They also have recent draft pick Masen Johnston playing for U18 Petes who they are very high on. I think Sztuska will go.

The Rye family can’t be happy having Easton playing Jr.C right now…
I think he is only playing Junior C because Lakefield is the closet affiliate team and it is likely to get some playing time. They did it with Stevie Leskovar two years ago.

Who knows? The landscape could change dramatically. Missy is settling in about where I figured they’d be, around 3-4 in the East. Petes will tumble a bit and open the door for Ottawa. Ottawa has played a lot of the good western teams already so they have a few out of the way.

I don’t think Kingston is a serious threat. Their defence and goaltending is suspect and when they line up against up tempo teams, they tend to fold. They do have picks in hand so they could actually do something this year and be a player if they choose to. I think they are more likely to tinker a bit.

Is the West artificially better than the east based on perception or on ice results? Who knows? It is a little too early to tell.

the big problem is the impressive teams tend to be the ones that loaded up last year and are carrying that swagger into this season. Fine but most will sell. Are the teams we are pointing to as the true contenders that good? I really don’t see one team head and shoulders above right now. Even Kitchener is suspect. Half of their goals come from their top 4. Is that sustainable? Can a team have two 50+ goal scorers? If they expose a gap, can they truly fill it? They seem better this year than last, go figure.

It is a very odd season. Confusing is an understatement.

I really can’t see Ottawa sliding in there. Sudbury has to have the inside track on that.

I think if Ottawa does something, it is more likely to be with Zito coming home…or staying home So to speak considering he is chilling in Ottawa figuring out his next steps. Problem is I assume his conditional picks (3rd and 5th) are for him returning as an OA. I’m not sure Ottawa will go there.
Mississauga is also a possible destination for Sam Mayer if the Petes trade him. They have an open overage spot and probably want to add some experience on defence. He might have said that Ottawa and Sudbury are his preferred destinations but he is a team player and will likely go with in reason to where Peterborough can get the best return for him.

I bet they do right by him and try to send him to Ottawa if that’s where he wants to go.

Same thing they did with Simmer.

It would depend on what Ottawa offers. If they can get a their (Petes) 2nd and an other 3rd from Mississauga and Ottawa is only offering a 3rd and a 5th. I would think they would trade him to Mississauga. It it is a different situation than Michael Simpson as they do not have to trade him as he is one of their three overages. Simpson was one of five at the time of the trade.

and i’m sure even less happy this week once it was revealed that Rye didn’t get a championship ring…
Rye played NO GAMES for the Petes last season.......that is why he received a commemorative ring just like season ticket holders and billets who also supported the Petes last season but didn't play for them. I really hope that no one is making a big deal over this. The last thing this organization needs is flack over this after what they gave the city last season.

I agree. The OHL Championship was such an amazing achievement and one small issue should not taint it. The Peterborough Petes are a class organization and the current management has returned the Petes to the team they use to be. The championship run in my opinion is the Peterborough sports highlight of the decade so far.

and i wasn’t trying to suggest that they should be getting flack and frankly it doesn’t bother me either but was looking at it from his end and maybe it wasn’t a big deal to him either. probably wasn’t

Don’t forget Mayer’s first choice in Sudbury. By the way, they have the most draft capital… just saying.

One individual who has been often critical about the Petes posted it on social media and few commented and I know there was one repost. I don’t think it was as big as a deal this individual made it out to be.

It’s been a few months, and maybe I missed something in the French article; but I think Mayer said Ottawa & Sudbury without stating a favourite.

Sudbury already has quality OAs. Do you think they’d move off of McCallum for Mayer?
They should imo. Replacing a RW/C is probably easier and cheaper than an ‘04 LD that could be top pairing. The one place that it might ok to trade a 5-yr vet of one team is to the team with his younger brother.
