A gutsy win tonight. Great job.
For sure! A few comments.........

- outshot 36 to 25 but a classic road win when playing 2nd night in a row with a short bench and the BUG against a rested team

- same lineup as last night except Sztuska was in for Simpson and Stillman was out.....I hope he is just ill and not injured

- does any team in the league block as many shots as the Petes?!

- how about the team discipline the Petes displayed tonight?! They were physical and tight checking but took only 1 minor penalty........against OSHAWA!! (nice double minor from Butler though:laugh:)

- It's a long season, but if Liam Sztuska's numbers are an accurate representation of the goalie he is then maybe the Petes will be OK in goal with the tandem they have. #1 star tonight - well deserved

- Lockhart was solid on D again tonight, with a goal and an assist

- Purdeller seems tentative although it has to be an adjustment. He missed the first dozen games and is playing on smaller ice surfaces than he is used to - less time and space and much more physical. He has about 8 weeks (24 games) to prove he is capable of playing top 6 in the OHL.....otherwise he may be an upgrade candidate.

- Off to Ottawa to face the 67s after they spanked Barrie 6-1. Hopefully they can earn at least a point but I'm sure Ottawa will be fired up after the Petes beat them last week

With Petes missing 4 D due to illness and suspension, is it time to sign one of their D prospects (McGrail, Wilson, or Tuin) and give someone a couple games to get experience and bring along for next year (while filling holes til D corps is healthy) when their blueline will turnover a few guys?

Guryev is back tonight and I bet Zanetti and Smith likely will be on Tuesday so I doubt it.

I think most of the people on this board… (myself included) owe Liam Sztuska an apology! Wrote him off before he was given a chance… he’s been great so far.

As for Purdeller… yes he looks rusty and tentative so far. Willing to give him a little while to figure it out… but with Saginaw likely selling and having two NHL drafted import picks… wouldn’t shock me to see the Petes explore a move there.

WIll be really good to have Guryev back tonight. The Petes are in as vulnerable a place as they have been all year, last of a three-in-three against the best team in the league in their barn and without a bunch of regulars. Have to dig deep again.

i think flu bug thru the team. With game tues, thur sat and sund next week, probably sat them out so healthy for next week long road trip

Yeah that was a gutsy effort by the Petes without Stillman, Smith, Zanetti, Simpson, Spearing and Dubois. Rookie McCue playing power play lol, this was a flu-ridden Petes team. The 67s 2nd goal was a direct result of a very tired Petes team playing a third game in three nights. A ridiculous penalty to Panwar with 4 minutes left led to the 67s PP goal to go up 4-2. That was salt in the wound. Of course listening to the Ottawa play by play guys all you would know about this game is how amazing the 67s are. Biggest homers I've heard in a while. Proud of Guryev who played like a normal person lol and i'm assuming he was under orders to dial it down. No rest for the wicked as we play Tuesday at home vs Hamilton. Once we get through this brutal stretch of the schedule and get healthy I Iook forward to playing Ottawa again.

This is no different than any other announcers, when the Pete's announcers talk about players everyone has a NHL caliber shot. In addition, every goal could be highlight goal of the year. Listen to your announcers and it will just prove that all are homers when it comes to their team. They are not going to chastise their players and praise the opposition.

As grueling as this weekend has been for the Petes and having to settle for 3 out of 6 points, with so many bodies out it did create an opportunity for some guys who normally get less ice time.
- Sztuska played back to back games and held his own
- Purdeller scored his first career OHL goal
- Leskovar played a hard-nosed style of game on D and didn't look out of place
- Guo made a number of smart plays but needs to getting better at making quicker decisions
- Page played with confidence using his speed to pressure the puck effectively
- The Petes missed Stillman, Zanetti, Smith and Spearing but they REALLY MISSED Dubois!!

Hopefully they get healthy heading into next weeks 4 games.

Man you Ottawa fans are sensitive.

Ottawa announcers aren’t the worst homers but they are bad. The worst announcer is the Hamilton guy. Absolutely the worst homer ever. Guy shouldn’t be in the booth.

I've been watching East and Central Division games for several years now and most game announcers are fair and in some cases generous when they talk about the opposing team. Kingston's announcers are very good, North Bay's are good. Hamilton's guy gets overly excited about the Bulldogs but he's okay. Oshawa's announcers also get excited about their team but in the end are pretty fair. The Ottawa colour guy who stands ice-level is pretty much a homer. I don't begrudge any announcer to cheer for their own team but the 67s guys are a bit much. I think they and their fans, judging by the talk over on the 67s thread, know they have a good thing going this year and they do.

why didnt we bring any D up?
I'm guessing here, but I think signing and bringing up a young Dman who hasn't played or even practiced with the team probably isn't worth it. A Dman makes a mistake on the ice and it can very easily end up in the Petes' net.

