He made a great pass, glad to see it! He was the cause of the first goal against, and glad he made up for it...still not playing great, but take last night's game as a good sign. He now has Gally and Toffolli to try to help to get him going. Guess it was all Tatar's fault that 5Mil/Phil hasn't scored in almost 40 games.

[MOD]

Phil doesn't need to score to be useful. However, he hasn't lived up to the other stuff so far this season -- not on a consistent basis, anyhow -- to temper things.

However, if you're part of the team, your team mates help you get out of a funk. Since he's played a consistent game over the last two years, fans should cheer for him to get out of his current funk.

Anything else is crap.

I say trade him for a 1st at the deadline, turn around and get someone like Hertl for 2 1sts

If you say we get a 1st round pick and trading ours and the one we get for Danault get us Hertl, I'm all for it but, really?

A 1 year contract would make the most sense for both parties.

Danault is having an awful season and he won't be able to get that big contract he wanted. Its better for him to have a rebound year next season and then sign a big contract.

From the habs pov, it wouldnt be wise to give Danault a big contract with what he's shown this year. Signing danault to a 1 year contract will give Evans and Poehling one more year to develop. We could trade Danault at next years tdl or let him go at next years free agency, and have Evans/Poehling replace him as the 3rd line center.

I was talking about giving time to KK and Suzuki

[MOD]
If you think that KK and Suzuki will not have enough ice time in the stretch of many games they are going in, you must live on another planet. They will have plenty of ice time in the next days and month, don't worry about that. And Phil will have a lot of ice time too, that's reality.

Believe it or not, it might be too late. We've probably passed the one-year anniversary of Danault's last regular season goal.
He's becoming the new Gomez. For a while my annual earth 4 seasons long word reference was 'Gomez goal'. That replaced the word 'year' for a while, well, for me. And he was paid 8,5 M$. But in life Gomy was a good guy. I never hated the person Gomez, he's classy.

A lot of times when players can't buy/score a goal they are getting or generating chances. With PD, that's not the case. He gets a good chance every once in a while but really not a whole lot. You'd think he'd be a little hungrier to get the monkey off his back.

At this point, instead of putting our better offensive players with him to get him "going offensively", he should be put with more defensive players instead of dragging down our offensive guys.

Drouin - Suzuki - Anderson
Toffoli - Kotkaniemi - Gallagher
Tatar - Evans - Armia
Lehkonen - Danault - Byron

He's most effective when he plays a north/south game, put him on a checking line that can still contribute offensively but they do so by playing a simple game as opposed to Danault thinking he is a skilled player.

Danualt will be too old to sign a big contract in your scenario. He will be 31.

Danault has played himself into a 2-3 year contract for a lot less money then was on the table last year.

Exactly! This teams obsession with prioritizing their no-offense center's offense is baffling. Danault may not have been happy in the bubble being taken off his line, but he looked infinitely better with the grinders, because he plays a super simple game too, that's his strength. Use your top-6 players to do top-6 player things and have a really annoying as hell bottom-6 that can still score and defend well.

I ve heard Eric Belanger, former nhl player, at « on jase », that you may think its easier for KK to play against the 3rd line and to have a limited icetime. But its not. Its easier to produce against first line, cause most of t the time. Guys like matthews, ovy arent the best backcheker. So the play on offensive zone become open quicker. When you play against 3rd line. Most of the time, their principal role of their line is to defend. Their bread and butter is to kill a play. So saying its easier for KK to produce on a 3rd line against 3rd line is not true at all. Danault is lucky to have all that ice time. And he is just not the guy improve the team. He needs to be on a 3rd line. Thats it. With guy like lehkonen, byron/armia.

Phil have his mind set on something else than hockey and that explains why he under-perform.

Danault is currently 27 years old. He will be 29 at the end of next year.

Have to disagree with that. It might have been more true in Eric Belanger's playing days, but nowadays the league's best players tend to dominate possession. Even if they are subpar without the puck (not necessarily the case - Matthews is actually excellent defensively), they make up for it by being on offense more than they are on defense.

I really doubt that it is easier to score vs. Matthews/Marner than it is vs Spezza/Mikheyev.
