I remember 1977 was bad but I don’t remember the details at this point. But more disappointing than this for sure. 2002 against TB is maybe the worst one that I remember clearly. But the all-time worst for me, even though I have only very vague memories of it (probably my earliest semi-clear sports memory) is 1964. I’ve never gotten over that and I’ve hated the Cardinals for it to this day.
To me after 1964 this is the worst. That was long before me though. That being written, I dont feel nearly as much pain inside after what happened in Super Bowl 39. I legit couldnt eat correctly for 3 months until Liverpool beat AC Milan.

I once again was told to normalize blowing leads but just can't help but notice the Diamondbacks blew zero leads if memory serves, both SP and bullpen. Everything changed when they blew that game 3 lead.

The Sixers loss to the Hawks a couple years ago was worse than this for me. That was unforgiveable. Tbh, the Sixers loss to Boston last year was pretty bad too.

They blew a lead in game 4 but due to Rob they regained it. Their bullpen was better than expected though yes. The Phillies need relievers that can throw strikes more consistently.

Eagles losing a Super Bowl to the best QB and coach is in no way similar to blowing a 2-0 lead to an inferior 84 win Diamondbacks team. This is much much worse.

Too many bad things happened in Arizona to get this series back to Philly. The series completely changed with Kimbrel.

No it didn't lose the series. But a player need not discuss jumping into the opponent's pool until AFTER the series is won. Keep your yap shut.

This reminded me of that Hawks series. Though I dont think the 76ers could have won the finals. The Phillies team could have won world series but we will never know.

02 Eagles vs TB Bucs
04 Flyers vs TB Lightning
10 Phillies vs SF Giants
11 Phillies vs Stl Cardinals

These are the worst playoff losses in my life. As I’ve gotten older I don’t let them bother me as much

Buddy. It's baseball not basketball. He can't draw up a 3 point play. They are managers. Not coaches. PLAYERS have to hit and guys have to throw strikes. They didn't at crucial points of the series and this is the end result.
The f*** the managers can't do anything.

You can flip around the lineup. You can start Pache over Rojas hoping his offense can provide a spark. You can put Harper right after Schwarber to force pitchers to force pitchers to have to put to one of them. You can have Turner lead off and hope he gets on base so that walking Schwarber isn't automatic like it is after Rojas, and you can protect Harper by putting JT after him.

Theres a lot that Topper could have done to jolt the lineup back awake after it went into the funk in Arizona. He attempted absolutely nothing. The lineup didn't change this series.

Contrast that to the other side where Arizona played with their batting order until they found something that worked. And by the time Game 7 rolled around they were playing as the better team. Because their manager did his job.

Nothing more heartbreaking in sports than the baseball playoffs. All about what pieces come together at the right time.

I’m not sure, I think the Phillies weakness were pretty clearly exposed in this series. I think the Braves may be wondering, “how did we lose to that team?”

How’s this change is Diamondbacks win the WS? Does it make it easier to swallow? All I know is the Phillies need a new hitting coach. Their approach at the plate and situational hitting is terrible. Revamp that, beef up the bullpen, get rid of Nick, and try again next year

Same here. I’ve seen enough of them to not mind so much. There are no sure things in sports and in the end it’s (or should be) just a pleasant diversion.

It's the same lineup that ran train through Game 2 of the NLCS. Lineup construction is overrated. Nobody hit. That's why they lost. If the manager has influence over anything it's on the pitching side. They *checks notes* led baseball in pitching WAR in the regular season and led the postseason in ERA, FIP, xFIP...by a wide margin.

Lol no

If they win the WS then we choked away our best shot at a title. If they get smoked, then we choked away a series against a clearly inferior team. And if they lose a close one, then we'd have probably won had we not choked when up 2-0

Yeah. I look it as most years I’ll be disappointed, and once every ~10 years I’ll have a great memory that lasts a lifetime. Sports have no bearing on your life unless you’re a degenerate gambler, but that would be your own fault

The Phillies prevented another Braves World Series, that is the only positive. If Seager is starting to hit again, not sure the Phillies could beat the Rangers. If he would go back into his slumber I think they would have.
