But still, do you draft erasers that high up? However, thanks for answer.

He was drafted at a time where people still thought defencemen like him were the best players to play defence in the NHL. Only later did people realise not having the puck is a bad thing

Schenn is a serviceable (but below average) second pairing D in a pinch, but he's a solid 3rd pairing guy and bargain at half price. He'll do well in LA, particularly if paired with a vet PMD.

What would happen to the cap if VL concluded he couldn't beat out anyone for playing time -- was destined for the press box and decided to retire straightaway? I know it seems highly unlikely but would the Kings be off the hook for his cap this year?

I would pay good money just to see the ensuing **** storm on the mainboards if that ever happened.

Yeah, I thought Vinny could have easily won the Conn that year but Richards just had all those game winning goals. He played great. Khabi did as well. It was pretty close in my eyes

I'm going to be and optimist, take the longshot and say he refinds his desire and say he refinds his game.

I agree, Lombardi took Vinny as a favor for Hexy. It saved Philly from potentially having a lot of dead cap space.

Vinny I think is done, as a productive NHL player.

I would be pretty surprised if this was the case. The Kings were already strapped for cap room, and at the top of the standings. They don't have the assets or flexibility to be doing 'favors.' If it was all about Schen for Deano, he had 6 weeks to get Hextall to back off. I think he took him because he wanted him.

If Vinny retires, no one takes on any dead cap space. He signed his contract at 33.

I understand the apprehension with Schenn but he seems like the perfect kind of dman for our team right now, a young physical rhd. I think our system is the type that will really help his strengths and hide some of his weaknesses.

As for VL, I'd be happy if he just ate up some minutes and wasnt a liability on the 4th lime.

Like McBain

I think a McBain-Schenn bottom pairing could be outstanding for us.

Ehrhoff should be the odd man out.

Pearson/Lucic-Kopitar-Gaborik
Lucic/Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
King-Lecavallier-Brown
Mersch-Shore-Lewis
Nolan,Andy

Mcnabb-Doughty
Martinez-Muzzin
Erhoff-Schenn
Forbort, Mcbain

Quick
Enroth

Pretty stacked i like it !

I have high confidence in our staff when it comes to defensemen. McBain was on the scrap heap for cripesakes and he's performed adequately. So was Schultz and he contributed valuable ice time in 2014. Is Schenn in worse condition currently than those guys were prior to being signed by the Kings? I'm thinking not.

If Lecavalier works out, Shore will be slotted correctly. Mersch will be sent back down, and Andreoff and Nolan will take turns being a winger on the 4th line.

With Schenn's arrival, Forbort will likely be sent down.

This team is starting to have a lean and hungry look. Even if Lacavalier doesn't perform as hoped, I believe he will provide additional veteran leadership in the room. Knowing how these things have worked out for Dean, Vinny will probably score two or three big, timely goals in the playoffs.

Flyers fan here. Scouting report on Weal?

And I haven't read much of this thread, so I don't know if any other Flyers fans have stopped by. But I will tell, don't listen to the main board idiots who love to hate on Schenn, he isn't nearly as bad as people like to make it seem. He isn't spectacular, but he is a solid bottom pairing defenseman, and hell he can even be a low end #4. A big factor is who he is paired with, he can't carry a pairing, and his play is really dependant on who he plays with. He needs to play with someone who is skilled enough to start most of the breakouts, because if Schenn is relied upon to start the movement of the puck up the ice repeatedly, bad things happen. To be honest, he has played pretty well outside of the time he was paired with Meszaros a couple years ago (who is awful by the way). He can only play the right side, and is somewhat prone to some brain cramps defensively, but they're pretty few and far between. He's pretty physical, and surprisingly has a somewhat decent outlet pass. Offensively he isn't very good, he often panics with the puck on his stick at the blue line. Although he actually is pretty good at getting pucks through on net. His foot speed can be a problem, but it isn't awful. Below average, sure. In all, I was a fan of Schenn, moreso than most on the Flyers board.

Lecavalier is a different animal. If any of you think he can be relied upon to be a 4C let alone a 3C, you're in for a rude surprise. He is awful. Pitiful, like worst player on the NHL bad. And I'm not exaggerating. He provides NOTHING. If anything, he's a detriment to the team when on the ice, us flyers fans have joked we'd rather play short handed than have Vinny on the ice. He hasn't played in months, and the last game he played he played about 4 minutes (some PP), and was the main reason for two goals against, along with almost decapitating Brayden Schenn.

Sorry for any spelling mistakes I'm on my phone

I thinking that won't happen. As part of the deal my guess would be he signed saying he was leaving already. Otherwise the deal wouldn't have been done.

I don't think the NHL would allow that, considering it a guarantee made outside of the confines of the player contract that affects the player's contracted compensation. Those sorts of things are verboten in the CBA.

I have no reason to believe Vinny won't retire, just pointing out I don't think any sort of binding guarantee to retire would be allowed. If Vinny for some reason changed his mind I don't think the Kings would have CBA grounds to challenge.

Lecavalier gonna go full ****ing HAM.

Maybe a goalie that he signed to an extension before he ever played a game for the Kings would be worse. Not doing the Richards thing.

Still surprises me that people think Cloutier was a mistake, or had any impact on the Kings in a negative way.

To me it's an impossibility that Vinny can be any worse than Richards was in 2014, the Kings were able to overcome that defensive disaster and win a cup. I think a third line of King-Vinny-Brown can be effective, and even if he does fall flat, we have the depth to fill in.

It always comes back to Richards, doesn't it? :)
