Why do you say he has a slim chance at becoming as good as Carter? What don't you like about his game that you believe he will not become a 60 pts 25-30 goal every year player?

Jeff Carter has scored over 400 goals and over 800 points..with another 47 Playoff goals and 2 Cups.

Gauthier is not as good of a prospect as Carter was and the odds of him having a comparable career are, again, very slim. Just because the Flyers of all teams drafted him 5th overall, doesn't make him an elite prospect.

I doubt he'd match Carter's longevity, few players, even those picked in the top 5, are likely to do so.
But Carter was never an elite player. Inconsistent in his prime, probably due to his training habits (elbow bends).

I enjoy reading this Flahr prospect article just to reaffirm that "professionals" are cliche-vomitous dullards. He spends thousands of words and somehow never talks about technique, details, nuances. If you're wondering why he and his friendo are such bad draft and NHL talent evaluators, you don't have to overthink it. They sure aren't. Highlights!

GAUTHIER:
  • Speaking of the WJC....."But Cutter at times, he showed what he can do physically as far as dominance, when he’s using his speed, size and strength, and obviously, he’s got the great shot." I must've missed that dominance part?
  • Is he pro ready? "I think Cutter is really driven, really focused, and his conditioning (results) are great." -- thank god his conditioning results are great

FOERSTER:
  • 4 paragraphs talking about his shot in one way or another, with a bonus shoutout to defensive boards work
  • "Eventually, we talked to him (and said), 'With the way you shoot the puck, just hit the net.'” -- riveting!
  • There's a really intelligent playmaker in there, but heaven forbid the team see that. I'm not sure they've ever mentioned anything but his shot

LYCKSELL:
  • "He has things to learn as far as the differences in the (North American) game. He wants to play a possession game and turn back with the puck at times. It was a habit that he had to break" -- I am CRYING; yes, please break that possession game habit
  • "Right now with (Joel) Farabee, JvR, and Hayesy on left wing, and Deslauriers for the fourth line, he’s got to wait for — I don’t want to say you want an injury." -- @Beef Invictus , Deslauriers will NOT block prospects

ZAMULA:
  • "I think he was one of those guys that Torts just kind of gravitated towards as camp went on. I don’t think he knew who he was. And then the game on the Island where he blocked shots and he did a bunch of things that really — I don’t know why — but just kind of caught his eye."

KAPLAN:
  • "Part of his game is being aggressive, being physical, being hard to go against. But he’s big and strong, and every time he hit, he seemed to get a penalty, and every scrum he got in, he was getting a penalty. [....] You want to be big and physical and heavy, but you can’t hurt your team. And I think the coaches worked with him on that." -- incisive!
  • Nothing about passing, or transition, or any real skills; it was legit entirely about penalties

He finally said the quiet part out loud. There's no more reading between the lines or drawing conclusions. He literally f***ing said they try to coach puck possession out of their prospects.

I don't want any of the usual suspects to ever say their developmental process isn't a problem or disagree when anyone says the people in charge don't understand hockey 101 of the modern NHL. This is so damning toward everyone involved in roster construction. It should be shouted from the rooftops and shared every second of every day on every platform until everyone is fired.

It's 9-10ths of the law, for goodness' sake!

M3gan is nowhere near as frightening as this. :scared:

More sunshine first thing in the morning.

Fifty years of watching the team through good and bad but what do I know?

The organization today is in a lot better shape than it was in the past and should only improve.

It's encouraging that while "fans" like you continue to bash any move they make, there are more posters starting to praise the things the club is doing - both on and off the ice.

As Thumper's father said, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say nothing at all."
It’s nice knowing there are a few people on this board who see the progress the team is making & that the organization is in a much better place than the doom & gloom hatemongers portray.

I don't think people are hate mongers (who really wants to root for their team to lose?). I just think they are realists. All GMs will make a bad decision (pick, signing, trade) every now and then. It is just that the current Flyers management is so unbelievably consistent at it that makes it hard to like the team they have constructed together....

You've been saying this for years and youve ended up wrong every time.

You told us that if the team was in its current position as of now, you would be calling for firing management. Yet you're more devoted to these failures than ever. Why did you lie?

Bingo.

I don't know how anyone looks at this mess and thinks "the architects of this are great!"

Of course there are somehow still DC fans who will defend Snyder, so I guess every fanbase has delusional folks.

What progress relative to the actual goal of competing for a Stanley Cup? I don't think anyone wants the youth to do badly. I'm happy we have all these young guys that are contributing and "competitive" night to night. I like a lot of our young guys, including a few still not with the big club. I actually like Torts (I know that's not popular around here). How are we any closer now to competing for a Stanley Cup than we were at any time in the last few years?

There is no high-end talent on the team or in the pipeline. Nobody is arguing that we don't have quality support pieces. When has a team been a contender without high-end talent? It sure seems to me that we are still in the worst possible place to get high end talent - in the mushy middle, and destined to stay there. And happy about it. That's why we're all miserable.

That's not even getting into our awful salary cap situation, lack of draft assets, and mess of a front office situation.

There are some good things going on. Denying that is not realism.

Anyway, I think the Flyers are building a good young nucleus:

More work to do, considerably more, but progress has been made and they are entertaining to watch.

Does anyone know why Desnoyers is not playing tonight? He finished the previous game. Hopefully he is only under the weather. With the Flyers you always have to wonder if he is being benched so a veteran slug can get some minutes. This is very unlikely, but it is what the Flyers management has trained us to think.

The possession game? One thing I hate is when players get too cute, get stripped or a pass stolen b/c they think they're still in junior hockey (or European ice). It's one thing to try and make a play, quite another to be indecisive and just skate around with the puck or force it into a crowd or across ice without seeing the defenders.

I mean when you're on a 2 on 1, and the defender is obviously taking the pass away, and you force a pass anyway instead of taking a 10' shot - grrrrr!

Or you cycle the puck and hold it until a defender can get to you and knock you down.

It's one thing if you're talking crisp passes onto sticks where you see the ice and are decisive and accurate, quite another when you're just skating with the puck like a chicken with its head cut off.

Much better to just give it to the other team on a dump or fail to score from the perimeter.

This mindset has served the Flyers so well as they sit dead in the water for years on end.

Do not claim you don't defend every aspect of management if you plan on defending every aspect of management.
