You are making an assumption, actually multiple assumptions.

I am not saying Wright won’t be in Peterborough. Far from it. But I think you all need to be realistic about what you can and cannot do. You are restricted in the amount of assets you can realistically trade.

I will be the first one on here to suggest Wright isn’t worth what MacT was traded for but the realistic fair market value is probably exactly the same and Peterborough actually set the market price last season.

Now, if the Petes want Wright, they are going to likely have to pony up same for same. You can’t expect to get an OA NHL drafted player as a “throw in” for no added value. It is not realistic.

IMO, David Jesus is better value and you could probably get him for less than Rogers and maybe even for draft picks you have left. Maybe add someone like McCoy to a 5th?
Assumptions and speculation is what makes this site fun!

I would not be heartbroken if we don’t get Roger with Wright. Pivoting to Jesus or another OA dmen in that talent category is probably more realistic and cost effective. Petes are going to be active and it will be interesting and exciting to see what all takes place.

There could always be some type of side deal next year like we’ve seen happen with other teams most recently Niagara and Oshawa with Tomasino and Castle

By the sounds of it, Wright seems to be doing the same thing by only wanting to go to Peterborough

I think it could be Van Volsen, DeZoete/Melee/Guo, 2 2nds, 4 3rds for Wright and Roger
You don’t have four 3rds to trade. That’s my whole point.

It looks like you have:
Two 2nds in 2025
two 3rds in 2023 and a 3rd in 2025.
one 4th in 2026.
Two 5ths in 2024 and one in 2026.

That is what the most recent “unofficial” draft pick database has for Peterborough.

If Roger is realistically worth a 2nd and a 3rd and you use Melee in the Wright deal then what do you have left that is expendable with a value of a 2nd and a 3rd that Kingston would want?

Assumptions and speculation is what makes this site fun!

I really think Jesus should be your target 100%. I don’t think his acquisition cost will be overbearing. You are more likely to be able to do that deal and a Wright deal. I think. It would be close but if you can turn one of the 3rds in the Wright deal into a 4th then a 3rd and 5th would likely net Jesus or pretty close.

Based purely off the remaining assets this is probably the most realistic and likely trade deadline outcomes. Either way this would be a huge win for the Petes getting Wright and Jesus (someone who I’ve mentioned a couple weeks ago as a target for the Petes)

The Petes could probably get Jesus & Cato for McCoy if they choose. I’m fairly certain Cato has a gold education package.

VanVolsen is worth at least a 2 & 3 more than Pharrand was at the same time last season imo. So, he is at least equal to what Pharrand and Meelee were in a deadline deal.
Hamilton under Staios drafted for his team much like the battalion always has. I think Pharrand, Donovan, Meelee, Strome, and Arnsby, Outwater were all selected 6-12 spots ahead of where most teams had those players ranked.
I think Lardis, Leskovar, 2-2nds, 3-3rds, 4, 5, 6 could get Wright & Roger.
The Petes 3rd line if acquiring Wright would be made up of Panwar, Meelee, Dubois, Purdeller so Lardis might not be a stumbling block.

I don’t think the Pete’s get Wright and Roger without giving up VanVolson. Barrie however has all the assets in picks and some decent youth to get Wright and Hache and possibly Acuri as well. Wright might throw a big wrench into things by indicating that he only wants to be traded to the Pete’s to play with Othman. But Clarke may have his year at the WJC too. Will be interesting which of the two teams get him.

Barrie is the other likely destination for Wright, I agree.
I think Kingston might prefer Lardis over VanVolsen. Lardis fits next year’s time-line a bit better and has been team mates of a Soto & Outwater.
Beaudoin made a ready statement last weekend. I’m not sure he is made available for less than Arcuri & Wright.

The Petes will take Wright sure but what we really need is a defenseman who can play minutes, solid not too flashy. Our Gf/GA ratio is almost .500 which is terrible for our experience and talent. Need to shore up the D to help Simpson. I like picking up a steady D-man better than selling out future (Jesus, Deline) , and there are others if I had the time lol). Similar to how we picked up Wilson and York in 2019-20.

But the Petes will sell out the future, they are just too committed to not react to what NB did and watch Barrie and/or ‘67s get better than them.
Zito could have been the fall back 2-way centre, now it’s Wright or …no one that I can think of. Maybe Morrison and a 19 yr old RD, but that won’t have the impact of Wright.

I guess the real question is whether the Petes, even with trades, can match North Bay realistically speaking.

Barrie (with Clarke) and Ottawa both have the assets to make big strides. Whether they do is another story. But, I am not sure if the Petes can now match North Bay provided North Bay gets healthy. Is Wright and Roger or Jesus or similar enough to get the Petes ahead of North Bay? I don‘t think they are as deep. They may be better top heavy but I am not sure they will be able to match up depth wise.

