I imagine all of

Beck, Mayer, Sztuska and Smith will be in different uniforms before the January 10th trade deadline.
I am certain Owen Beck will be traded for a young player and likely two, 2nds and two, 3rds. They will likely trade one of Sam Mayer and Konnor Smith but not both. I am leaning towards them trading Smith. They may trade Liam Sztuska. As of the trade today they have two, 3rds in 2025, two, 5ths in 2024 plus another 5th in 2027. They need to add three, 2nds, one or two, 3rds and three, 4ths to totally rebuild their draft pick cupboard. The return for Connor Lockhart was disappointing. It should have been a 3rd and 4th at minimum.

Mike Oke was not dealing from a position of power.....he had to get down to 3 OAs and every GM in the league knew it.

IMO if the Petes had their choice then Gauvreau would have been traded at this point , not Lockhart.
Problem is that there is no market for Gauvreau other than giving him away which Oke would rather not do.
I'm sure that Oke and the coaches didn't feel great about sitting a 20 year old player each game this season (one who helped them win a championship last year), otherwise they wouldn't have dealt Lockhart and the DEFINITELY would not have dealt him to Oshawa :eek3:

Who is most likely to be dealt at the deadline?
Beck and Mayer at the very least and possibly Smith

The strength of the Petes this season has been defense and goaltending so with Mayer and possibly Smith being traded, the Petes will need the experience and solid defensive play that Gaurvreau brings.

Oke will likely get a serviceable OA Dman in the deal he does for Mayer. (Mancini - SAG, Hislop - GUE)
Post deadline the Petes defense could look like this:

OA Dman McCoy
Gauvreau Cameron
Woulds Velliaris
Ladds

What would it look like if Gauvreau was traded instead of Lockhart?

I like the plan going forward and that the less experienced guys on the Petes will be seeing a lot more ice-time after the trade deadline. Hopefully the Petes are in a position at the trade deadline where they've banked enough points and this young group can get some playoff experience as well.

btw.......where was Melee tonight? They could have used an extra body when they were pressing throughout the 3rd period.

Kingston is interested.
What would do you Kingston be prepared to offer for him. The Petes would want more than they got for Connor Lockhart. He is likely worth either a defenceman and 3rd round draft pick or a 2nd, 3rd and maybe a 4th.

Nobody in the east is better then anyone else it’s totally up for grabs once the Petes move a few more guys
I agree except for brantford. Definitely think as of now they’re the weakest team. Not to mention they’ll likely trade Donovan

I’d assume it would be a package like Outwater and a second round pick, or 2 3rds. Although many fronts fans don’t like outwater on the right team he’s a PPG player who is good on defence (two way)and he’s returning next year. Not the most aggressive player but under the right coach I’m sure it changes. Hasn’t had much time under Mann yet. Rob Wilson is a good coach.

You guys are fooling yourselves if you don’t think they’re trading those four players. This is what the draft pick situation is like even after the Lockhart trade…

All four of those guys won’t return anyways, why not get assets for them?

Also “no market” for Sam Mayer is laughable. He played 25+ minutes a night last season on a team that won the championship and he is even better this season… every contending team should want him on there team.

I don’t see anyone in the east paying for Mayer and who in the west would all the contending teams have their OA’s

They will upgrade on their OA’s. Mayer is an upgrade on lots of teams current OAs
Outside of Mississauga and Sudbury I don’t see anyone in the east upgrading OA’s and I’m not even sure either of those teams would unless the price is cheap

Just realized missy only has 2 so I guess they could

I think this was a miss on Oke’s part. I think in this case you have to give Gauvreau away and pair Lockheart with Beck to boost their value as much as possible and trade them at the deadline. Basically what Hamilton had to do last year.

Instead we traded an 80 point player to Oshawa for basically nothing especially when Ottawa got a 2nd and 3rd for Beck.

I typically stand behind Oke but this was a major failure on his part. Very disappointing.

Who’s taking Gauvreau??? If the Petes wanted to get max value on Lockhart then they should of dealt him in the summer

Oke knows Gauvreau only has real value for the Petes, and the value other teams placed on Lockhart. He will get another relatively good OA for nearly free when trading Mayer.
What Hamilton received from Peterborough for two OAs may never be equaled.

Edit: after thinking about it, Oke may have made the best trade possible. He got fair value while doing what is best for the player’s career. Lockhart will be an important part of a playoff drive playing on PP, PK, and 5 on 5 with Seneke or Ritchie.

Hamilton had to release Duarte last year instead of selling low on their quality OAs.

I never once said they could get a first rounder for the OAs but the return for Lockheart was low.

Who cares who’s taking him. Sometimes players just have to be release like Tye Austin.

Trading Lockheart before true contenders were identified was the wrong move. Teams will upgrade OAs and that been made clear in previous years.

This was a major fail no matter how you’d like to spin it.

I don’t think it was a major fail I think the market for OA’s is very slim. Who are really the true contenders this year to me it looks like Mississauga, Sudbury, Saginaw, London, Soo for sure and maybe guelph Owen sound to some degree outside of that I don’t see any teams viewing Lockhart as a major upgrade over who they have. Let’s not forget the teams who are gonna be selling also have quality OA’s maybe Lockhart wasn’t as valued as people think

I cannot think of two other teams that would upgrade at OA RW and prioritize Lockhart over A.Christopolous. I think Oke may have made the best trade possible for both Lockhart and the Petes.

30 goal 80 point player with memorial cup experience. Agree to disagree.

Could see Mississauga getting him or Kingston for the east. Sauga far more likely though as for 1 kingston still has their OA callens but I would be shocked if they don’t drop him and for 2 Kingstons in the same division so it would be weird. although last nights trade was even weirder with Lockhart going to Oshawa so ya never know.

If there is a trade for Mayer I don’t see it happening for atleast another month. Probably right around the time Logan Morrison went last year to Ottawa. Not the same package as Morrison but will be mainly picks.

Tucker Robertson update
  • played his first regular season pro game for the Mavericks last night
  • picked up an assist on a PP goal
  • played RW and started the game
  • kinda weird.....KC had only 11 forwards and 6 D dressed but had two forwards scratched with another on IR

Here is video of Robertson's assist

The Mavericks are on a 7 game winning streak!
It will be interesting to see if Tucker is in the lineup again tonight

Thank you for everything Connor! Easily one of, if not my favourite Petes players of all time and it was a pleasure to watch you grow and win an OHL Championship for this city. From the moment you got to Peterborough you played with as much 'hart' as I have ever seen and I can confidently say you bled maroon. You represented and fought for the Petes with everything you had every night and wore the Petes crest with so much pride. You played like you had been with the organization for your entire career and I wish you had been. Good luck and go get that NHL contract Locky!
