f*** that. If we are doing a golden at-bat rule I want to see a rule like the NBA used to have with the 3-point contest where if they hit the last ball in a rack it was worth 5 or something. I want to be able to call the double HR rule and have the chance to double the runs if you hit a HR during that at-bat. But first you have to play Plinko and figure out how many double HR balls you get.

Yeah, sure, Golden AB or whatever, give me the Lead Arm.

Once per game, each team gets to choose one of the 8 other players on the opposing team to pitch to whoever's up next. Pitcher fields their position instead. They return to their normal positions after that AB.

What's your gut tell you with Bohm? Sounds like they're not interested in having him back.

Just came here to post this lol

Obviously you ask high first but sheesh. Does this mean they actually don't really want to trade him?
Where there is smoke there is usually fire. The leaks under Dombo have been true a decent amount. They don't really have many tradable big league players outside of him so if you want to shake things up, he's the likely mover.

Interesting the targets were pitchers. I'm sure the Crochet rumors will pick back up.

I'm not surprised it's pitching since GMs tend to load up, especially nowadays with how injuries can seemingly pop out of nowhere, particularly in the arm

That said, it's ironic that Bohm, one of their least swing-and-miss tendency guys, is the one on the block. In the MLB especially, it's obvious why (contract) but it still is ironic

A's just signed Luis Severino at 3 yrs 67mil, the biggest guaranteed contract in franchise history, surpassing a contract extension for ENDY CHAVEZ IN 2004 at 6 yr 66mil

Biggest FA contract since BILLY BUTLER in 2016 at 6 yrs 60mil LOLLLLLL
The good news is... I own a house in Vegas and having a baseball team will help.

That team is gonna STINK until my grandchildren sell that house

This has royally pissed some people off. He's not wrong.

Gwynn is a better "cool stat" guy than he was an actual player. People love to say "he struck out 16 times in 1993" or whatever, which is super f***ing cool. Don't get me wrong. He was an amazing hitter. But so is Luis Arraez. Are we annointing him first ballot?

If Arraez does it consistently for the next 15 years then year probably. I don't know when getting hits became a negative but Gwynn was as good a player as his stats show. And I would bet everything I own that if walks more en vogue than hits as they are now, he would have had more walks and fewer hits.

No one is saying Gwynn doesn't deserve the Hall or, even crazier leap here, hits are a negative???! You're fighting ghosts.

It's just the classic HoF talking point of "if him, why not him?" This is about Abreu not getting the recognition he deserves. It's not about Gwynn being undeserving of the Hall of Fame

(It might be about Gwynn being undeserving of a shoe-in first balloter, though)

Gwynn is a good choice if you want a larger HoF. If you're dying on the hill of it being for the true elites, I don't see a single defense of it.

The older I get, the more I come down on the side of the former approach fwiw. He's above my bar. As you said, it's just interesting how we contextualize these things. Age is absolutely a factor. You're more likely to overrate players you saw as a kid than any other group.

Oh I'm with you on the HoF being for the elites. We can't change the Hall as is though, and this Hall of Fame deserves Gwynn. That's the reality I'm operating in...even though I might not agree with it lol

Which honestly is pretty typical, sports or not

Read it again. :)

This stuff is all made up to fund a small town cartel anyway. I'd rather have more people be celebrated while they're alive. Buck O'Neil changed that for me. But the bar has got to be higher than Harold Baines. JFC.

Stop being a baseball nerd and go sit in front of your PC and wait for 4:00pm Eastern (I think, didn't look it up) nerd.

Oh I'm just an idiot.

I want to be clear, I'm not dying on any hills here. Well yeah, except Harold Baines. But you know what I mean. In my opinion, the Hall of Fame should be for the elites. The teams can retire numbers/wall of fame the Gwynns and Baineses of the world.

But again. That's not how we do it around here, and that's fine. But you have to be consistent

Or you can use this as a stumping point to rail against the idea of walks having value instead of laying out a differing meaningful case if you're intellectually bankrupt. The choice belongs to all of us.

its contra any sport rules. Its a team sport. If you only want the stars to shine, play the game with 4 batters each team. Dont understand this shit! Maybe just play only 4 inings cause we only want to see the star pitchers..... its so stupid
Waiting for them to allow each player to hit the ball off a tee once per game too.
