I've been curious about that, as a Ducks fan wondering where Mintyukov may end up. The Petes have a great team, and a solid/physical back end, but I noticed that you are right at the bottom in terms of production from your Dmen. As of of the other night, you were one of two teams who's entire D core was being outscored by Mintyukov alone. Probably less of a concern having added additional firepower up front, but is it still a concern?
It's been discussed here for sure that the Petes need a defenseman who can quarterback the PP and notch some points. McCoy could be that guy and perhaps his development was stymied by the shortened season year. Maybe same with Guo who is a year younger. So far Mayer who is essentially a walk-on, is our top offensive Dman.

I think they were expecting Zanetti to be that guy but he isnt. Neither is Mccoy. I agree they need to go get a good offensive defenseman as the biggest need. Kyrou would be great. so would White

Not sure how often Rival trade but a great PP defensive QB is Lleyton Moore and he is on the trade bait for the Generals and I believe Petes have an OA spot available

It really is the perfect guy for what the Petes need is. But I don’t see it happening lol

I would personally HATE to see him.in the Marron but for the right return...it could make sense. Then they could hand the C over to Ritchie

The last time the Gens/Petes traded a player to the other, the Gens won the memorial cup. Although that player never played a game lol (3rd goalie as insurance)

Does acquiring Mintyukov seem like a real possibility? I'd assume that would mean Purdeller would have to go the other way.

I know we just dealt with Flint but we could consider Peterborough native and OA Tyler Deline. He's not as offensively gifted as Gavin White or Lleyton Moore but from what I have seen he is a reliable D who plays the PP. Might be a nice add.

Ryan Winterton and Gavin White will do 😎
I’d be reluctant to trade for Winterton two half seasons missed to shoulder issue and production last season dropped precipitously after a month. If the price is VanVolsen; zero chance.

That's good to know. I didn't realize the trade window opened that early for them. Is that the same timeline as 16 y/o first rounders?
Jan 1 for 16 yr olds; maybe the same for first year import though I think it is upon return from Christmas break

Last night, between periods of the game, Dan Malta and Scott Arnold talked about discussing with Coach Rob Wilson and GM Mike Oke what the Petes needed after acquiring Othmann. They stated that filling that last OA spot with a puck moving Dman was a real possibility.

That led Malta and Arnold to mentioning 4 different Dmen that the Petes could target that fit the description. The problem with some of the players they mentioned and names others on here have brought up at times is that those players won't be available because those teams aren't selling.

As the Petes lineup stands, if Guo and Leskovar are to be the 7/8 depth guys after an OA is added, a RH Dman would help balance the unit.

Mayer(03)(L) McCoy(04)(R)
Smith(04)(L) Zanetti(03)(R)
Spearing (OA)(L) OA
Leskovar(04)(L) Guo(05)(R)

Here are my thoughts on the offensive Dmen targets around the league that have been mentioned so far.

Possible OA additions listed by likelihood IMO

Gavin White (OA) (R) 5pts / 5g, + 2 (Ham), 6’1”, 193lbs

Pros – RH, offense producer, great skater, not the most expensive add
Cons – some defensive issues, just back from broken orbital bone, uses up an OA spot

David Jesus (OA) (R) 12pts / 18g, - 12 (Nia), 6’4”, 181lbs
Pros – RH, decent 2-way defender, good size
Cons – not enough of an offensive Dman, uses up an OA spot

Jake Murray (OA) (L) 11pts / 19g, - 8 (Gue), 6’3”, 205lbs
Pros – big Dman, decent 2-way defender, seems like a character guy
Cons – LH, not enough of an offensive Dman, uses up an OA spot

Unlikely OA additions for reasons listed under Cons

Michael Renwick (OA) (R) 12pts / 16g, + 3 (Wsr), 6’0”, 185lbs

Pros – RH, decent 2-way defender, seems like a character guy
Cons – WSR likely not selling, not enough of an offensive Dman, uses up an OA spot

Ethan Ritchie (OA) (L) 12pts / 18g, + 1 (Sar), 6’0”, 196lbs
Pros – decent 2-way defender
Cons – SAR is buying not selling, LH, uses up an OA spot

Tyler Deline (OA) (L) 10pts / 15g, + 8 (Flnt), 5’10”, 173lbs
Pros – offense producer, great skater, not the most expensive add
Cons – Flint doesn’t appear to be selling despite Othmann trade, not a big defender, some defensive issues, uses up an OA spot

Lleyton Moore (OA) (L) 11pts / 17g, + 3 (Osh), 5’8”, 176lbs
Pros – offense producer, great skater, poise with the puck
Cons – LH, not a big defender, uses up an OA spot, plays for Oshawa

Other Dmen targets who are not OAs

Christian Kyrou (03) (R) 21pts / 17g, - 3 (Erie), 5’11”, 182lbs

Pros – RH, offense producer, doesn’t use up an OA spot
Cons – high cost, not a big defender, some defensive issues

Pavel Mintyukov (IMP) (03) (L) 28pts / 20g, + 13 (Sag), 6’3”, 195lbs
Pros – offense producer, great skater, doesn’t use up an OA spot
Cons – high cost, LH, uses up an Import spot (Purdeller would have to be included so the deal would have to be done in January)

Logan Mailloux (03) (R) 12pts / 11g, - 1 (Ldn), 6’3”, 208lbs
Pros – RH, offense producer, doesn’t use up an OA spot
Cons – high cost, some defensive issues, past off-ice issues brings too much baggage

It would be alot more than just Van Volsen.

They do both have same Agents.

Zero chance that I would part with a no-doubt blue chip prospect such as VanVosen for a high injury risk player. For VanVolsen & picks, I would expect Clarke & Vierling or Arcuri/Wright & Roger.

Trading for Clarke+Vierling or Wright+Roger would cost way more than Van Volsen+picks, unless you mean like 20 picks lol. Clarke or Wright by themselves would be Van Volsen+3 2nds+3 3rds. And then Vierling/Roger by themselves would be another 2nd and 2 3rds or something like that

The thing is, VanVolsen is a better 16 yr old prospect than I can recall being moved in January. McMicheal turned out great, but I not certain he was considered quite as good as VanVolsen at similar ages

Those first 2 lines look great…..if they are looking for nicknames, I like:

Othmann/Robertson/Stillman. THUNDER
Lardis/Avon/Lockhart. LIGHTNING

I think Zanetti is our most underrated player -I never really noticed until he was out for a game but he is an outstanding defenceman

I think the Petes just need to relax and let the team settle
He's always had really high level skill and is more physical than people think. His decision making has been the issue at times but it's been much better lately.

I agree on letting things settle in here for a bit, this is a good team.

The addition of Othmann has been the piece to nicely fill out the forward group. The line of Avon, Lockhart and Lardis is one of the fastest units I have seen in a very long time. Stillman, Robertson and Othmann are gelling and I love the way Purdeller and Panwar are playing and that will pay dividends for JVV.. Dubois, Dezoete and Melee when he returns are a good checking line that can score. The arrival of Othmann has bumped players into lines that work. I suppose that makes sense they went after him, fills a need.
