The sad thing is Dustin Brown has only 1 more goal than Vinnie.
I can make a long list of players you wouldn't think who have more goals than Dustin Brown. Like Chris Thorburn, Scottie Upshall, Cody McLeod, Dale Weise, Andrew Shaw, Bobby Farnham, Matt Martin, Cal Clutterbuck, Viktor Stalberg, Jason Chimera, you get the idea.
Dustin Brown has had career highs that eclipses the numbers of the players I listed above, yet he has somehow sunken so far down in production that he is now producing at a level below guys that you wouldn't compare to Dustin Brown in previous years.
What this tells me is just how bad of a player he has become when the puck touches his stick. He's a player who doesn't know how to use his linemates nor does he know his strengths. He has become a player with no identity whatsoever. That's the type of player I like least; one who serves no purpose. Brown needs to find his purpose and identity or he's going to be looking at a new address where he may be shoveling snow come next winter.

Agreed. What happened to his hitting game?
How come Shane Doan can still contribute and Brown can't? He's much older.

Brown has been hesitant ever since the suspension
I agree. I think he got declawed.
To lesser extents, I also think the multiple championships and the family life have sapped some of his drive as well.

My post was about his hitting not his goal scoringThe suspension was right before the 2013 playoffs, and in the 250 games since the start of those playoffs, he's got 39 goals and 86 points. The best he's played since that suspension was the 2014 playoffs.
That could be coincidence and he's just older, or it could be because of that suspension, or some combination of both. Or, the drive, which may be at home instead. I like the lack of identity perspective. At least on the ice, he really is just sort of there. Doesn't hit much. As in, hitting with a purpose, not just bumping a guy. Shoots a bunch but rarely anything dangerous. Kills penalties though. 2nd highest forward in total SH time on the team, and 3rd in average.
It's a lot to pay a 3rd line penalty killer. Lately not all that different statistically than Lewis.
Games hits
2010-11 82 300
2011-12 82 293
2012-13 46 156 - Full season would have been 278
2013-14 79 241
2014-15 82 242
2015-16 46 118 -Projected to be 210
BingoDoes the Brown family live in a shoe?
RE: his hitting
I thought for sure he was going for a big hit last night when a defender had the puck behind the net and Brown had a great angle to lay a nice one. Instead he comes in with his patented tomahawk chop on the defenders stick which lead to absolutely nothing. I think if he were hitting everything that moved, he could easily be a 40 point player based on the turnovers it would create. He doesn't have to lay blistering hits either. Just throw the body around and hopefully you separate the puck from the player once in a while.
Brown has been hesitant ever since the suspension
So he's basically gone from 300 hits a season to 250? That's basically one hit every other game. That's not a big drop off for a guy who is 30 and been through a decade of hard wear.
statistically its not that big, but the old eye test shows that he's less engaged than ever. Sutter has talked about it multiple times before; in order for Brown to be effective and involved in games, he has to stick to his identity and that is being a physical player. when he's not hitting, he's almost completely absent in every sense of the word. its really weird how it works but its 100% true. Ive been paying a lot of attention to Brown the last 2 seasons and it often looks like he's lost on the ice. Its not his linemates or his diminished role, he's just not the same player anymore
Brown and Lewis on the same line is crazy pills. Maybe Sutter is just cutting his losses because there is no way that line will score. We're lucky if they can complete a tape to tape pass in the offensive zone and then get a shot on net. I can deal with Lewis, but Brown is terrible right now. Falling all over the place, bumbling passes and refusing to hit. He's a black hole for offense. It's rough to watch, especially knowing what he used to be capable of.
we're getting quite OT now. Please move the Brown et. al. discussion to the roster thread.

What are everyone's thoughts on how Luke Schenn has looked so far?
IMO, he makes a good first pass, skates fairly well and does a good job on the PK. But he seems to have quite a bit of trouble reading plays in the defensive zone. Doesn't contribute much offensively.
Good third-pairing guy, I guess.
Could you split it off in to a Brown thread. We have some good flow going here. Not kingsfan good, but good
