In my opinion the referees favoured London the rest of the game because they trying to make up for calling the match penalty on Max McCue. If the referees wanted to fair in overtime maybe they would of called Michael Simpson for diving to even things up.

LkK was undisciplined. Refs didn't decide game. There were missed calls on both teams after the match penalty. ( LK exiting their zone n a trip )
It's usually never the deciding factor as players make more mistakes than refs but I get it sucks for some. Don't think I've ever used it as an e cuse and it ain't going to get any better lol.

I'm sure Beck has a "returning to junior from an NHL training camp" hangover.
Guys get so close to playing as a pro and then return to a temporary situation.
At worst Beck will be in the AHL next year so it's understandable that he's looking ahead.
Apparently the Habs directed him to focus on trying to be more dominant offensively.
This may explain why he seems to be forcing the issue offensively every time he touches the puck rather than reading the situation first.
He turned the puck over a few times at London's trying to make a move rather than passing to an open teammate or dumping the puck deep.

It's still early though - things will improve with more time practicing and playing with his linemates...of course with the number of penalties called last night he spent more time with the PP unit than his linemates.
He will want to have a strong 1st half to ensure a significant role with Canada at the WJC.

65 percent is dominant. Last season there was not a centre over 60 percent on face off wins. Last year Owen Beck with 58.6 percent and Tucker Robertson with 58.5 percent lead the league in face off win percentage. Robertson led the league in face of wins with 831.
Beck lead the league as a rookie the year before at 60.6%. Robertson was tops in FOW that year too.

Overall that was a good game, hard to complain with a 7-3 win. Liam Sztuska played amazing and is solidifying his hold on the starter role. Am interested to see if he goes 3 in a row tomorrow. Slipped a bit away from us in the second with some penalty trouble (we gotta start taking less) but the 4-0 lead really helped us. Great goal from Beck, beauty goal from McCallum on the breakaway, the big rig Konnor Smith with the snipe, what a rip from Melee and Purdeller was all over the ice tonight with 2G 1A as well as first star honours! Also congrats to Carson Cameron on scoring his first career OHL goal! Two fantastic and competitive games from the boys to start the 3 in 3 and looking forward to Saturday night at the PMC for round 2 and to hopefully take 5/6 points. Go Petes Go!

Who gets the start tonight?
Bowen has been ill and Rye was the BUG last night. So impressed by Sztuska - a well deserved rest for him tonight.

I imagine that Lockhart is back in tonight with Gauvreau coming out. It is a hard situation with 4 OAs but after winning an OHL championship together last year, they hopefully are supportive of each other and understand that Oke is trying to get the best return possible. Not much of an OA market at this point so that makes it challenging.

How about Cameron getting his 1st goal? Great composure and all the tools to make an impact at both ends of the ice.

Coach Wilson will need to ensure that the boys don’t come out all fat and sassy tonight after a convincing win last night. Florian Xhekaj will be back for the Bulldogs tonight.

Petes a bit lucky to get these two points but Sztuska gave them a chance to win. Bulldogs outworked us for a large part of the game though we outshot them. Bulldogs real chippy at the end when Petes came off the bench to celebrate. Some pushing and shoving led to Bulldogs coming off their bench and there were several scraps. The league has to figure out how to help the officials deal with those situations as they were clearly overwhelmed. Centre ice fight saw Smith pummel Roberts who has no business taking on The Big Rig.

Congrats to McCue on two goal game and to Lefebvre who set up the tying McCue goal and scored the winner in OT. Not sure if Beck left some of his game back in Montreal but he needs to find it. Too many sloppy miscues. Also we definitely missed Dubois tonight just about everywhere on the ice.

Great start to the season! Go Petes.

WHAT?!?!?
A bench clearing brawl in 2023 ?!?!???!!!
So, what exactly happened....did you go to a brawl on ice, and a hockey game broke out?!? Seriously though - what set this off? League office is about to get their popcorn ready and have a field day with this one....

What set it off is after Lefebvre scored , Lockhart was right in the crease and batted the puck in again for good measure and then he was cross checked into the crossbar by either Xjakaj or Roberts. Lockhart slashed one of them and there was a scrap. The Petes guys had already come on the ice to celebrate the win and when more pushing and shoving happened, the Bulldogs joined the dance.

I watched the coverage on my CHL subscription when I got home from the game-they do not show half of what went on -
I hope there is better video somewhere

The Brantford coach let his team off the bench after the ref motioned for them to stay on the bench. All the Bulldigs just skated passed the ref on the the way to the scrum.
I was SHOCKED !
I have not seen a coach do that since I was a youngster

Also Lockhart (poor thing) had 4 Bulldogs on him in the corner while Smith had his tilt at Centre ice -everyone was focused on Smith butLockhart was literally lying on the ice with 4 Bulldogs pummeling him

If Page got 5 games in the preseason and I can’t even imagine what the suspensions are going to be like from this event.

looking at the game sheet.......looks like Smith, Velliaris and Sztuska could be in for suspensions.

It will be unfortunate to lose these guys for some games, but this win and subsequent "brawl" will do so much to bond these guys together even tighter.
As a result, the young guys will play bigger and with more confidence.

The Petes are off to a great start, earning 9 out of a possible 12 points.
Another 3-in-3 coming up next week, including their first game of the year vs the Generals - welcome to the rivalry young guys.

Going back to the brawl -I am an older fan in my 50s and have been going to Petes games since i was a swaddled baby-my entire life.
I remember the brawls and especially the hallway fights with Oshawa-so I have seen this stuff before.

My 13 yr old nephew (plays rep) has never seen this -he was amazed.

That would have been somethin’

On the way home my nephew was checking the schedule because he wants to be there for the rematch-he asks me if I think it will be a sellout

Most likely gonna be without Smith, Lockhart and Sztuska for the school day game...
The only players that will be suspended from the Petes are Konnor Smith and Brayden Velliaris. Smith likely will get five games and Velliaris two. Connor Lockhart did not get a game misconduct and Liam Sztuska only received two minor penalties and will likely not be suspended. Florian Xhekaj will likely receive ten games as he was the first to come of the bench and just returned from a suspension. I expect both coaches to be suspended and Jay McKee may receive a lengthily suspension as his team started the whole fiasco.

The rematch never seems to happen. I remember the Oshawa and Peterborough brawls in the 1980s and the next game there were maybe a fight or two but the teams usually behaved themselves. I remember the night when Kris King ran Jeff Hackett from the Generals. Two Oshawa players game off the bench to get at King and the benches emptied. In my memory that was the last OHL bench clearing brawl to take place at the Peterborough Memorial Centre (there were lacrosse brawls after that) until last night.

“Lockhart slashed one of them and then there was a scrap”

Pretty sure having the entire Pete’s team out there and the 4 Bulldogs players that were on the ice isn’t the Bulldogs starting the whole fiasco. Drobac was collecting his things off the net when he turned around and saw his 3 teammates outnumbered and jumped in. When there are 10-15 guys on 4….you can bet damn well there are guys going to step in and help their teammates. And when things happen that quick, and guys have already left the bench, what’s McKee going to do?
