Another deal I would like Oke to make is to circle back to the Erie Otters once again and this time get a star D-man. Similar to the Bulldogs deal we could potentially get a defenceman and a forward and I'm not sure which deal I like more. I think we need to do everything we can to try to get D Christian Kyrou from the Otters, he's an absolute stud. Could possibly try to add F Brett Bressette, who would most likely slot into the 2nd line, still giving us such an amazing lineup. This deal would most likely require Van Volsen, and some combination of those 4 2nds, and 6 3rds. Would be another absolute blockbuster trade for the Petes, but once again, gotta throw all the chips in. Many options for the Petes and still lots of time until the deadline, but would love to see Kyrou on the team.

Othmann - Robertson - Lockhart
Stillman - Avon - Bressette
Lardis - Dubois - Panwar
Melee - Purdeller - DeZoete

Kyrou - McCoy
Smith - Mayer
Spearing - Zanetti

D - Christian Kyrou : F - Brett Bressette
They both look great in maroon and white!
If this happens, it still leaves an open OA spot to fill........it's the OA spot I'm having trouble with at this point.

At the very least IMO, they need to add 1 forward and 1 Dman to the present lineup.

Do they keep Spearing and add White (RD)(HAM) + an 03 forward.
OR
Do they upgrade Spearing to White (RD)(HAM) + another OA + an 03.
OR
Do they keep Spearing and add Kyrou (RD)(ERI) + an OA forward.

IMO it seems very likely at this point that VanVolsen will be dealt, given the few picks Oke has to work with.
I'd love it if they could keep VanVolsen, but they can't half-ass it when it comes to the trade deadline and going all in.

Will it be one-stop shopping?
- JVV + picks to Hamilton for White & Winterton?
- JVV + picks to Erie for Kyrou & Cohen?

19 games into the season with the toughest part of their schedule behind them, I'm looking forward to the two games this week. It will take some time for everyone to gel but there is great potential for more offense, which is the biggest piece missing so far. This team needs to be carrying the play, pressuring teams on the forecheck and consistently out-shooting teams.

Didn't they re-announce Spearing as the captain like 2 weeks ago? I don't think they plan on moving him after an unnecessary announcement like that

I agree that it would not be an easy trade to make but a contending team trading a guy with a letter has happened before......
  • Hamilton traded Navrin Mutter“A” and picks to Kitchener for Arber Xhekaj
  • Sudbury traded Shane Bulitka “C” and picks to North Bay for Brad Chenier “C”
btw, any guesses at which team makes a deal next? Kitchener who is slipping?

You're absolutely right, Oke and co cannot half ass this at all. Trade away everything you can, especially Van Volsen and put all your chips in. Even if it completely wipes your cupboards bare, I would rather that than think of what could have been.

Could anyone tell me if Guryev has picked up a fighting major this year and if so, how many?
Guryev has 3 fighting majors to date
2 of them he was the instigator, and his last one he was instigated on after throwing a head check which he was tossed and later suspended for.
He has 1 fight to give whether instigates or not, then suspensions start.

True, I just think they wouldn't have gone out of their way a couple weeks ago to "re-announce" that he was the captain if they were going to trade him a month later

Lose Robertson, Othmann, Stillman, Avon, Panwar, Zanetti after this year but could trade Lockart/Mayer next year, although both would be OAs so that would diminish the return quite a bit. Lardis would be the big trade chip to recoup picks but probably wouldn't trade him for another 2 years as he's an 05

The other thing is they could have made a big deal of announcing Spearing as Captain because it makes him more attractive as trade material.

Spearing was the captain last season.
As their only OA and after the rough year he had on and off the ice last year, it would have been strange if they didn't name him captain this season.
I'm sure the goal is to add what they need without trading Spearing but if the other buyers and the sellers may create a landscape that necessitates an upgrade on Spearing.
Championship teams need OAs that are top notch and IMO Spearing doesn't offer enough.

I don't mean him wearing the C, I mean they did a whole new post 2 weeks ago about how he was still the captain. Most teams don't re-announce their captain every year, when it's the same guy as the year before. But the Petes went out of their way to say that. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but it seemed to me like they were trying to dispel the "we should upgrade on Spearing" talks

Fair enough.......the announcing of "leadership groups" has become a thing and maybe that made it look like a big deal announcement but the focus was on the group, not specifically Spearing.

They should upgrade over Spearing any team that is serious about a run knows Spearing isn’t good enough but I just have a weird feeling they won’t trade him

Ya I have a weird feeling they won't trade him too. I think you could make an argument that Panwar should not be one of our OA's either. 0.35 points per game (3G, 3A) and playing as our 2nd line centre recently is not what an OA forward should be on a championship team. We are really lacking in the quality OA department and boy do I wish that we had Emmett Sproule and Joe Carroll this season.

I’m okay with panwar as one of the OA’s as he does other things well like kill penalties and win draws. With all the other elite offensive players the petes have panwar shouldn’t be relied upon to get alot of points. Ideally he should slot in the third line centre position. The next OA they bring in has to be elite though

With guelph now starting to sell I think Jake Murray would be a upgrade over spearing if they could do it depending on the price

A decisive first period leads the way to a 4-0 win over Oshawa who was missing a few good players,Butler included. This was a completely different Petes team from the Saginaw game four days ago. The four forward lines were flying and there was much better effort from the likes of Stillman and Avon.. Kudos to Oshawa who never gave up and put up a fight. Melee's hit on the Oshawa player was a tad late and a head-shot. Though an accident, I'm not sure what Melee was thinking on the hit but he's likely suspended. The Gens kid was groggy and hope he is okay.

Are the Petes really any worse with McCue/Page/Lefebvre in there vs. Melee?

The Petes came out absolutely flying and essentially ended it in the first. Othmann goal was a beauty and that line with Stillman and Robertson had complete control early (they did get pinned a couple times later in the game).

Avon - Lockhart - Lardis is a really fast line and they were buzzing as well, though I do wonder if at some point those lines are tweaked to add some size to the second line.

The forward depth is far beyond anything we've had in years, a bottom six than includes Panwar, Dezote, Purdeller, JVV, Dubois and Melee is really good. Some nice role players, good secondary/tertiary scoring, and guys who can play higher in the lineup if needed.

Smith/McIntyre fight was fun, looked like he was in trouble early but battled back well to get it close to a draw and had the building hopping.

Has Leskovar passed Guo on the depth chart or are we going to see a rotation there? Leskovar looks kind of awkward to me, just his skating style or something but he's improved massively and is a pretty effective player in what's obviously a sheltered role (he probably only saw 12-14 minutes last night).

Oshawa obviously doesn't have a great team but I thought last night a lot of their younger players fared well, while guys like Harrison, Gagnier, Leaver weren't as impactful - I know Leaver ended up 45/49 but I thought he could have had the first and third Petes goals and just generally seemed to have a difficult time playing/covering/tracking the puck in the crease, it was more sloppy than I expected, though he did also make some big saves.

Petes biggest need is a right handed defenceman preferably one that can run a power play (Gavin white)
I've been curious about that, as a Ducks fan wondering where Mintyukov may end up. The Petes have a great team, and a solid/physical back end, but I noticed that you are right at the bottom in terms of production from your Dmen. As of of the other night, you were one of two teams who's entire D core was being outscored by Mintyukov alone. Probably less of a concern having added additional firepower up front, but is it still a concern?
