No, it wasn't "Mr. know it all." He had a good season with the Phantoms the year before,
46g 16-10 26 at ES, Sh% was elevated at 21%, but 8-10 18 shooting 10% isn't bad
Foerster this year
56g 11-11 22 at ES shooting 13.3%

Now did they have to guarantee the second season, probably not.
His upside was bottom six, maybe that physical fourth liner that can actually score goals.

Why he fell so far this season? Maybe he was an illusion, more likely there's an injury that hasn't been rep

We missed celebrating Hayden Hodgson's 27th birthday on Thursday. :bday:

Between this year and next, the lucky guy is getting paid $1,000,000 by the Flyers to play for the Phantoms, where he has 8 points in 40 games this season.

Hayden Hodgson signed a 2 year, $1,600,000 contract with the Philadelphia Flyers on Aug. 29, 2022.

MINIMUM GUARANTEED SALARY: 2022-23: $200,000
Don't worry we are paying Adam Brooks 1.1 mil guar for 2 seasons as well .

He did not fall. This has always been him. He had one season with an elevated sh%, and you are falling for it. He’s not a good player.

Anything less than $1.25M doesn't matter, b/c you can stash the contract in the AHL.
It's only money in that case. Comcast has lots of money.

It's actually a contract slot, which is more important. Now admittedly, 1 slot should not be a problem on a team with a decent GM, but that is not us.

I think when they see someone like Hodgson they immediately think Mike Knuble, who blossomed after about 6 years in the NHL. However, not everyone is Mike Knuble......

You have to use some contract slots to add top AHL veterans.
Brooks and Marody fit that, Connauton at 32, not so much.
And time to move on from O'Reilly, Fitzpatrick, et al.

BC plays in Hockey East tournament tonight.
Could be the end of Gauthier's season.

Forgot to post this. My bad if someone did already.

I'm confused by how his rel xGF and rel xGA can be that poor based on his other metrics.

Something doesn't seem right.

He's great at transitions and getting shots, but yet if he weren't the luckiest offensive player in the world his mediocre team would be getting abused more than normal while he's on the ice?

One is an individual stat one is a team stat. It's not a 1:1 relationship.

Think there's been some growing pains as both a freshman and at center.
first 20g 13-9 22 -5
last 10g 3-9 12 +4

would like to see a breakdown, whether he's trying to focus more on being a playmaker at center.
He's not playing on a very talented team.

I get that. But you think the metrics jive? I don’t. Something is wrong somewhere.
Not necessarily, these metrics are descriptive rather than predictive - it’s not that they have to jive, but they’re describing what’s already happened. Describing what’s happened to fit those puzzle pieces together, considering outliers, is done via context. I haven’t watched a Cutter Gauthier game, so I don’t have the context behind how his game is played to back up the statistics.

Without ever watching a highlight video, looking up a statistical profile (besides seeing the one you referenced), seeing a game of his, or knowing what school he goes to - here is my summation of his gameplay based on that one specific profile listed:

Cutter works in space, not against the boards. His positioning in the OZ and DZ is situated just outside the faceoff dots (low danger). He will primarily work the edges looking for holes or gaps allowing for entry - the gaps aren’t used for playmaking, rather shooting. His teammates are reliant on gathering the puck afterwards which is when he moves towards the slot or a higher danger zone once space opens up. This would specifically be the case if the puck ended up behind the net where he moves to the sides of the goal post (similar to JVR). In that slot area he can pass to an incoming teammate or he will likely shoot the puck there.
Keep in mind, his offense game seems to be run via the perimeter. A database of low danger shots mixed sprinkled with the occasional breakaway shot + HDZ goal shows an analytical profile that’s quite easy to beat.

He might be a decent interior player, but he needs that space to be created for him. Consistent low danger output and getting beat on the other end, in the interior, shows that he needs a player to help get him space because he doesn’t play on the boards much, doesn’t do a ton of high danger passing, and really seems to be in his element when in a position to shoot - specifically from just outside the FO dot or in the slot.

This is not to say he’s bad or anything. Just what I see in that profile. For someone who actually knows about Gauthier, please let me know if I’m wrong.

I'm still interested in why his production has shifted from goal scoring to assists the last ten games.
Until we get some scouting reports, or see him in a couple weeks, we won't know.
I mean he just turned 19, he moved from LW to Center, maybe we should expect some growing pains?

I don't think it's surprising for a perimeter player to suddenly go cold at goal scoring, nor is it mysterious.

Because it's a 10 game sample (I see you cut out 2 scoreless games prior) and you'll get fluctuations? In that 12 game span, he only has 4 assists at 5v5, and 3 of them are secondaries. Let's not act like that's a light turning on.

His skill-set and stats -- to everyone but the Flyers -- scream out: SUPPORT WINGER. He doesn't drive play; he's mediocre (I'd certainly say indecisive) defensively; he doesn't generate chances for his linemates; and for someone purported to be a power forward, there's not much on-puck/off-puck physicality, with him preferring to float in space. He should go back to school for another year, but he won't, so the Flyers can get this top 6 center charade up and running as quickly as possible.
