The Kings got rid of Durzi and Walker at RHD to clear a path for Spence. They ain’t throwing him into this deal. Wishful thinking.

Vilardi would be a nice asset back as a centerpiece. He’s not PLD but he’s good and I’d argue with Vilardi+Iafallo the Jets won’t be losing all that much in the short term.

Trouble is that losing 'not much' is the worst possible outcome. Jets were not good enough with Dubois. If they lose even a little, they are that much more not good enough. If they can't get better they need to go for futures that will have them getting better eventually.

Losing "not all that much" just means drafting 16th instead of 18th.

I 100% agree with you. Jets will be mired in no-man's land, trying to field a team that is competitive enough to bring fans to the arena but not competitive enough to make any serious playoff or cup run. Its an attitude where you are just happy to have an NHL team but have not intention on winning a cup.

The Jets have been fortunate to be very good at drafting over the years. That has certainly kept them in the running.

He definitely was a luxury at this point. Would have been cool to get to see him in a Habs jersey though.

Agree. Would be great to see it at some point. Homegrown talent capable of a big impact -- who seems to have the swagger and self-confidence to not be Richer'd out of town. When he's on his game he can absolutely dominate.

The Habs won't be in a position to make the playoffs in 2026 if they don't start aquiring good players now. "We don't want anyone good until 2026!" is a surefire way of saying you have no chance at making the playoffs this decade.
Yes. Let's start adding more players to become a perpetual bubble team. Good tactics.

Suzuki and PLD as the Habs’ 1,2 centres is pretty darned good. Both young, big, skilled, smart, and hard to play against. Two guys a club can build a winner around. The Kings will have PLD but when Kopitar goes who else plays centre? Byfield is a question mark just like Dach.
There light years away compared to your team in being able to trade futures or ready nhl players with value.

PLD would be awesome on the habs but they do not have the parts to get him in a trade.

Well, chances are you aren't getting a C at 5.

So that means either a C you draft at 31 OR someone you draft next year will be making a difference as either a 20 or 21 year old player in the league.

Can you point a few of those guys out? Guys who were drafted in 2020 at 31 or higher OR a high pick in 2021 that are carrying the mail at 2C for a contending team?

If not, it's because your statement that someone who is drafted this year will be a difference maker in 3 years is actually the ridiculous take

Why wouldn't they get a C at #5?
This draft class is loaded with C's.

I question how awesome he would be without any ready-top-6 wingers to help drive play. Wingerslike Armia / Hoffman / Monahan / Dadonov and an injured Gallagher would have killed PLD's offensive production last season. How productive would he be with young prospect players (Roy, Slaf, Ferell etc.) learning to play in the NHL.

Peggers just don't understand how good Dach was playing with mediocre talent. Habs need the young prospects / players to develop into bonafide top-6 talent. Hopefully Slaf will take the next steps and provide Dach with a winger this season and hopefully Gallagher/Monahan are healthy.

Can't wait to read in 2 years that PLD wants to be traded to MTL, again.
Then you'll need to trade for 6 years of him, no more "hey we're going to low ball you because we'll get him for free anyways" bullshit.

I wouldn’t discount Scheifele resigning with the Jets.

Gawd, I hope not!
Too much money, too much term and can't help Jets compete when we lack a 2C and a goalie. By the time we fill those holes he will be an over the hill player with a boat anchor contract.

Which argument is better :
A) We can wait and sign him in free agency
B) Your dude doesn't want to play for you anymore and since you have a NMC on his contract, we're the only team you can trade him to.

Thanks. I forgot about him. He’s a heck of a good player and on a good cap hit. PLD on the kings is going to make for a very good group. I still think he’d be great in Montreal though with Suzuki as their 1-2 punch down the middle.

Who would PLD have as his wingers in this 1-2 punch with Suzuki?

... Our former GM preferred to sign Brandon Gallagher to a 6.5 M X 6 year deal.

Habs shitty offers were based on the premise he wants to sign in Montreal and we could get him for free. Not competing this year so don’t really need him. If we are just a stalking horse from his agent to get a better deal for his client we are more than use to that. Rumored return is great for the Jets. Wouldn’t have paid him more than Suzuki so will see what he signs for.
