This is not based on any information.......it's more of - it will never happen but "What if"

Filip Mesar has been a healthy scratch for the Laval Rocket (the Habs' AHL team) for the first 2 games of the season.
Most of the talk is that he needs ice time and should return to the OHL.

What if the Habs pressure Kitchener to trade Mesar because he needs a change of scenery and they request that he be traded to the Petes so that he can play on a line with his future Hab teammate, Owen Beck?!

Then Oke could deal Beck and Mesar as a package at the deadline after they light it up for the Petes in the first half, leading the Petes to first place in the East.

“Lockhart slashed one of them and then there was a scrap”

Pretty sure having the entire Pete’s team out there and the 4 Bulldogs players that were on the ice isn’t the Bulldogs starting the whole fiasco. Drobac was collecting his things off the net when he turned around and saw his 3 teammates outnumbered and jumped in. When there are 10-15 guys on 4….you can bet damn well there are guys going to step in and help their teammates. And when things happen that quick, and guys have already left the bench, what’s McKee going to do?
They were on the ice because they scored the OT winner. That’s kinda how that works

The bulldogs should have been leaving the ice, not trying to get Involved in the Petes OTW celebration

The Petes were off the bench celebrating the win as all teams do in a game when they win Noah Roberts slashed Connor Lockhart first and Lockhart slashed him back in retaliation. Xhekaj came off the bench to go after Connor starting the fiasco. From what I saw only a small group were initially involved in the ruckus and then it escalated. At one point their were four Bulldogs on Lockhart.

My bad. Didn’t realize slashing a player on the opposing team was a standard OTW celly.
Noah Roberts started it by slashing Connor Lockhart. Lockhart slashed him in retaliation. Then Florian Xhekaj came of the bench to go after Connor. A Brantford player started it with the initial slash and another Bulldogs player escalated by coming of the bench.

The only players that will be suspended from the Petes are Konnor Smith and Brayden Velliaris. Smith likely will get five games and Velliaris two. Connor Lockhart did not get a game misconduct and Liam Sztuska only received two minor penalties and will likely not be suspended. Florian Xhekaj will likely receive ten games as he was the first to come of the bench and just returned from a suspension. I expect both coaches to be suspended and Jay McKee may receive a lengthily suspension as his team started the whole fiasco.
I fail to see why Petes coach Rob Wilson would be suspended as his team was on the ice to celebrate the winning goal as all teams do what happened after that was a totally different animal.

Yep. I understand why the Bulldogs players came off the bench, but if they stayed on the bench it would have settled quickly, just like how a lot of games end (pushing/shoving, refs calm it down).

I was watching the game on TV. When did Konnor Smith and Brayden Velliaris leave the bench? I would have to assume it was to join the celebration of the winning goal however they were both given game misconducts for leaving the bench. Was it because instead of celebrating the winning goal they got involved in the melee (no pun intended). I assume Xhekaj was the first player to leave the bench but did they leave at the same time (likely to join the celebration) which could leave Rob subject to a suspension if they were deemed leaving the bench to join the action on the ice.

I feel that there is a lot of grey area in overtime when it comes to this rule. If we take the rule at face value then every player would technically be subject to a suspension because everyone leaves the bench when a game winning goal is scored. Now yes the only players that should directly be involved in any fighting or pushing and shoving are the three players on the ice when the goal is scored but it gets more interesting when the game winner is scored, players come flooding out and have to defend their teammates. I hope the league is a bit lenient here and doesn't ram out a bunch of suspensions and long term ones at that.

I am not think the suspensions to the Petes would be lengthly. Konnor Smith will likely receive four or five games for leaving the bench game misconduct and the second fight game misconduct. They are a minimum two games each and the leaving bench may be three games. Brayden Velliaris will likely get two games maybe three. I doubt Connor Lockhart will receive any games as his was the first fight and the slash was a minor penalty. Liam Sztuska also will likely not be suspended as he received on two minor penalties. The only player who could receive a lengthy suspensions is Florian Xhekaj who just returned from a suspension and started it all by leaving the bench to go after Lockhart.

I’m guessing you didn’t watch or closed your eyes at the end of the game?

Lockheart got cross checked into the net by the bulldogs player because he was pissy they lost. I’m guessing he likely goes to celebrate with his teammates if bulldog players don’t throw temper tantrums about losing.

If bulldogs weren’t sore losers then the brawl would’ve been avoided.

When I watched the video that was posted here my take on what happened were proven to be correct. After the winning goal was scored a line brawl broke out. Most of the Petes players who came out to celebrate the win did just that and were not involved in the melee. Then the remainder of the Bulldogs came off the bench and joined the fracas and that is when the Petes who were not involved became involved. It all started with Noah Roberts slashing Connor Lockhart, escalated when Florian Xhekaj left the bench to go after Lockhart and became a bench clearing brawl when the remainder of the Bulldogs left their bench and got involved. I have to think Jay McKee will receive a suspension out of this as he lost control of his bench first with Xhekaj’s actions and second when the rest of his players left the bench.

Yeah makes sense that the 1st in the East Division, 2nd in the Eastern Conference and 4th in the OHL Peterborough Petes are ranked 13th in the Power Rankings...
Ottawa won on a tough northern road trip and shut out a very good Sudbury team. I actually prefer the Petes stay out of the top ten rankings - better to be the underdog.

Petes are definitely outperforming expectations. Good coaching and the team seems to be working extremely hard. Good goaltending also helps
And it has mainly been Sztuska carrying the brunt of the load as Bowen has been sick. Again the goal is very simple for this first half. Stockpile as many wins as possible and help shape some of the young guys with good habits and then explore Beck, Smith etc trades.

The Petes were under estimated from the beginning. Nobody gave them much of chance to succeed because of the players that had graduated. The current edition of the Petes are a motivated group coming off their championship season. The players from last year are instilling that winning attitude into the new players. They are very strong at forward with Jax Dubois, Jonathan Melee, Chase Lefebvre, Sam McCue and Brayden McCallum stepping up to become the new offensive leaders. They have the two top face off players in Dubois and Owen Beck. On defence with Sam Mayer, Donovan McCoy and Konnor Smith they probably have the best top three defencemen in the East Division. First round draft pick, Carson Cameron is playing like a veteran and is being used in all situations. In goal Liam Sztuska has thrived in the starting role and they have great depth with Zach Bowen and Easton Rye being quality goaltenders. They also have a great coach in Rob Wlson who is among the best coaches in the league and likely the best coach the Petes have had since Dick Todd.
