This team is going to score absolutely zero goals once Mayer and Beck are traded.
aside from those two there is absolutely no finish on this team. gotta have our best defensive game tomorrow against the Rangers

Is Melee hurt or sick? Anyway last night vs Sarnia it was one of those games where the Petes aren't sharp and an adequate effort by the opposing team is enough to beat the Petes. I do think that the Sting are well-coached similar to the Petes in terms of style. That's good news for the World Juniors as Sarnia's coach, Letang is the coach of Team Canada.

That was a game the Petes will want back though in their defense we got a point. On to Kitchener.

Last Friday night in Oshawa Melee took a puck to the mouth in warmup and lost a few teeth. Possibly back for the North Bay/Sudbury.

I agree. But that's just the way it is. Good goaltnding, good defence but no depth up front. Do you really think that Mayer will be traded? I am thinking not although I could see Smith being trsded.

They’d be dumb not to. Cash in on one of the best defenseman in his last season of junior eligibility.

Is it just me or is Smith quiet this year? I'm going to have to try and look more closely at his play because he's quiet! Sometimes that's good for a defenseman when you don't notice them lol. I assumed that his overall game would be better after NHL camp.

Hard game for him to play. He is not offensive. His defensive ability is best when he is physical, but when he is physical he gets penalties because of his height. He is a kid that if he gets there, his game is better at a pro level

That is great news Melee is back. McCallum 1 game suspension, Bowen in net, should be a good one at the AUD.

Mike Oke if you’re reading this please go spend a 5th or 6th on a forward. need some sort of offensive spark and a different look. gotta be someone underperforming that you can buy low on (‘05) and give more opportunity here.

Luke McNamara comes to mind as someone who needs a change of scenery. Ben Cormier as well. Both of those guys would cost more than a 5th/6th though

Outsider looking in who watched beck for the first time tonight, but he looks disinterested and looks like he doesn’t want to be in the league anymore. Although it might have just been an off night.

Number one, I am sure that Mike Oke does not watch this thread, Number two we are sellers this year not buyers. This team has over acheived so far this year due to good goaltending a decent defence and good coaching. The Petes lost a ton of players from their championship run last year so we should be prepared for some rocky times ahead. Making the playoffs will be an achievement.

Beck has turned it up a notch recently but I honestly don't think Beck knows just how good he is. Sometimes he goes out and turns it up a notch and he is the best player on the ice by a long shot. Other times he seems unsure and bobbles the puck a bit.

He is playing though on a defense-first team and he does well at it. My advice for the Petes is to coach Beck so that he plays the dialled-up version of himself more often.

If the Petes trade some of their veteran players they will either need to get players back in those trades or trade for players in other trades. The Petes only have 12 forwards on the roster and if they trade a forward they need to acquire another. They have eight defencemen on the team but will likely need to acquire a left defencemen partially if they deal both Sam Mayer and Konnor Smith.

Every shift that i see of Chase Lefebvre, I am more impressed.
Did he switch to left wing after the first period? According to the game sheet he only took five face offs today. I was not at the game today. I listened to first half on the radio and second I watched on TV so I did not see the first half of the game.

Strong finish to the weekend for the Petes. It wasn't pretty but in the end they outshot the Bulldogs 49 to 34, were 43-24 on faceoffs, 2/2 on PP and picked up the OT win. They still have the 3rd best winning % in the league and best in the East.

Three road games coming up next weekend as they head north for the first two.......North Bay (Thurs), Sudbury (Fri), Oshawa (Sun.).
This will be a good challenge. Hope they have a good week at practice and prepared get at least another 3/6 points - it will be emotional facing Lockhart.

good win tonight, and as @Bra Wavers said will be a big test next week in three tough arenas. I do have to say that the biggest development of the weekend may have came tonight as Zach Bowen finally got new Petes coloured equipment!! worth the wait, looks good!

He had the face mask on Friday but still was wearing the green and yellow pads and glove and blocker. Glad see he is now fully in maroon and white.

Petes deserved the win vs Brantford but early goals in first and second period made it a game. Brantford works hard and has some nice sharp passing around our net. Stuzka was instrumental.

The Petes came back in 2nd period with a vengeance. I sat in Family Zone and it was noisy! When Melee was hit from behind in third period and was down on the ice hurt there was no call and Bulldogs came down and scored. The booing of the refs was loud!

Very entertaining game - one play two Bulldogs both hit Lefebvre at same time and both Brantford guys broke their sticks at the exact same time on the play. Somehow we still lost possession of the puck on that play lol.

Yes, He played most of the game on the wing with Beck and in my opinion that's where he should be. Puts him in with the top six forwards and he makes things happen, as well Beck needs quality players to play with.

Just out of curiosity and there is no indication this sort of deal has been discussed…

What if Ottawa were to offer Gavin Ewles (18yo) and 5th round pick for McCoy? Ewles is one of those guys that bounces between the 2nd and 3rd pairing in Ottawa. He is one year younger than McCoy so likely is there one year longer and you don’t need to spend an OA spot next year on him like you would with McCoy.

Would that “type” of deal be something on the radar?

Adding Ewles would be a nice piece to this Petes team, but I have to question the Petes desire to trade their new Captain. Yes I know captains have been traded in the past, but with Mayer and Gauvreau both graduating and uncertainty with Konnor Smith next season, having one constant in Donovan McCoy returning would be very valuable. Carson Cameron, Liam Ladds, Brayden Velliaris, and Dylan Woulds will have spots next season and I think the experience of captain McCoy will help a ton moving forward.
