Because it's a 10 game sample (I see you cut out 2 scoreless games prior) and you'll get fluctuations? In that 12 game span, he only has 4 assists at 5v5, and 3 of them are secondaries. Let's not act like that's a light turning on.

His skill-set and stats -- to everyone but the Flyers -- scream out: SUPPORT WINGER. He doesn't drive play; he's mediocre (I'd certainly say indecisive) defensively; he doesn't generate chances for his linemates; and for someone purported to be a power forward, there's not much on-puck/off-puck physicality, with him preferring to float in space. He should go back to school for another year, but he won't, so the Flyers can get this top 6 center charade up and running as quickly as possible.

The stat card screams "Matt Carle as a Forward." You know...Mr Hobey Baker whose college dominance did not translate. Potentially a weird case where the player has good utility in particular situations and usage. Complimentary player. As you said, support winger.

Before anyone freaks, I do understand that's what he is right now. That can change. He can learn, he can adapt. He just better start figuring that out before the Flyers get their hands on him. Tippett had the skillset before he came here, he just had to decide to use it more; had he come up with the Flyers it's very doubtful he even develops that skillset. Gauthier needs to get as advanced as he can in college to overcome the Flyers Degradation Process. The omens are bad.

The problem is that they've been working
Maybe he's just a very good shooter, they do work at the NHL level for the top snipers.
A quick release and the accuracy to hit the upper corners (forcing goalies to guard the entire net) works in the NHL.

Caufield as a freshman 36g 19-17 36 (Jan b'day)
Gauthier as a freshman 31g 16-21 37 (Jan b'day)

No, it wasn't "Mr. know it all." He had a good season with the Phantoms the year before,
46g 16-10 26 at ES, Sh% was elevated at 21%, but 8-10 18 shooting 10% isn't bad
Foerster this year
56g 11-11 22 at ES shooting 13.3%

Now did they have to guarantee the second season, probably not.
His upside was bottom six, maybe that physical fourth liner that can actually score goals.

Why he fell so far this season? Maybe he was an illusion, more likely there's an injury that hasn't been reported.
An injury? That's no excuse.

Right?

I like that matching Caulfield, a player that Chuck passed over with a pick in the teens even after trading back once, is now a benchmark of success for a player Chuck picked at #5.
I mean, regardless of Chuck's evaluation ineptitude. Mimicking a high end prospect that is scoring at greater than .5 goals per game in the NHL before the age of 22, before sustaining an injury, is pretty reasonable to be happy about. It doesn't matter where they were drafted for the sake of comparing season statistics.

Whether it's Gauthier or any other prospect, give more weight to the opinions with specificity and very little to the POINTS posts. I don't have either to be clear. I know nothing.

But when we're going to start discussing 2019 Wisconsin, that's up my wheelhouse. I know it's tempting to see Turcotte, Holloway, and K'Andre Miller then assume it was a stacked team. That program was an absolute mess. It was the year after that Wisconsin was actually good. This wasn't a mid-2010s Brandon situation.