On the other hand, if the Petes have only 10 healthy forwards and they sign and dress a young player to play as the 11th or 12th forward, he will not be under nearly as much pressure to "hold his own" when he's out on the ice.

The other factor to consider is that Oke will be active between now and the trade deadline so the last thing he wants is to run out of player cards (I believe running out of player cards is now known as "IceDogging it")

The Petes battled to earn 3 of 6 points on the weekend. IMO what was even more valuable than the 3 points was the "us against the world" mentality that was solidified across the team - Lockhart playing D, Sztuska playing solid in back-to-back games, Mayer being an all-round beast at both ends, Leskovar & Guo playing more minutes than they ever have, the team playing tough but disciplined, everyone sacrificing their body blocking shots, keeping it simple getting pucks in and pucks out.

Another challenging week starting tomorrow. I hope they get off to a good start.

I just saw that Dan Buccella passed away. Kind of crazy that he and Brent Pope both went within a week of each other, both at young ages.

I don't remember Pope too much, but Buccella was entertaining to watch during his rather brief time here.

Who would it take for the Petes to part ways with Van Volson?
Tough question to answer at this point.
So much will depend on who is available at the trade deadline and whether it's a buyers' or sellers' market.
The other question, as far as the Petes go, is where will their biggest need be?
Given the Petes past history I would say it's highly unlikely they deal Van Volsen but I guess time will tell.

Lets have some fun , lets all voice their worst referees ans see who are the worst! Ill start by 3 worst are #1 Lewis, #2 Hamilton, #3 Reid just garbage , all miss so many penalties and seem to target certain players, and horrible calls on good clean open ice hits lmao. And really favour visiting teams , especially their favorite coach Jay McKee of Hamilton! Are the Petes too rough Jay???lol

If you hate the road team being "favoured" because HAM had 4 PPs tonight and you had 2, you'll be horrified to know that last Friday the Petes had 5 PPs in Oshawa and the Gens only had 1... I guess Cairns' favourite coach is Rob Wilson of Peterborough!

Another gutsy effort by what's left of the Petes after the fourth game in like 6 days and the flu keeps taking guys out , this time Avon, Dubois, Melee, Stillman and I assume Page as well. Lardis left ill early in the game so effectively we had only half our regular forwards. Nice effort by rookies McCue who had so many chances to score and also McCallum. Another bad call goes against the Petes resulting in Hamilton's PP goal. Purdeller called for tripping after lightly shoving a Bulldogs defenseman who lost his balance. How is that a trip or any sort of penalty? Purdeller looks like a guy who can get points so that's good.

A few comments on last night's game.
Sorry I didn't post something sooner; I actually just woke up after that game put me to sleep!

- For most of the game it looked like a team ravaged by a flu bug with 5 regulars out versus a young team coming off an OHL championship who was winless in 7 games. Tuesday night didn't help the intensity level either.

- the speed missing from the lineup with Avon out was very apparent, especially on the PP
(btw.....a nice article on the league website about Avon)
Hometown hero Avon embracing leadership role in Peterborough – Ontario Hockey League

- The Petes went from a lineup of 13 forwards and 4 Dmen dressed last week (with Lockhart playing D to make it 12F and 5D) to a lineup of 9 forwards and 8 Dmen dressed last night (with Leskovar playing F to make it 10F and 7D)

- Every team has to deal with injuries and illness but the timing of this flu bug and the toughest stretch of games for the team this season is not ideal

- Simpson stopped 32 of 33 shots, improving his league leading stats to 2.28 GAA and a 0.925 Save%.

- Purdeller played with more confidence, scoring his 2nd goal of the year and taking two penalties......just need more of the former and less of the latter Tommy Boy!

- nice to see guys like McCue, McCallum and Lefevbre get more minutes

- I kept a close eye on Spearing (Petes) and White (Ham). Last night was White's first game of the season after being out with a broken orbital bone. Spearing was paired with Guryev most of the night and was steady.
If I'm Oke I'm dealing Spearing + picks for White. White's skating ability and skill in creating offense is something that would be make the Petes attack so much more dangerous.

- Heading west tomorrow to visit Windsor, Flint and Saginaw for a 3 in 4. None of these games will be easy - I'll be thrilled if they can get 3 of 6 points.

For my money, I'd take Tucker Robertson over Stillman.
His prowess taking face-offs, plus his ability to win puck battles and play with an edge without taking penalties makes him more valuable IMO.
Stillman will be on the Canada penalty kill if he makes teh team
