I think you guys did great in this trade. Coburn is so underrated on hfboards. He plays a very unglamours role but he is a legit stud. One of the best skaters in the league , can play huge minutes. You guys did well

I'm here guys. Wow.

We've got him for antoher year and like DFC mentioned, we'll see what to do with him after camp. I know that giving up Gudas is not "happy", but see our D pairings next season
Hedman - Stralman
Garisson - Coburn
Sustr - Barberio/Witkovski/DeAngelo/Koekkoek/Blujus

Thanks for the input. Sounds more and more like he'd be a great fit alongside Hedman. Two big and smooth skating defensemen, one for offense (Heds), one for defense (Brayden).

Well at least the Philli fans are pumping his tires. They siad Carle was going to lead to disapointments for us and they were right on the nose with that. Hope they are being honest with us again and it may make this deal seem better.

Main board sucks. Radko will be a fan favorite in Philly, no doubt about it.

Also, to those pointing to his lack of point production...

Stralman had 13 points last season. He has 32 this season. Coburn's offense will likely improve just by proximity to our depth. Philly is a total one line team - if you're not out there with Giroux/Voracek, you're not getting points.

Edit: and despite his lack of offense, he's only a -1 while playing over 20 minutes a night on a not very good team. I don't feel bad about this move one bit.

FWIW Coburn's advanced stats are fine too. Faces tough competition, low offensive zone starts percentage, decent Corsi and very low PDO (982)

"Lightning Manage NHL Trade Deadline Beautifully with Coburn, Connolly Deals"

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...adline-beautifully-with-coburn-connolly-deals

"Unlike most of the names dealt in recent weeks, Coburn isn’t a rental player. The 6’5â€, 220-pound rearguard is under contract for another season at what NHL Numbers has as a manageable $4.5 million cap hit. The 30-year-old has more than 600 games of regular-season experience and another 70 in the playoffs, and he finds the balance nicely between being a savvy veteran and still having tread on the tires."

"In exchange for a guy who has yet to carve out an NHL niche and is rapidly approaching the point in his career when one goes from prospect to suspect, the Lightning got a pretty princely sum from the Bruins. It’s not exactly “sixth overall pick†princely, but a pair of second-round selections goes a long way toward mitigating the damage to the team system caused by shipping away a first and a third in the Coburn deal."

It's a tad overpayment but that's the price you need during this time of year. We still a first rounder and we gained two second rounders. Connollys time here was done anyways. Our defense is very much improved over last years playoff squad. A lot more experienced for sure. I like it. Also hope Gudas can come back from injury. Will miss him.

Coburn is set to land in Tampa this afternoon so we should see him already in tomorrows game.

I will say that it's a bit weird that we'll play Buffalo as our first game after TDL this year again (we did it last year).

The last part reminds me of what both Boyle and Strålman said after talking to Cally about TBL.

I think this is a bit of an overpayment but lets be real, he isn't a rental and gudas is kind of worthless this season

So with Garrison wearing #5 what number will Coburn get?

He's worn #55 for team Canada at the WC.

If he goes with #55, it should feel eerily like another trade deadline move in the past where we added a veteran dman for a young group heading into the playoffs for the 2nd year.

I look forward to him next season. As far as Coburn goes he has the tools but no toolbox. That was the part of his game that left you wanting more. He should be a good complimentary player for you just not a dominating one. You will see very small spurts where he excites you and then leaves you wondering why he cannot do it all of the time. Anyway good luck with him. As a Flyers fan I am very happy with this deal and hope it works out for you.
