Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

You would think the player that believes he should be the highest paid player in the NHL should be an automatic choice for any team of any country come Olympic selection.

Marner was also not named to either the NHL 1st or 2nd All-Star teams this year despite breaking 100 points for the first time. Neither did he receive any personal trophy or awards.

All signs including statistical comparisons point to Overrated and Overpaid when it comes to Marner.

There is no source data that can be supplied to validate that contract ask.
I found McDavids omission from the 1st or 2nd All Star teams a bigger surprise.
Lots of great players weren’t selected including Matthews and Nylander.

Think about what Bill Guerin did in Minnesota, another playoff failure team that struggled to ever get out of the first round. He spent big money and took a massive cap penalty to get rid of two home state guys via buyout in Parise and Suter. Think about what the Rangers have done with Trouba and Kreider. Turfed. Think about what Boston did for Brad Marchand in their first non playoff season in ages. Showed captain the door.
No doubt about it.

If anything, I think the Core 5 have it easy bc I just can’t see any teams purposely running it back for 7 years straight hoping for different results like the Leafs.

Hayes said it best last summer. It started with Leafs got a great future and chance to win the Cup with the Core 5 to we must win with the Core 5.

Wish Marner all the best. When they were beat out the writing was on the wall.

However he could of at least engaged with the Leafs. Maybe it's bs but seems like it's legit. He gone.

Could of made a deal with them... maybe even a sign and trade (wishful thinking)... but he's just going to walk.

He's leaving behind what could of been a legacy and multiple leaf records.

I heard maybe he only signs a 4 year deal today too lol... if that happens... that's him and Matthews joining a team down the road.. its like Miami years back in the NBA... lol.

Getting ahead of myself but wouldn't f***ing surprise me at this point.

I'll just say it again.. I hope Treliving gets really creative this off season.
That Miami core made it to the finals 4 years in a row and won 2 of them.

I wouldn’t exactly compare Matthews and Marner to that era. Lol.

I know you’re emotional right now, but don’t worry, you’ll survive. In a few weeks, once the dust settles, you can follow Marner to his new team and keep professing your irrational love for him over there.

It’s not goodbye, it’s just the start of a new chapter.

We’ll miss you. Stop by and say hello sometime.
Been here a lot longer than you

4 months is alot? You have 5100 posts, about 0.8 posts per day. But suddenly this past year or two began posting at a significant rate recently and just in the Marner thread. So im assuming you will disappear again once Marner is gone?
You will only ever find one of us posting charts and quotes and conversations with chatGPT about Mitch Marner on the main boards

That would be me — because I use evidence-based research to support my posts. Unlike you, who just offers emotional reactions.
And you are telling me you won't be following Marner to his new team to post evidence about him? Those fans will need to be educated about him, quotes from Daneyko and screenshots of clickbait headlines and sprint speed charts, don't forget what mcdavid said about playing high in the zone

I have never heard another major sports team in the NFL, NBA, MLB or European soccer complain about media and pressure. Why does that only affect Toronto? Some of those markets make Toronto look like child’s play.
This franchise just has a victim complex or something. They hear this narrative about how hard it is to play here so they have completrly over corrected and coddled their players as much as they can trying to defeat this narrative. They give their players the world and anything they ask for. It's pathetic and needs to stop. Have some respect. Stop letting players continuously clown you and make some cut throat decisions when expectations are not being made. If any player let it be known that the pressure is to much or getting to them then move on from them.

which Leafs players have complained about pressure? the players who spoke up loudest about the pressure of this market were those dicks on Florida twisiting the knife

You clearly weren't though. Your description of Nylander's contract (long term, overpaid) only fits his current one, and you were making claims about Matthews' contract being relevant to Marner's ask "now", and that argument doesn't even work unless you're talking about his current one. Their last contracts were also fine and have nothing to do with anything.

This may surprise you, but Presidents don't sign player contracts. GMs do.

He did though.

Funny? No.
Sad? Yes.
Predictable? Absolutely. The Leafs have a long history of making poor decisions.
You’re still the same, Dekes, or should I call you Paul? When I mentioned Matthews’ contract, it was Dubas who gave it to him, and then he also overpaid Marner. Both he, and especially Shanahan, gave in to both of them. They gave both of them the money as well as the term they wanted. And now Matthews got his way again on his current contract. What, or should I say who, is the common denominator in this? That’s right, it’s Shanahan. I’m so glad they finally booted him out. As far as Tre goes, he definitely can’t do any worse than what Shanahan did.

I have no proof that Shanahan was the reason Tre gave in to Matthews regarding his current contract, but do you have proof that he wasn’t? I’m sure you do since you think you’re part of the management team. Lol

I wouldn't trade places with any of those teams.
