I don’t want to think about what life would be like if they actually would have taken Cutter over Cooley.
Because that wouldn't have happened. They took Cutter over Kasper and Savoie, and that's looking like the right move.

It was alluded to at the time that the Flyers had Gauthier 3rd. And that some teams did not have Cooley as the highest ranked NTDP player. With how giddy the Flyers were about telegraphing this pick, it’s not exactly a conspiracy theory.

Also, this is as ridiculous a comment as, “They signed Hayes over doing nothing.” I’m glad you chose 2 random slightly disappointing picks — that none of us wanted — and paint them as the only alternative. It’s already a dishonest argument. As far as I’m aware, any player is available. We were screaming for a trade down. I could throw it back at you that they could’ve taken Ostlund + Hutson — right move still? I already know your response: maybe they couldn’t trade down. They weren’t going to, so who knows? You don’t and don’t say you do.

As I said elsewhere, Gauthier is having the best year possible to make me believe he is on track for what I believed him to be. That’s not a bad thing at all. But please do parse that statement out.

You can scream for a trade down, but those aren't as easy as in EA.
Howie is a brilliant draft day trader and he's been caught by a lack of trade partners.

To trade down, you need someone in love with the player where you pick.
Some years you find a buyer, some years you're Michael in the bathroom holding his junk if the gun ain't there.

Thursday, Aaron Huglen and Connor Kurth made sure history didn't repeat, and the Gophers – especially Bryce Brodzinski — emphatically poured it on in the third period.
Huglen tied the score, and Kurth put Minnesota ahead for good late in the second period as the Gophers, this time the No. 1 overall NCAA seed, defeated the Golden Griffins 9-2 in front of a sellout crowd of 5,061. Minnesota scored two power-play goals early in the third on a major penalty by No. 16 seed Canisius. And Brodzinski had a third-period hat trick as the Gophers scored six goals in the final period.
"That's gotta be the closest 9-2 game I've ever seen,'' Gophers coach Bob Motzko said. "… We stuck to our game plan and kept getting pucks deep. We had to grind tonight.''

"Rosen is also the only possible use of the pick traded for Risto" type logic

Maybe because they know that he is a bad Dman who will 100% play over superior Dmen just like Hagg of years past. Or Yandle. Or...
neither of us have nay idea whether he is good or bad if he makes it to the NHL level. He has a had a good AHL year by all accounts. He can turn into a viable #6 and he would still get the usual hate.

Oh no, GMing takes creativity and bargaining. How hard. God forbid Fletcher suffer by having to do some form of work for the first time in his pampered and pathetic life.

ECAC is considered an inferior college league, some sites have them below the CHL in terms of scoring equivalcy.

I never watched Cutter play. Still can’t get past my bitterness and hatred for Boston Colleg so I won’t watch them.
I am older but I still believe that these kids should stay in school for as long as they can. Get a education, hang out with your friends and develop your game. You aren’t playing against 16 and 17 year old kids every night, so for me there is nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with playing junior hockey either. Just feel staying in school is a win/win situation IMO

Cutter returning to school. I do not like this at all. Between him and O'brien we are stocking back up on 2nd round picks.
They are in different situations. I don't have any issues with Gauthier taking an extra year of development rather than being forced into the top 6 of the Flyers as proof of rebuilding progress. His first D+1 year was good and he can work further on rounding out his game, especially as a C.

There’s been better players than Gauthier that have stayed for their second year in the NCAA. So it’s not an issue he’s returning, in fact it’s likely a positive. He wasn’t ready for the NHL & by going back that removes whatever temptation might have existed next year by this organization.

From a player perspective, some of these guys don’t really want to spend much time in the AHL. They rather be in college or elsewhere biding their time. They rather player elsewhere & then make that more straightforward jump to the NHL.

When would we get draft-pick compensation for JOB if he doesn't sign - is that this summer or next? And it's a second-rounder?
