I know I joked about them blowing their offensive loads early in the postseason but that's kinda what happened. Everyone was hot. The regression was inevitable. Unfortunately it hit the whole team at once.

They pitched well enough to win the series. They just couldn't string together consistent offense.
I mean this same shit happened last year, too. If you constantly go into streaks where nobody can hit, your coaching sucks, because you have to be able to pull levers to get them out of it. Topper doesn't know how

Our bullpen is a f***ing mess, but it's workable when you use it right. Topper f***ed with the formula in Arizona and blew 2 winnable games that brought them back into it.

All of this points to having a shit coaching staff. I know the players love Topper, but holy hell everything he did this postseason was wrong. At times you could argue he actively put us in position to lose. We cannot be an analytically driven team while also completely throwing the analytics out the window the second things get tight.

It's hard to say you have bad management when you go to back to back NLCS, but he got out coached by Dusty f***ing Baker last year and this guy now. Cmon that's not ok

Think these big money guys are in for a rude awakening next year now that it’s going to be a 162-game preseason. Not gonna be pizza and bl**j**s. No dancing and the himbo stuff won’t be funny.

Lots of bandwagon fans with egg on their face. Stubbs can’t be popular either right now. Arizona beat the Brewers, Dodgers, and now Phillies. They are clearly a good team. Phillies are better but they shot themselves in the foot
They were like 6 games over .500. They only got in because the cubs out-sucked them towards the end. The regular season defines how good baseball teams are and has forever and ever but unfortunately MLB in their infinite greed has made the longest regular season in sports completely meaningless. Arizona is a mediocre team that got good situational hitting and pitching at the right time. It’s all about getting in and being hot at the right time now. Might as well expand the postseason to 16 teams and let half the league have a shot at being called world champs any given season. And I say this as a bitter Braves fan.

Fair enough. He is an infuriating player and if they can even get gatorade cups after eating some of his contract he should be traded.
Middleton has said he'll pay whatever it takes to win a World Series

Paying Castellanos to f*** off to bumf*** Idaho in the who gives a shit league is a great way to prove those words right in the coming months

That was also on my list @Jack Straw. That Blazers team was great though.
I remember 1977 was bad but I don’t remember the details at this point. But more disappointing than this for sure. 2002 against TB is maybe the worst one that I remember clearly. But the all-time worst for me, even though I have only very vague memories of it (probably my earliest semi-clear sports memory) is 1964. I’ve never gotten over that and I’ve hated the Cardinals for it to this day.

Thompson made some inexcusable mistakes this series. His coaching, and the offense, are the reason they lost. His managing of the bullpen was horrible. We all know about earlier in the series, but tonight was a showcase of f***ups. No reason for Ranger to face Carroll with a runner on 2nd with 2 outs. He was 2-2 at that point and it’s clear when someone has Ranger’s number (see Marte earlier in the series). It went as expected, Carroll singles the runner home. Tied game. He’s a great base stealer so he’s soon on second. Hoffman is put in the game and gives up the hit to score Carroll, which I really don’t blame Hoffman for. Then Hoffman is cruising. Thompson pulls him for Alvarado and next thing you know the first two batters he faces are on second and third. Not sure why you pull Hoffman when he was doing fine for the often shaky Alvarado. Of course one of those runners gets home and now a 2 run lead seems insurmountable

I don’t want to add up how much money Trea, Harper, and Nick are making, but it’s too much for the 0-23 with 1 walk combined for games 6 and 7. They were up in some huge spots too. Always hero ball. It’s not as bad but I thought that Cave should have pinch hit for Rojas with the bases loaded as Rojas is basically an auto out. Runs were precious at that point and Cave being a lefty matched up well vs an on the ropes Pfaadt

TLDR block of text: Thompson sucked, offense sucked

ETA: maybe we should stop with the Bryce Harper Superman stuff. Series wasn’t solely his fault but he is clearly prone to disappear in series

Rofl, the birds are in good shape. Winning last year would have been nice though. If they find a way to get homefield they are going back.
They won't win shit with the battery of this version of Hurts and Johnson. Lane and Kelce retirements are just around the corner.

The windows for both of these teams are not as wide as everyone thinks

Buddy. It's baseball not basketball. He can't draw up a 3 point play. They are managers. Not coaches. PLAYERS have to hit and guys have to throw strikes. They didn't at crucial points of the series and this is the end result.
