other teams in our division got better while we made lateral moves at best so the worry is there. but i think we'll make it.
The teams that got better are Ottawa, Detroit and maybe Buffalo.

We made lateral moves.

Didn't Tampa, Florida and possibly Boston get worse so far?

There is nothing wrong with approaching things this way. There is Muzzin, Brodie, and Murray coming off the books at the same time those 4 need raises.

And there is only $31.5 million on the books then. JT and Marner in their final seasons, Jarnkrok, and Rielly.

They are set up for this very well IMO. The Leafs certainly can't afford any more mistakes like the Zaitsev type deals.
The zaitsev contract has been off the team for 3 years now

The results haven't changed for the team.

Well need a 1G again if Murray doesn't pan out. So not all that capspace coming off the books will be easy to operate and extend our 2 big UFAs. Muzzin and Brodie need replacements

Niemela might become one of them hopefully.

A lot of things to monitor the next two years for Dubas and management. We absolutely need some progression in the playoffs but should also look at beginning deciding how we want to approach the 2 big UFA contracts.

Don't like the dollars or the term. Definitely not the combination of both.

Another player walked right to UFA while still paying top price.

115pts with the 22nd ranked goaltending this season.
I learned a long time that regular season point totals mean very little.

Caps had 121 points that one season and got Halakd. I’m sure their goaltending was right around 17-20 as well.

Leafs can go all the way but I don’t see Keefe as the guy taking them there. Reminds me of Boudreau and how the Caps needed a different voice in Trotz to get them there.

Its a weird deal to me. If its a "show me" then he's going to be a UFA and he is showing everyone. If they really like him as a player they needed at least a second year as he is effectively a rental. I would do this if I was thinking about trading him and didn't want to risk getting boned out of my asset by arbitration.

Kyle Dubas you man of mystery. What are you up to? What is the end game here?

Elitists,

Talk amongst yourselves while us pedestrians wait with bated breath.

Don’t mind the player, but he isn’t worth that number on a one year. Still a lot to prove, particularly when the games get tighter and meaningful.

It feels like we'll lose Engvall to FA next year. Everyone likes to pick up the Leafs scraps.

He will end up in EDM or VAN you can book it. And they will overpay big for him

I see, how long he does he have to accept/reject it?

So when teams send the qualifying offer it just ensures they retain his rights. The player doesn’t have to accept the qualifying offer.

Some players do in fact accept their qualifying offer, but a lot don’t. I don’t expect Sandin to accept the qualifying offer at any point as it’s only a 10% raise.

Now that a qualifying offer has been tendered, Sandin and the Leafs have until January 1st I think or sometime in December to negotiate a new contract.

Sandin also doesn’t have arbitration rights so he doesn’t have a whole lot of leverage.

Marner and Nylander went through similar negotiations.
