Bucks County.
Gwynn is a good choice if you want a larger HoF. If you're dying on the hill of it being for the true elites, I don't see a single defense of it.

The older I get, the more I come down on the side of the former approach fwiw. He's above my bar. As you said, it's just interesting how we contextualize these things. Age is absolutely a factor. You're more likely to overrate players you saw as a kid than any other group.

The topic brings up a fun conversation though. Who are the ultimate "In/Out" players at each position? In other words, who is the person you look at and say "If you are better than him, you're in. If you aren't, you're out".

I first heard of that concept when someone was explaining how Donovan McNabb is a good NFL QB person for that. He is very debatable to be in or out, so he makes a good "line" to compare other people to.

Wait I'm not sure how I missed this if it was posted on here but a couple days ago Gelb reported the Phillies didn't even meet with Soto lol

Nice work guys. Somehow, Castellanos is partially to blame for this. This is only half joking

What would be the point? His ask would blow their salary apart.

Looking at the overpays in FA in every sport, still think best strategy is grow your own and lock 'em up early, even when you miscalculate, much cheaper than committing yourself to a 30 year old for 7 years.

The best deals are based on an affordable floor with potential upside, Wheeler for example.
The worst is paying players based on one or two peak seasons at 28-30, and expecting them to play at that level until their last 30s (Turner, Castellanos).

I've been thinking about this.

Small Hall Version
Position: Frank Thomas
Starter: Don Drysdale
Reliever: They can buy tickets or have the Eckersley Starter career beforehand. No, not Rivera.

Big Hall Version
Position: Andruw Jones
Starter: Dwight Gooden
Reliever: Tom Henke (He was a lot better than most people remember.)

Conforto for 1/17 is going to end up as one of my favorite contracts this offseason. The Dodgers are good at this.

Year to win was 2022. Couldnt get it done and the window hasnow closed unless Dombrowski has tricks up his sleeves.

Hard to win when youre the 3rd best team in the division.