Thoughts?

North bay is way deeper on all levels forwards defence and goaltending. Petes will need more than just Wright and a defenceman to match.

I guess I just feel like we don’t need any more scoring punch (which would further reduce ice time for Robertson, Avon, Lardis, Othmann etc) when maybe what we really need is defence
Wright is probably the best two way player in the league if he is returned. I think Robert Thomas is a good comparison. If defense is what you need, why would you balk at adding a player who will really move the needle on the defensive side of the puck?

I agree that as far as pure depth goes, we won't be able to match North Bay and maybe even Ottawa but we ultimately have no choice but to go all in at this point. If we don't and we hold onto those picks I just know that we will regret it and we will all think of what a wasted opportunity this season was. I look at it this way, whether we trade our last 2nds, and 3rds or not, we are still going to be a bottom of the league team next year regardless so we might as well just give ourselves the best chance and leave no stones unturned. At this point, worries about an already weak future cannot hold us back whatsoever and we need to be 100% all in. If we lose, at least we died trying and gave ourselves the best chance to win

Ultimately that is the predicament that the Petes are in right now. We have a very solid group no question, but yes we cannot match North Bay trade for trade and I think Oke and his staff know that. That notion should not stop us from utilizing our remaining assets and using what we do have at the deadline to go all in. Whether thats Wright or some other combination, we need to go all in to give ourselves the best chance regardless of what North Bay looks like.

The Petes traded McTavish to Hamilton because that was the only team he agreed to be traded to.
While that may be true, the end result was the same for Kingston in that the Petes sent their best player to the Fronts biggest competition. So, I don’t think the Fronts will be in a hurry to help out the Petes this year. They will do what works for them and if that means keeping Wright if the offer isn’t fair, then so be it.

They aren’t keeping Wright lol would make zero sense. Would not look good for their memorial cup bid if they held him instead of getting assets for next year

I do agree with you but that idea cannot stop the Petes from going all in. Like I said earlier, our future is bleak no matter what we do and I would still just feel much better for our chances if we went all in and at least gave it our hypothetical best shot. At this point when compared to North Bay, yes we do not have the same complete depth as them, and this deadline has no way of changing that to reshape the team. That's why I think they would rather just aim higher for a Wright-esque move because thats really the only move that gives them a better chance and makes them better. Peterborough has to rely on being top heavy because thats how they are built and unfortunately do not have the roster luxury that Ottawa and North Bay have as it is obviously far too late to build up the strong depth. hopefully that makes sense

Also wondering will they see the need to upgrade on Spearing? My guess is he won’t be moved

Only Wright, not the next best three forwards, would give the Petes forwards to match imo. The top six could play 45 min against anyone, then 10-12 min from Panwar, Meelee, Dubois, Purdeller covers the rest of the game.

He wont be. They made him the captain for a reason. This team has character issiues as it is. You cant take out the leader and expect that to not get even worse

I guess my overall point would be is there a cautious all in? Trade your picks, sure. But tossing away a 6th overall pick in the process may be a leap too far in the ”go for it” option? I’m not criticizing either way. Jsut asking what the Sense is and whether it can be stomached. I mean, if Barrie gets Clarke back and pushes their chips in and Ottawa is active, even with Wright, it may be a two round playoff depending on matchups. It would be heartbreaking to go out in 2 rounds and finish the season with no usable picks and no ‘06 1st rounder.

It has to be something the management team there needs to consider.

The Petes are too committed to consider the future cost. Just get Wright & that OA RD.
Let Barrie try to get DelMastro, DelBelBelluz, & Arcuri and ‘67s go for Morrison, Mintyukov, & Harrison; and, entertain us all.

LOL. Yes. That would be epic entertainment for sure! That won’t happen But imagine if it were to? That would be an epic battle. Four teams all in to the max and only one team left standing at the end. I can’t think of a better scenario.

If Barrie were to add the goalie to that mix, I’m not sure but I like their roster by comparison.

It’s too late now to consider not going all in. This is the Petes best chance to go for it IMO. To me the biggest concern is they won’t have home ice for a majority of the playoffs it looks like.

The funny part is I would normally be mean saying such a thing but it is a realistic outcome this year in this conference depending on how the chips fall through the deadline. I can’t remember the last time there were four teams bunched this closely on paper coming out of a deadline.

If Ottawa sits back and adds an average OA and does nothing else, they’d be the ones out in round 2 and that would be with going into a deadline hovering around .800%! Two teams are going to be pretty disappointed and one will be happy. The 3rd will be kissing their sister…meh.
