I honest-to-god, above being a Kings-second-only-to-Flyers fan hope that it works for them and works for Vinny. As a hockey fan, it was sad to see Vinny go out the way he was. It was a bad situation, the cap number hanging over the team was black as the night, but the guy was still a professional and handled it with dignity.

With that said, Vinny being put in bubble wrap and left on the shelf was due process. He was there because he was that bad. AHL players were putting put ahead of him for valid reasons. 7 games under Dave Hakstol is a very small sample size, but it was one of the few things Craig Berube was doing right. The raw skills still exist, if a spot is to be had on the 2nd power play, there was a few stretches where produced points as a 4th liner, he could be an option, but he's a possession anchor on top of almost literally being an anchor himself. If there's a spark, hope he rides it, but I'm not holding my breath

Kings were looking a little exposed at center with Carter out. It was Kopitar, Shore, Lewis and Andreoff...that was rough. Two of those guys are 2nd year players and Lewis is really a 3rd/4th liner.

Don't underestimate Schenn. He was a top 5 pick. A guy like John Stevens could do wonders for him.

Well looks like some of you guys got that 3rd line Center you wanted lol

This is dean saying that he's all in and the future can suck it haha

If the future was dependent of a 3rd round and weal this team was going to suck anyways. People act as if the kings just traded Carter for these guys....

Yep, he loves the spread the minutes around if he can.

What you hit on with balance is key. The Kings are most successful when they have a SAH paired with a puck mover. It wouldn't surprise me to see Ehrhoff's game take off a little bit, it loosens the reins a little bit when you know the other guy is a defense first type. Same with McBain.

The M&M's have been lights out for most the year anyways, our 2nd pairing is set. Picking up a guy that will allow other D to fall into their correct slot for a good price is a pretty good risk.
McBain and Schenn will not see the ice together. Neither will play the left side.

Let's face it, the Kings and their staff are defensemen whisperers for the most part. It's rare for a defender to come here and actually be worse than the season before. Let's see if there's any more magic left in that kettle for Luke Schenn to drink.

Thankfully others remembered Kozun because his name already was flushed from my memory. I wish Weal all the best, but this is a repeat performance of that act. Last I saw was Kozun playing for the Maries.

The 08 draft I was high on Schenn. I liked his style. I hope he can recapture his game.

Schenn gives dean depth and options on the back. I won't be surprised to see Forbort and Schenn in ONT. Give Derek more playing time and gives Luke a chance to play and learn the LA system with less pressure.

This Dean making a preliminary move ahead of the TDL which gives him time to figure out if he needs to make another move.

As a Flyers fan, I think that Luke Schenn will be a solid player for the Kings. People give him a hard time, but I think it's mostly because he was drafted so high. He will be a solid d-man for you and I hope he wins a Cup. I think y'all will like him just fine.

True. Vinny has size, skill, and experience. He's like Carter, but ten years from now. Hopefully, Carter will be back soon. If Carter's wrist is broken, he'll likely be out until April. In the interim, Vinny will be able to substitute for Carter admirably. Sure, Vinny's gotten slower, but the Kings play a slow, slow system. It'll work.

Early trade for the Kings. Will be interesting. Honestly consider it low risk, possible great reward. Didn't give up too much. Good luck to Weal in Philly.

Fun facts of the day:

Lecavalier played in 7 games this season for the Flyers.

They were 0-6-1 in those games.

Lecavalier had one assist and was a -1 overall.

The Flyers were outscored by 18 goals in those 7 games.

Fun fact of the day:

The Flyers suck!

We all get this is a dumpster dive to a degree but DL has been a better judge of talent than most of the GM's on this board. This is a low risk, medium reward type of thing. I doubt DL wanted to give up a ton of assets to get a big fish as I'm guessing he probably doesn't feel it's necessary at this time.

What's the downside?

Exactly, there is no downside. Losing Weal and a 3rd round pick is insignificant.

We are now no longer one injury away from having Ehrhoff and Forbort both in the lineup. Forbort likely goes back to Ontario and Ehrhoff and McBain play the 6/7 roles. Which makes the team significantly better on defense.

Vinny can still take a regular shift on the bottom six, this enables the Kings to roll with 4 natural centers and move Lewis and Andreoff to wing permanently, which increases the depth on both LW and RW so we aren't stuck dressing guys like Nolan and Clifford in the playoffs.

The absolute worst thing that happens with this deal is Lecavalier stinks up the joint and then the Kings can move Andy or Lewis back to C.

Well, Sutter has openly talked about managing Ehrhoffs time, so if Schenn is playing it's probably going to happen at some time or another.

Agree on some points BUT Nolan was a beast in the first Cup run and Clifford was a beast in the last cup run. Both had key roles, were physical and had fights that changed the momentum of big games. Nolan has like 2-3 hits on youtube from that first playoff run including destroying Petr Harrold.

The problem now is Lucic provides the muscle those guys provide and more. So really no point in having Andreoff, Clifford and Nolan in the lineup when the Kings have Lucic. I have a feeling only one of those 3 will play in the playoffs and judging so far it looks to be Nolan. Clifford has another concussion and Andreoff has been either really good or really bad and Sutter favors longetivity.

man, I remember Nolan and King being instrumental in the St Louis series in that first cup run. I kinda feel like going back and rewatching those games right now

Gonna be beastly when we get Buff too ;)

Lucic-Kopitar-Toffoli
Pearson-Carter-Gaborik
King-Lewis-Brown
Andreoff-Lecavalier-Nolan
(Clifford)

Doughty-Muzzin
Byfuglien-Martinez
McNabb-Schenn
(Ehrhoff, McBain)

edit: Derp, forgot Shore! What a good problem to have :) Maybe King-Shore-Brown / Andreoff-Lecavalier-Lewis or some ****.
