He's worn #55 for team Canada at the WC.

If he goes with #55, it should feel eerily like another trade deadline move in the past where we added a veteran dman for a young group heading into the playoffs for the 2nd year.

Does that transitively mean that Brett Connolly is Alex Svitov?

Will wear #55 for us.

Now that I've had time to process this trade I'm content with it even if it's an overpayment. Glad to see so many Flyers fans that think highly of Coburn. I'm really excited to see him with Hedman. Also glad to see that players have such good things to say about Tampa. It makes me happy as a fan to know that the team is seen as a positive destination by UFAs and players with NTCs.

Yeah, I don't think anyone has said it's not an overpayment - but if it is one, it's a small one and one I can live with. We gave up nothing from the roster right now and are a much better team than we were yesterday, and our future is still in tact.

What more could you want?

Also realizing this is a ****** crop of RD this offseason who are going to demand a very high price, and that hole wasn't going anywhere. This tightens this up for 4.5 million, when we would be paying more than that likely.

Coburn is a top pairing dman with the right partner. The Timonen/Coburn duo was great for Philly for years. We had to put him in over his head the last couple years, which led to a lot of frustration and mistakes, but in a reduced role or with a good partner you guys will be pleased with this acquisition.

He skates fantastically well for a guy of his size, and when he goes into Angry Mode he's an animal.

I asked this on the main boards and got a good response. Hedman plays on the first pair, and I'm curious if Coburn can anchor that pair. Your fellow Philly fans said yes. I'm just afraid that being on the top pair, facing the teams competition, how Coburn would be. Is he able to stack up against other teams' best, night in and night out, while allowing Hedman to roam, and take his leash off?

Good thing here is he can slot in on the 1st or 2nd pair.

I don't think that's a huge concern though. Whether he's paired with Hedman or Garrison (Stralman is pretty good at holding a leash too), we're going to be able to ice two pairings that can take on top competition without being outclassed. That's what a good top 4 does - we may use Hedman - Stralman/Coburn in the way that Chicago uses Keith - Seabrook - not to do the heavy defensive lifting but to put out their with our best offensive unit and just spend the entire time in the offensive zone.

Oooooh.

Difficult question. I haven't watched Hedman enough to really answer. Coburn was always at his best when he had Timonen, who was a defensive stalwart. However, Hedman is clearly better than anybody Coburn has been paired with this year so I imagine he will do adequately.

This might be our biggest D ever as well. I like that Yzerman got 2 2nds for Connolly though. So we still have a 1st and 2nd round in this years draft. Surplus of Forwards for the needs of D.

I'm kind of hoping to see him with Hedman so he won't have to babysit anymore and can go back to beasting in the offensive zone with a reliable defenseman next to him.

Man the optimism is cute, but Yzerman got the shaft hard. I unfortunately have to watch the Flyers fairly often. He's not good

We had $3.5M of CAP space right? We had to throw in about $1M to fit Coburn under the CAP - ergo Gudas? #RIPCapgeek

True. I'm just excited at the prospect of Hedman not having to babysit Andrej "Bambi on Ice" Sustr. I'm hoping with a solid anchor on Hedman's pair, he can roam a little more, and chip in offensively.

I agree. Unfortunately Hedman needs somebody to babysit him.
