I really hope all the players (especially) know how much they accomplished this season. Even though it ended in a loss, they beat all the teams they played for 3 weeks of pre-season, 6 months of regular season and 2 months of playoffs. Against long odds. They won their league. That's more important than a Memorial Cup (in my opinion). I'm sure the loss stings, but what this team did brought life back to the Petes games, created a new generation of fans, and made the city proud. Well done, and even ending with a loss doesn't change what this group (board, GM, down to players and staff/volunteers) accomplished. A team that will be remembered forever. If any are reading this, you should all be proud (forever) of what you achieved, and thank you for the great season you gave us fans.
I agree. This season will go down as one of the best in Petes’ history. The players and team officials will be remembered in the same manner as other great past Peterborough Petes teams.

Our city needed this and I have not seen so much enthusiasm by the whole community for a championship run in any sport in Peterborough since we hosted the Memorial Cup in 1996.

Winning the OHL Championship is very special. I agree with you that it is more important than winning a Memorial Cup. A Memorial Cup Champion is decided by one game. It takes sixteen wins in the playoffs to win an OHL Championship. With ten the Petes have won more OHL/OHA Championships in the last 70 years than any other team. The Petes also are now tied with the Hamilton Bulldogs for the most OHL Championships in the Eastern Conference in the current century with two each.

Shawn Spearing could be the best Petes captain in Petes history. Most definitely in my time following the Petes. He has gone through so much in his time here. His determination and dedication to the team and is an inspiration to everyone.

After the exceptional run this Peterborough Petes team just had, it is time to look forward to the future and try to get a better look at where this team is headed. As one cycle comes to an end, new opportunities will present themselves and a new wave of players will look to wear the maroon and white with the same tenacity, grit, perseverance, passion, pride and more. With that being said here is the Peterborough Petes depth chart heading into the 2023-2024 season!

This depth chart is organized on a few different levels with the first being age. While constructing this depth chart, I considered sorting it simply by birth year, but I instead elected to order this list by virtue of a game being played hence why someone like an '06 Braydon McCallum would be ahead of older '05 centres like Faulkner, Brett and Shier. This is not too prevalent with this Petes team heading into next season, however I wanted to clarify this point as this is simply a depth chart that does NOT focus on potential, points or ideal line combinations but rather provides a more tangible look into player ages.

This list also includes NHL drafted, but unsigned players such as C Tucker Robertson, who still could sign with the Seattle Kraken until June 1st, 2024, and at this moment would be considered to be returning for an OA season. RW Connor Lockhart is now an NHL free agent as the Vancouver Canucks did not sign him by the June 1st, 2023 deadline and at this moment would also be considered to return as an OA.

The chart separates each players age range by colour and they are as follows:
- 2003 born players are categorized by a 'red' marking and are 2023-2034 Overagers.
- 2004 born players are categorized by a 'yellow' marking.
- 2005 born players are categorized by a 'green' marking.
- 2006 born players are categorized by a 'blue' marking.
- 2007 born players are categorized by a 'purple' marking.

With no prospect development camp this offseason, but instead one larger training camp in August, this depth chart will help to give some background on Petes prospects and more immediate options. Many spots will be up for grabs and I cannot wait to see the competitiveness from players looking to make their mark and work towards another OHL championship in the near future. There will be changes to this roster via trade, free agency and more as this team looks to cut the allotted OA players down to 3 from the current 6 as well as restock the draft pick cupboard and finding other young talent in the process. I am excited to see what Mike Oke and the rest of the staff do as preparation starts for next season! There are a lot of exciting prospects in the Petes system and as the team starts this transition period, the countdown to the 2023-2024 season is already on and Petes fans can't wait. Go Petes Go!

Are you sure they aren’t doing a development camp? I haven’t seen that confirmed anywhere

Heard that from a hockey ops employee yesterday that there wouldn’t be one. Really do hope something does happen but sounds like at least at this moment it will all be later August

Rob Wilson is the best Petes coach that we have had since Dick Todd. Players want to come to Peterborough because he is the coach. Akil Thomas chose to come to Peterborough instead of going to Ottawa or London. Connor Lockhart and Brennan Othmann wanted to come to Peterborough because Rob is our coach. It was his coaching the systems he had in place and confidence in his team that help lead them to win the OHL Championship. How history repeats itself. Some fans use to complain about Dick Todd and felt we needed another head coach. He was the best coach in the OHL from 1984-1993 and how he was missed after he left for the NHL in 1993. I think Rob would be missed in a similar manner if he left for a pro opportunity.
Do you have any more insights into his coaching systems - whether that be from interviews, articles, other forms of media or even your experience from watching games.

