That's the rumour. Apparently Flint brass is done with him and his antics. Should be the best player in the league so the talent is unquestionable. But so was Ryan Merkley's. If the trade does go through, we'll see if Rob Wilson earns his money!
Geez, I hope this guy isn't like Merkley. You'd think the Petes would have learned their lesson from that debacle.

Sad to see Guryev go, but it's not totally shocking. I was hoping they'd figure out a way to reign him in.

At least it's only a couple of weeks until Flint pays a visit. Should be fun.

Big move by the Petes, Othmann is a hell of a player. There appears to be concerns about his attitude but let's not forget he spent the last three years in arguably one of the most unstable franchises. I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt. I think for the price it's well worth it for the petes.

My first thought too.
I don’t think Merkley’s attitude (still wanted to be a Pete when traded) was as much a factor in his trade as the fact he just could not fit in the coach’s system, the Petes may have felt a need to move Merkley before pick conditions were met, and Merkley only willing to go to London if traded.

Even if he is, it’s a chance you have to take. Petes got Othmann (and Merkley) for so much under market value that you have to take the shot on it. In Flint even when they hated each other and it got so bad that they weren’t willing to let him play 1 more game for them, he was still on pace for 100 points. So the talent clearly isn’t the issue. He’s going to score

Othmann is obviously an enormous add for the Petes.
Oke’s patience at the beginning of the season is starting to pay off.

It looked like goalie could be a potential weakness but he didn’t jump the gun.
He picked up Panwar from Flint, who had too many OAs, for a 4th, 5th and 6th.
Oke is dealing from a position of power and takes advantage of few trading options for Flint, getting Othmann for Guryev a 2nd and two 3rds.

Now the question is how this move impacts the needs and future trade targets.
Is this forward group strong enough as is?

Othmann (L)(03) – Robertson (R)(03) – Lockhart (R)(03)
Avon (L)(03) – Panwar (L)(OA) – Stillman (R)(03)
Lardis (L)(05) – Dubois (R)(03) – Purdeller (R)(04)
Van Volsen (L)(06) – Melee (L)(04) – Dezoete (L)(04)

EXTRAS
Page (L)(05)
Lewis (R)(05)
McCue (L)(05)
McCallum (R)(06)

Here is what the D unit looks like now:

Mayer (L)(03) – Guo (R)(05)
Smith (L)(04) – Zanetti (L)(03)
Spearing (L)(OA) – McCoy (R)(04)

EXTRA
Leskovar (L) (04)

IMO this unit needs an upgrade…...Guo gets overwhelmed at times and turns the puck over too much.
As Petes1 said “Gavin White” add makes the most sense.

Mayer (L)(03) – Zanetti (L)(03)
Smith (L)(04) – White (R)(OA)
Spearing (L)(OA) – McCoy (R)(04)

EXTRA
Guo (R)(05)
Leskovar (L) (04)

So is that all that the Petes will have to do?

Othmann has to make us the best team in the league. Now trade Vanvolsen for Christin Kyrou from Erie and theres no way we dont win ti all. Id use the last OA spot on a 2nd line center. Panwar is a really godo 3rd line centre as as checking line but when the top line gets the other teams #1 unit in the playoffs, you need your 2nd line centre to be able to consistently provide scoring and he wont do that

There are good OA RD options in White (with Winterton), Keane (with Zito or Michaud), Roger (with Arcuri) sending picks and ‘04 and/or ‘05 born.

Nice road win for the Petes and a good game again from Sztuzka. It was weird that Guryev was listed in the starting lineup on Petes Twitter and then at game time he's sitting out. Then the rumours about Othmann started swirling. Anyway the Petes played well for the most part and pick up the extra point. If we do have Othmann that is some much needed goal-scoring as we seem to struggle with finishing after applying pressure in the other team's end. Just before Panwar's goal I was pissed about Stillman's turnovers and then he gets a nice assist on Panwar's goal. Robertson's goal was weird. I think the Firebirds defenseman shot it in his own net.
I get pissed too lol all the time! I just expect better and want them to do well

Serious question and I may be way off base here… but would you guys do JVV (+ Spearing if they wanted him) for Morrison and White?

You’d have to think that would make us the favourites.

Simpson
Sztuska

Mayer-McCoy
Guryev-White
Smith-Zanetti

Lardis-Robertson-Lockhart
Avon-Morrison-Stillman
Dezoete-Panwar-Purdeller
Melee-Dubois-Page/McCue
Way way off base lolno way we get Morrison and white from Hamilton

Yeah, the Windsor flu. Lots of guys get sick when they have to play at the WFCU, totally understandable. It's an intimidating place for the visitor. ;)

Your team is good, Windsor had to move the puck quickly to keep possession. Most of the time a Pete was right on the puck carrier at all times making it difficult to get quality chances. It's my 2 cents that the Pete's look like a contender, one of the tougher opponents we've faced so far. I wouldn't let a 1 goal loss on the road to the best team in the West sour your opinion of the squad, you guys definitely belong in the discussion this year.
Really lol should we just give you the Robertson Cup now? Lmao

Random thoughts.......

- It's just over 1/4 way into the season and the Petes' strongest and most consistent position has been goalie.
If the Simpson/Sztuska tandem can play even close to this level the rest of the way, the Petes will be tough to beat.

- a couple interesting comments from Generals Updates
FWIW an NHL scout who I very rarely talk to DM'd me a couple minutes ago saying
"Flint would only send him to the East. Dave Cameron and James Richmond wouldn't tolerate him and
Barrie is a mess as it is. So Peterborough was the only option, which is why the return wasn't much"

Makes sense; so happy that Oke took advantage of the situation and got Othmann at a reduced price.

"Othmann is dating Van Volsen's sister, so that'd be pretty funny/ironic if it was in fact a 2-part trade"

I don't think it's a 2-part trade, given the top comment, but this connection should be good for both players.

- Imagine if Oke can pull another rabbit out of his hat and is able to deal Purdeller ++ for Pavel Mintyukov?!
Then trade Spearing+ to Hamilton for White.
Then pick up hometown boy Kalvyn Watson (OA)(RW) from Soo
Then call it good........... sorry, I though this was fantasy hockey for a second

He was a Pete a lot longer than he was a General.

Adding Otthmann is a fantastic add for a Petes team that struggles to get insurance goals to put teams away. It happened in Windsor and last night in Flint. Otthmann looks like a guy who beelines to the net which is what we need. Other than Avon and Robertson, our system is shoot it in, change the lines, chase puck and/or set up a neutral zone trap. You don't score goals that way often. Otthmann gives us a guy who enters the zone with purpose.

White should be Petes #1 priority, he's what they need more than anyone else.
Good player, but curious why should White be the Petes’ top priority? Would the PP not be four forwards with Othman occupying right circle to boards and Lockhart and Lardis for the 2nd unit at the point?

He’s not strictly a PP QB. Guys a horse that plays 25+ minutes a night and controls the play every time he’s on the ice. Fantastic defenseman.

I agree with White is a well above average player and solid defenseman. But on an absolutely loaded Hamilton D, he was the 5th option for defensive duties behind Xhekaj, Krammer, Grushnikov, and Staios. He’s played three games this season, so the term horse is very loosely used here.

Othmann quit on Firebird players and Flint fans. Glad to see him go because he was becoming a distraction.
