as their 1-2 punch down the middle.
Can you give us more then 2 years of getting assets before we start trading them? Yes PLD would be good on the Habs but again we aren't in the position to give the assets the Jets would want AND pay him 9m+ on a long term deal.

Again this is year 2 of the Habs rebuild and MB left the Habs with some pretty f***ing awful contracts. People tend to forget we have a lot of dead weight on contracts on our books. Gallagher, Price, Hoffman to name a few.

Just goes to show media people always lazily assume that the Habs want to get all the French-Quebecois players to play for the Habs. Every late 1st Q player is projected to be chosen by the Habs. Every big name French-Quebecois UFA/RFA is rumored to be a Habs target.

Reality always has been always will be Habs fans appreciate good players. Fans loved Kovalev. They loved Markov. They loved Subban, Price and Weber. They love Caufield and Suzuki. If you are a great hockey player and you play for the Habs - the fans will adore you - wherever you're from.

Montreal dodges a bullet.

8-9 millions for a 2nd line C, and it will cost you Vilardi +++ to get the privilege.

Ouch. Winnipeg is doing really well in a tough situation.
Yeah, too rich for me. I’d like to have PLD but only on the cheap….I’d rather gamble that Dach is going to blossom into more than we’ve seen.

Oof that's a tough go for the Jets. I would much rather have Durzi of the two. Just as good offensively but way more physical. Both seem lost defensively

Him traded to LA for a premium price and refusing to sign long term would create havoc in here. Of course probably are close to none that LA pays a premium for an unsigned Dubois

Isn't the entire point of a rebuild to get lucky enough to draft a player like Dubois? Obviously if the Jets were asking for Suzuki, Caufield, the 5th overall pick or Slafkovsky that would make no sense for the Habs. But a late 1st rounder and Dach, who sucked until last year? You absolutely exchange those pieces for Dubois, lock him up through his prime and keep building. Habs wouldn't have become a contender or even playoff team overnight but they would be a lot closer.

They would still be missing the most important piece though - a goalie.

Definitely seems like Los Angeles is the sort of place Dubois could actually consider staying in long-term. Obviously the Montreal factor is big...but he seems like the type of player who really wants to be able to live big in a big city. Los Angeles, New York, Chicago...Montreal are probably the places that satisfy that. If the Kings can make the money work...it makes a lot of sense. They've also got exactly the sort of assets that could make it an attractive deal for Winnipeg. Lots of young NHLers that are more appealing than pure futures picks that are years from making any kind of impact.

Has there been any chatter about what Vilardi would be looking for on his new contract?

Maybe the Jets can take advantage of his low career earnings and get him locked in long term at something like 5.5x6 - I'd imagine it would be hard to turn down that generational wealth considering his injury history

Lets him cash in once more right before he's 30

Giving term to Vilardi would be extremely risky.

IMO, Perfetti will be a future top-6 C. Jets also have McGroarty, Lucius, Lambert, Wagner etc. for the future.

You forgot Zhilkin.
But I'm not convinced that any of them, including Perfetti, make it as top 6 Cs in the NHL. I hope they do but I will have to see it before I'm convinced.

LA has mid level young players that will keep Winnipeg fro tanking but not good enough to make the Jets a contender.
