Style of play. LA slows the game down, dictates pace, clogs the neutral zone, dominates possession, etc. where as Philly (and most of the East cost) plays a more up tempo run and gun game. Vinny still has the same skills, shot, and vision but his 35 year old legs aren't what they used to be. So its the difference in playing in a system that masks his weakness rather than exposing it.

It's not even a system that masks weaknesses. It's about a system and players who are responsible and typically are on a spot on the ice where they're supposed to be. I get what you're saying though. The game is much easier when you have puck support from your teammates and not seeing them way up ice hoping you can hit them with a long pass while you're being pressured by 2 defenders.

Sorry, calling BS on this. Maybe that'd explain a few less shifts a game but if you use the guideline of a 40 second shift, which seems standard for forwards, he's playing nearly seven more shifts a game in LA at even strength. That's a lot more ice. The tempo isn't slowed down that much between the West and East either, I think that's blown out of proportion.

Additionally, the West is more physical, that takes a toll too on a 35 year old.

Well, he also isn't being counted on to be a superstar center carrying the mail every time on the ice. I think the possession players on the Kings mask Vinny's weaknesses for sure

I would like Vinny to play with King and Lewis

And that's what the best GM's in the league understand. It's about the FIT, not just plugging in a player. Edmonton is a good example of this.

Well VL's assist total won't climb for sure.

I kept hoping against hope that Vinny would be the secret weapon that propelled one of our bottom sixers to glory  Mersch, King, Brown, Lewis, any one of them. Would have been beyond hilarious...but instead he's scoring himself so whatever!

I like how the goalposts keep being moved by our trade winner friends. At first Vinny was trash that would spend all the time in the press box here in LA. Now it's that his numbers aren't sustainable. What will it be next week?!?!

Another TB fan here giving big congrats to the Kings for freeing VL from Philly and giving him one more shot at glory. Here's hoping our boy maintains his success for the rest of the season and can help with a playoff push.

"he's not even a REAL 2C"

Cheers guys. I'm glad the TB fans still wish him well, didn't know what kind of terms he left on, but I know we feel the same way about our Cup players going elsewhere too. Hope he can keep it up too not just for us but for his sake, it's a great way for him to finish writing his story!

Not crazy. The way Flyers fans talked about him you'd think he wouldn't be good enough for the ECHL.

What I find funny is the argument that his good powerplay numbers are unsustainable but the "bad" ES numbers are normal.

F the Flyers fans. Why not just be happy for the guy? It didn't work out in Philly, that happens. It's not like he burned your house down and **** on the ashes.

Ditto with Columbus fans with Carter

Not so much for me on that one. Carter did express he wasn't happy to be there and did ask to get traded out of there I think. He wasn't exactly a model citizen in Columbus.

VL was a healthy scratch repeatedly this year and seen the coach that was the biggest reason he signed in Philly get fired three games into his contract and still acted like a pro. Even on his exit he was a pro and is walking away from millions to allow the trade to happen. Someone should tell those Flyers fans he did them a solid there. If he wanted to he could have sat on his ass eating popcorn and waiting for a buy out.

Maybe he'll just go rogue ****** and not retire this off-season and saddle the Flyers with $2.25 million in dead cap space. He'll pull the flea flicker of retirements.

just out of curiosity, if he retires, is he able to then re-sign a lower priced contract with that same team? how's that loophole supposed to work? just curious if there's even a possibility on having him play next year with us.
