Agreed. But you cant waste an overage spot on a 3rd line C when you have Dubois whos younger and alrtaedy a better 3rd line C

Everything that Panwar does good I tihnk Dubois does better. Why do we need Panwar? Cut your losses and go get Morrison and a overage goalie
If you need a top scorer/PP guy, get Morrison for 2-2nds, 2-3rds, 4th. If you want a plus player that can be effective wing or centre on three different lines in any situation other than PP, get Panwar for 2-4ths. In the Petes case, maybe both because they’re not playing Page, LeFebvre, McCue, Lewis in a close playoff game and they’re not using Dezoete or VanVolsen over Panwar to protect a lead late.

I like Panwar a lot , seems to get a little better each game. Looks like folks are debating dumping one of our OAs , Spearing or Panwar. Reality is that the Petes are not known to dump players and are more likely to see through their commitment to a player. Dumping players also messes with team morale if the kid is well liked. To be honest I think we will be really happy once Purdeller gets into playing shape. We'll have three very good forward lines.

I thankfully can't see the post you're responding to but Panwar has been a great addition. The speed he brings only makes this team harder to play against.

The other night Panwar-Avon-Stillman were all pressing in the offensive zone and it was literal hell for the defenders. Every move they made there was instantly a forward on them, resulting in so many turnovers. You see this on the PK his well, he's fast and quick and right in your face and it forces mistakes. Hugely valuable player in today's puck possession environment.

Agreed. He was huge on that 5 on 3 kill… using his speed to stay in passing lanes.

The OA hole needs to be filled with one of the higher scoring forwards.

It’s also pretty frustrating watching them use an OA spot on a guy to sit in the stands injured. I get he’s the captain and he’s had a rough go but this is the year to make a push and that may mean upgrading his spot.

A complete game by the Petes last night on the road against the top team in the East. Ottawa was fresh and the Petes were playing 2nd of two in two nights. After Ottawa went up 2-0 I still felt we were in a good position in this game knowing the team we have. 67's 1st goal was a bad rebound and zone coverage by the Petes, but I knew it was just a hiccup. The 2nd 67s goal was a PP goal and even though Ottawa was all over us in the first period, I could see that we wanted to play. Our physical game was key to this win and I don't think most of the 67s players were very happy getting hit.

With Beck's injury, very unfortunate but after watching the replay today, it was Robertson who ran into him but it wasn't a full body check and not even that hard of contact. So I don't know how Beck got hurt.

One other thing I'll mention is that the 67s are definitely a very good team but if you look at all the teams they have beat 9 times, maybe one or two are over .500.

Kingston got beat by Soo 6-2 so right now the Petes have some momentum in the East though next game vs Barrie things don't get easier.

A statement win by the Petes over the 67s. A few thoughts.....

- Made the trip to watch these East division powers battle it out in person. It was fast and physical.

- The 67s, rested and hosting the Petes who played the night before at home, outshot the Petes 40-22.
Ottawa with 12 shots and two goals before the Petes registered their first. Bus legs and 2 in 2 certainly didn't help the Petes. They were physical from the puck drop but unfortunately the 67s were faster at the start and capitalized on a bad rebound and a PP.

- Simpson was outstanding, making a number of tough saves. Anyone who was questioning his status as the #1 goalie on a contending team has received their answer.

- Lockhart (Kanata), Mayer (L'Original), Dubois (Ottawa) and Melee (Rockland) all had a contingent of family and friends cheering them on.

Lockhart needs to play all of his games in front of family and friends. IMO, it was his best game as a Pete.
1 goal, 2 assists and delivered more hits in one game than he had in total in the previous 11 games.
Well deserved 1st star choice.

Mayer with 3 assists and was a physical presence all night. The dive by Stonehouse in front of the Petes net early in the 3rd, which earned Mayer a 2 minute cross-checking penalty (huh?), was world class.

Dubois with the empty net goal and was doing Jax things - hard to play against and winning 56% of his faceoffs.

Melee didn't show up on the scoresheet but he was aggressive and physical all game.

- The 67s were not prepared for (at least not very happy with) the Petes physical play. The number of times
an Ottawa player would leave an after-whistle scrum looking beleaguered with his helmet tilted sideways or right off was too many to count.

- Panwar had a great night - no points but a +2 and a relentless checker, blocking shots on the PK. I'm fine with Panwar's game. He is developing chemistry with Avon & Stillman and his speed creates space and turnovers for them.

- Speaking of Stillman, he was solid all night. He was gritty and dangerous all night - hard to play against (I'm sensing a team identity here). He was physical but didn't take a penalty - that's who he needs to be. He scored the winner on a great play, stealing the puck at the Petes' blue line then pulling away from Mayich to go in alone on Donoso

- Looking forward to 6 remaining games between these two teams, including a home and home in the last week of the regular season - March 23 & 24

The Petes have had about 5 games this season where all of their Dmen were able to play (no injuries OR suspensions). The pairings for the top 6 Dmen in those games were:

Guryev (L) (03) and Spearing (L) (OA)
Zanetti (L) (03) and Mayer (L) (03)
Smith (L) (04) and McCoy (L) (04)

with these guys as 7th/8th
Leskovar (L) (04) and Guo (R) (05)

Guo got some time on the PP in Ottawa but seemed a little tentative. IMO he will become a top PP QB in the future but he won't be ready for that on a contending Petes team this year.

More and more I think that if the Petes are going to upgrade Spearing they should be looking at a RH puck mover who can play on the PP. I really think that Gavin White would be a good fit. He's been out since breaking his orbital bone at Dallas rookie camp so we'll see how he looks when he returns to the Bulldogs' lineup.

Kinda ridiculous schedule for Petes coming up. 7 games over 10 days including 5 games in 7 days starting Thursday . The 3rd of 3 back to back this weekend we play 67s in Ottawa of course lol.

Guryev is back from suspension for Ottawa game, a good test for him to see if he can dial back on the hits. By all means make contact but not at the head and not blind-side.

He will be on a very short leash, with the league and the team. They have 6 good Dmen wihtout him. Wouldn't be surprised to see him dealt.

Nice to see Purdeller in the lineup.
I’m excited to see how he looks.
Tonight’s lineup

Any word on Zanetti or Smith?
Injured? Sick?
Lots of ice time for the 4 Dmen dressed tonight

Rough start to the game for the Petes which led to a "dig deep" game and the Petes to their credit found a way to come back and get a point. In a game where four regular defensemen didn't dress (Smith and Zanetti were ill) Simpson has a rare off game and with a good team like Barrie, the margin of error is too thin. The Petes took it to Barrie pretty well but the Colts' goalie West was pretty good especially in the shootout. Good game by Lockhart who had to play defense tonight and managed to get two goals. Great game by Mayer as well who played hard and smart and was exhausted after some shifts.. I really think that the absence of Smith and Zanetti was the difference maker tonight . With back to back road games vs Oshawa and Ottawa, we needed the two points tonight. Gonna be a tough stretch over the next week.
