Are we really surprised by this?

A big center and a physical d man go from a mediocre team in the midst of a pseudo rebuild and a new GM and coach to the 2x Stanley Cup Defense originated Kings who have John Stevens and David Payne and who jump started or resurrected the careers of Robin Regehr and Willie Mitchell.

I expected this, especially with Schenn.

I think I sort of expected it with Schenn but I'll admit Vinny has been a big surprise. Did not think he would hold it together as well as he has.

Yeah I thought Vinny was going to be completely finished from the way most Philly fans were talking, like Mike Richards last year bad. That hasn't been the case at all, he's been hustling his ass off and making plays. I hope he gets rewarded with a goal soon.

Schenn looks highly motivated as well, but I always thought our coaching staff would be able to turn him around. I think playing for a winning team makes it WAY easier on these guys as well. Sutter seems to be happy with them because their ice time has gone up quite a bit, especially with Schenn.

Wonder what happens this summer.

Greene will be healthy and Schenn is a UFA. Kings will be using the money for Kopitar and Lucic but I gotta believe DL wants Schenn longer than a rental.

I don't think Greene is coming back. Just a gut feeling that I have

He keeps missing huge chunks of time and when he does come back he's nowhere near what he once was. It would be nice for him to get a farewell season, but if his body is that messed up maybe he should just retire. Hopefully the Kings would hire him to be part of the Club in some way. He's clearly a big part of our winning culture.

I did expect them to work wonders with Schenn but I too thought Lecavalier was dead in the water like Richards last year. Didn't doubt the heart, doubted the body. Guess Philly misread that part maybe as did I.

Schenn actually has a very good first pass (in a system--whehn he can trust a guy to be somewhere) and is getting more and more comfortable with the puck...getting his confidence/mojo back?

I'm with you here. ESPECIALLY because of the talk about extending Schenn the moment we traded for him.

Bolts fan coming in peace.

Vinny was a surprise in Philly, at least for me in particular. In Tampa towards the end he was really nothing special, though he was and still is loved by the Bolts. The fact is though looking at it, towards the end he was just an Average 2nd line center. Not great, but not bad either. He was still quite effective and was dangerous from time to time. Gets bought out, then completely craps the bed over in Philly. For whatever the reason he didn't work out there.

Though the fact that he could be an average/decent 2nd line center to a guy that is useless in the span of a year didn't add up. I hope this good Vinny keeps showing you he has some stuff left in the Tank. Glad to hear that you guys are happy so far with him.

I'm just giving it 10 games or so before I give much thought to it one way or another. I like the deal because a guy like Schenn should get more than a 3rd and Jordan Weal at the trade deadline, despite what a few flyby Flyers fans have said in here, so the deal asset wise is nothing to be upset about. It's not Pancakes Part II.

After 10 games we should have a better grasp of what's the real scoop. They will have settled in by then and you know Lecavalier is playing on a huge adrenaline rush right now. The guy must feel like he's on speed right now. Let's see how he looks after that first rush wears off.

You are criminally under valuing Weal here.

I would love to keep Schenn and replace Greene with him. Greene has basically missed 2.5 out of the last 4 seasons. That's not a good trend. I would imagine Schenn is going to look to cash out if he does well in LA, but he will never have it better elsewhere than here in terms of on ice environment.

It's funny that Philly fans didn't or don't seem to believe that just because a player looks bad playing for a bad team doesn't mean that will be true elsewhere. While Lecavalier's minutes have been limited and guarded to some degree, he's played light years better than any single Philly fan made it seem was possible. Obviously, it's only been a few games and he could fall off a cliff tomorrow but it really goes to show you how much fans really think they know versus what they do know. Hopefully he continues to play better and better. As for Schenn, well he seemed the more likely of the two to work out and so far, i don't really have any doubts in him. Hope they can fit his salary in for next year because we need a player like him.

Same here. I don't really care about Weal but I don't want to get too excited about Vinny and Luke even though they've both been pleasant surprises so far. Adrenaline can work wonders, especially for Vinny who hadn't played in so long.

Well, what do L.A. Fans think of Mike Richards' chances in Washington?

Time will tell. FYI, posters said the same about virtually every prospect we traded away. Its certainly not laughable to assume Weal won't amount to much, but whatever floats your boat big fella.

If he's cleaned up and has his mind focused on the game, I'd say they're pretty solid.

Fair point but I've made zero posts on the trade board or this board about that possibility. I'd say he has a chance if his head isn't complete mush and he's in good shape. But I think that is an apples and oranges comparison. I think the fact that Philly sucks and plays a more up tempo game is the key difference for Lecavalier so far. Plus Richards' issues were/are deeper than either player coming from Philly.

Speaking of which, has he played a game yet?

Nope. I've been watching for it. Neither Richards nor Weal have played yet for their new teams.

Was Joke. Weally.

I thought we agreed that if he was clean he could become a serviceable player, specially in the third C role

this and he is playing for a million a year not 6 , he should be worth that in the room alone, the Caps have williams and if richie works out that's a pretty good upgrade in "heart"

Mike Richards is a lazy hockey player. I would never bring him into that lockerroom. Can expectations get lower than zero? Because mine are.