Thanks in advance!

After the recent posts from @Section5Petes and @Petes, I'm excited about the Petes future and interested to see the deals Oke will make after their OHL championship season. I'm really hoping that the Petes can follow Hamilton's lead and took a closer look at what they did.

The Hamilton Bulldogs post championship plans
After winning the OHL Championship in 2022, Hamilton made the following significant trades…….

In the pre-season they traded OAs

  • George Diaco to London for 2nd , 3rd
  • Marco Costantini to Kitchener for 2nd , 6th (*)
This left……..OAs : Logan Morrison, Avery Hayes and Gavin White; as well as veteran 03s…...Ryan Humphrey and Ryan Winterton

At the TDL they traded OAs

  • Avery Hayes and Gavin White to the Petes for
    Nick Lardis (05 - 1st rd, 6 OV) and Sahil Panwar(OA) + 3rd , 6th (*)
  • Logan Morrison to Ottawa for
    2nd , 2nd , 3rd , 3rd , 4th , 4th
as well as 03s
  • Ryan Humphrey and Ryan Winterton to London for
    Carson Lloyd (05 - 3rd rd pick), Luca Testa (06 – 1st rd pick, 15 OV) + 2nd

By keeping Morrison, Hayes, White, Winterton and Humphrey until the deadline, the Bulldogs were able to earn enough points to be in 6th place. Even after trading away that stellar group of players, and having only 1 OA in the 2nd half, they were able to challenge the remaining players and new additions to play hard and maintain a playoff spot. The Bulldogs actually had a better 2nd half than 1st half.
In addition to strengthening their team for the future, the Bulldog players got playoff experience and the owner made some playoff $. Astute moves by the GM and a definite win-win for the Bulldogs as they head to Brantford.

Couldn't agree more this in my mind is an example of how to retool vs rebuild. The only change I would make to your post is the use of capitals on the word ASTUTE ......LOL. Cheers to you and Pete's nation on a great season!

OK, so here's what it might look like for Oke and the Petes if they follow the Bulldog plan I mentioned above:

The Petes’ post championship plans (maybe?)
Best-case scenario, the Petes return the following OAs

  • Tucker Robertson
  • Connor Lockhart
  • Sam Mayer
  • Michael Simpson
  • Jax Dubois
  • Cam Gauvreau

Let’s imagine in the pre-season they trade OAs
  • Michael Simpson, Jax Dubois and Cam Gauvreau
Hamilton traded Diaco & Costantini for 2nd , 2nd , 3rd , *6th

IMO the Petes get at least that for these three OAs.
I don’t expect players back but Oke will be able to start refilling his bare draft pick cupboard.

Dubois and Gauvreau are not top OAs stats-wise but their Mem Cup experience increases their value.

Then at the TDL they can trade
OAs - Tucker Robertson, Connor Lockhart and Sam Mayer
as well as 04s – Owen Beck and Donovan McCoy

IMO, I expect the Petes to keep Konnor Smith.

I believe they will get more for Mccoy. Not to mention, Beck + McCoy as a package would be appealing as they are buddies which would ease their adjustment.

Hamilton traded their three OAs: Logan Morrison, Avery Hayes and Gavin White for
Nick Lardis (05 - 1st rd, 6 OV) and Sahil Panwar(OA) + 2nd , 2nd , 3rd , 3rd , 3rd, 4th , 4th , 6th (*)

IMO the Petes get about the same for Robertson, Lockhart and Mayer.

Hamilton traded Ryan Humphrey and Ryan Winterton for
Carson Lloyd (05 - 3rd rd pick), Luca Testa (06 – 1st rd pick, 15 OV) + 2nd

IMO the Petes get about the same for Beck and McCoy.

I know that it's way too early to know how things will go as far as

  • OAs who actually return,
  • injuries that occur,
  • which other teams will be buying, when they will be buying and what they need
but if things go anything like this the Petes would earn a playoff spot and a strong young team going forward.

Crazy it’s in a couple days and they haven’t released any details/rosters
Just spoke to Petes Assistant Coach Derrick Walser who said there is NO development camp for this weekend nor is there one planned for the foreseeable future. Only the normal August Training Camp at this moment is planned

That’s too bad -I was looking forward to the news coming out of that development camp.

So far my summer is boring -the Jays are having a terrible time , the Lakers are imploding and I am not a soccer or football fan.

Seems like there is no Petes news at all -not even any signings announced

Well that’s awkward because I’m pretty sure there are prospects and parents who are expecting it this weekend.
