Nope. I've been watching for it. Neither Richards nor Weal have played yet for their new teams.

I think Weal will play, and actually do fairly well. He just can't be in a system that virtually uses the C as a third D. It doesn't suit him.

Well, what do L.A. Fans think of Mike Richards' chances in Washington?

The Caps top two lines are extremely solid! After that it tapers. So, he has a good shot at 3C or 4C. Plus, don't forget about possible injuries. Some teams are more suited depth wise to move players into the top six, and the other aren't. So.... Mike could be wearing a ring yet again!!

Mike Richards is a lazy hockey player. I would never bring him into that lockerroom. Can expectations get lower than zero? Because mine are.

that could have been a side effect of the norco's and oxyco's if he was abusing them, I unfortunately have both personal and very close friends that have had issues with them, they are like most drugs prevalent in the IE and not only change your personality they lead you to addiction because your body gets use to them quickly, guys making 6 figures using them because it was easier to sell with the altered personality got to the point of uselessness within a very short time losing everything, so if Richie gets the help he needs now that his issue is out in the open he would be the last guy I would call lazy.hopefully his body recovers so he can compete like he probably thought he was the last two seasons

On the Schenn, VL pickups, it's been a great honeymoon so far, but 3 home games after 3 Quack games?? There's a lot more to come! For starters, I'm not convinced at all yet about the chemistry between CE and LS. I'll agree with everyone about Schenn being far more physical than McB, but much like McN, I don't see good foot speed and lateral movement D wise, and at times I'd say pylon. Unlike McN, he doesn't have DD to just grab the puck and break it out!! I do think Schenn should play for one reason, and that is that CE and McB are redundant in that they really only play Pp, and can't kill. So to me, the lineup is like either, CE with Schenn, or Forbort with McBain!! Forbort can kill as well. The point is one of each, lefty righty, PK-pp. IMO

I defended the guy in every thread on this board. However, after his recent quotes, I find him to be a lazy player. A consummate professional that threw in the towel even after Dean gave him another chance. Dean went to Kenora to check in on him and Mike promised to him. He lied. He then lied again and tried to cover things up. I'm glad Dean terminated his contract. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

I can totally agree with that.

Hexy knows what he's getting in Weal, too. He'll have an idea on how to use him most effectively.

I tend to agree!! It's more the GMs of the world still getting excited about the possibility!! I'm not referring to DL.

He probably had a drug problem though. Don't think it's possible to work when your ****ed up all day. And it's pretty hard to admit having a problem.

If it was meth or heroin I'd be pretty pissed, but it's easy to get addicted to pain killers especially as a hockey player, where you go through multiple procedures per season.

I've never felt superior to anyone and I certainly don't feel superior to an NHL athlete that has won everything to win. I still love the guy and he's one of my favorite players of all time. I defended this guy so much on this board. Herby knows how many times we butted heads on #10. I'm not even angry; I'm very disappointed that he lied to Dean and the Kings.

Mike Richards had a contractual commitment to the Los Angeles Kings and he broke it. He deserved to have his contract terminated.

Aside from all the problems and lies he told Dean, he's simply not a very good hockey player. He was solid in the AHL (watched every game he played), but the AHL is a completely different animal than the NHL.

I get that they are trying to absorb the Beagle loss, but they are currently the best team in the league. Regardless of price, you want to ice the best team possible. I don't believe Mike Richards, at this stage of his career, affords that. He hasn't played a game in the NHL since April 9, 2015. Think about that. And now they'll apparently put him dead center on the third line? I've seen that movie before.

I'm sure the Kings could sign Penner for the league minimum, but why would they?

I don't expect Mike Richards to finish the season on the Capitals.

I also find MacLellan saying that their due diligence heavily factored into asking Justin Williams about him and he said Mike is a great guy. What the hell is he going to say???

I hope Mike cleans himself up, and it appears he already has. He's an awesome guy and has won everything. I hope he is healthy and levelheaded. Wish him the best.

Maybe they need to repo some gym equipment?

Fair point but I've made zero posts on the trade board or this board about that possibility. I'd say he has a chance if his head isn't complete mush and he's in good shape. But I think that is an apples and oranges comparison. I think the fact that Philly sucks and plays a more up tempo game is the key difference for Lecavalier so far. Plus Richards' issues were/are deeper than either player coming from Philly.

Speaking of which, has he played a game yet?

Barry Trotz says Mike Richards could play both games this weekend at Buffalo, home vs. Rangers. #CapitalsTalk

Pretty much the plan Trotz outlined when they signed him , wanted 5 intense practice sessions, then get him playing thru the All Star Break and while the NHL is on break, he'll go to Hershey to keep skating. Goal is, as it should be not playing in almost 10 mos, start on the 4th line until he gets his up to speed and then moves up to the 3rd line.

He'll go vs the Sabres and then depending on how he feels, sunday vs the rags

honest question. I like richards over him but based on last season's play. How does Richards find an NHL job before Oli Joikenen?

I think it has to come down to Richards has won at every level he has played at. And the Caps are looking very good to make a very deep run in the playoffs. So having his experience could be a very valuable thing. Remember that both Washington as a franchise and Trotz as a coach have never had good success in the playoffs. 1997-98 was the last time they got past the second round.

burn it with fire. I guarantee you VL will never see 2nd line center time, and Carts wont get moved to wing...hes entirely too valuable/useful at C. Id be surprised if VL plays at all to be honest

VL will not see top6 ice time. Dude is 3 months away from turning 36. He doesnt have the footspeed to keep up with Gaborik/Carter/Pearson/Toffoli whoever is playing on that line.

He's going to see bottom 6 ice time. Exactly what DL said on the call.

Never say never.
