It would’ve been nice if he didn’t take the year to transfer. It was in that year it became clear that this was the thing to do. But that would’ve happened anyways.
The Flyers can petition the NHL to have it this year. Which means they will and it will be respectfully denied.I thought it was the draft after his rights expire, which I thought would make the pick next year. Friedman said it was this year.
Let's not quibble about this. CF and the Flyers blew the 2023 draft 2 years prior making ridiculous trades and then this year when CF was doing his best Jim Carey imitation..."so you are saying I have a chance" instead of doing what Chicago didIt would’ve been nice if he didn’t take the year to transfer. I don’t know what one has to do with the other here. The Flyers don’t control when they get the pick. Other than they knew it would be there and it emboldened Fletcher to trade more picks.Let's not quibble about this. He didn't pray. Much worse in fact he thought this team would compete.A team definitely has control over when they draft. I would’ve turned over as much of the roster as I could’ve in the off season to get a shot in the top 3. What did Fletcher do? He prayed that the Flyers would compete
So that will be four picks in the first two rounds in 24. Hopefully it's deeper than expected
do you even hear yourself talk of how crazy this sounds? you get top 3 pick, that's great but what other players are carrying this team? second, third, fourth line, 1st, 2nd, 3rd pair defenseman and goaltending? are you expecting a top 3 player with no secondary scoring, no defense and no goaltending to just carry a team for a cup?A team definitely has control over when they draft. As usual the point goes whoosh over your head. You fail over and over again to grasp that it’s fairly easy for good GMs to acquire depth at low cost and near impossible to acquire stars without finishing bottom 3. No one is saying drafting Bedard makes us cup contenders instantly but it gives the team a foundation on which to begin building. Focusing on acquiring secondary talent first is what loser organizations do.do you even hear yourself talk of how crazy this sounds? you get top 3 pick, that's great but what other players are carrying this team? second, third, fourth line, 1st, 2nd, 3rd pair defenseman and goaltending? are you expecting a top 3 player with no secondary scoring, no defense and no goaltending to just carry a team for a cup?

are you really saying that getting stars in later rounds dont exist? if you are expecting the organization to waste years and years of waiting for lottery balls to go top 3 then that's crazy because you can draft busts in the top 5 but for some reason you believe that doesnt exist either, only bad coaches. As usual the point goes whoosh over your head. you are acting bedard is a guaranee if we got the worst record, explain jvr and kane draft then? are you really that out of touch to believe nhl is rigging this draft for certain teams?
I oppose this sentence! HeheDon't mind him, he just opposes every single method of team building.

Water under the bridge, if you want to whine, go back to Holmgren after the Carter/Richards trades, Kimmo would have garnered a huge haul, etc. That was when they should have rebuilt. They had a core of top picks, stay bad for two years, pick up 2-3 1st rd picks and some prospects trading veterans before their value eroded, etc.
Holmgren/Clarke were the disease that killed the Flyer tree, Hextall did a half-assed rebuild (should have traded Voracek and Simmonds as well), then blew half of his 8 first rd picks. Fletcher just applied the coup de grace at the bequest of Holmgren. It takes a village of idiots . . .
So if you're gonna whine, do it right.
Torts was the first to declare "the Emperor has no clothes" and finally got Comcast to accept the need to rebuild. By making it clear to the media that no easy short-term fix would clean up this mess, he doomed CF and made the advisors irrelevant and cleared the path for Hilferty and Briere to commit to a long-term rebuild.
Torts is absolutely responsible for making ownership snap out of their fantasy that this could be a quick fix.
Dave Scott, as recently as last Spring, was still talking like they could turn it around fast and even make the playoffs this season.
Chuck, who was hired by Scott expressly to win not rebuild, tried to appease Scott, even while admitting in press conferences that the only way the Flyers were going to get the talent they need was through the draft and youth.
That was a man trying to save his job and humor his boss.
John Tortorella is the bluntest man in hockey. He comes in and tells it like it is, whether anyone wants to hear it or not. And he has the cachet to do so.
Ownership respects him, and accepts reality: This is a rebuilding process that's going to take some time.
Hilferty takes over for Dave Scott with no illusions. Which is a big positive.
Yeah, because a CEO is going to come in and publicly insult people who have been a huge part of an organization's history.Hilferty believes the advisors are "foundational titans" who should always be here and is building the structure backwards in the image of the Washington Football Team. It ain't a positive.
I also like how Torts handles the players.
There's been a "country club" atmosphere around the Flyers for a long time, and I think b/c players were able to "back channel" through the advisors and maybe other people to the point where they blew off HCs. "We are family" went a bit too far. AV tried to blow it up, then brought in his group of favorites to replace the players he thought defied him.
Torts is an equal opportunity "in your face" coach. He's benched practically everyone this season, and given everyone a chance to work their way out of the dog house - compare to AV, once in his doghouse, the only exit was out of town. And this team has desperately needed "tough love."
When Torts talks about subtraction first, it's about one thing - you play the game the right way (fore check, back check, play every shift, etc). He'd have loved G, he's not opposed to skill, he just won't let skilled players half ass it on defense. A simple mantra, lose games because the other team has more talent, that's on the FO to get more talent. Lose games b/c the other team outworks you and is more disciplined, that's on the players.
