I wasn't able to check out the rookie camp.......how did Quizi look in goal?
He's an 05 who put up great numbers in the OJHL last year......in 34 games he had a 2.79 GAA and a SV% of 0.912
Looked like the “vet” of the group as he should with some Jr.A experience under his belt… curious to see how they handle the crease next season.

I think they probably want to go Sztuska starter, Rye backup and then 2024-2025 season Rye would be starter and I think thats what’s going to happen. Quizi could make a really strong push and I fully expect him to do so and it really comes down to how they want to commit to the retool with the backup decision. Sztuska will get majority of the starts and knowing that, probably makes more sense to go with the ‘06 Rye and mould him fully into the starter with the most available seasons to play

Now that the 2023 Development Camp has been completed, there still remains significant excitement around next years Petes team as well as the beginnings of a strong future core that hopes to become OHL Champions once again.

This spreadsheet highlights each player who attended the 2023 Development Camp this past weekend, June 23-24, at Hybrid Fitness and the Kinsmen Civic Centre. Each player is listed by alphabetical order and separated by position, with games played, goals, assists, wins, losses, and shutouts being the main statistics being tracked. Ideally more information such as time on ice, shift length, shots, saves, etc would have also been listed to give a better idea of player performances over the weekend, however, this spreadsheet helps to provide a basis for attendees and players to watch as we prepare for the main 2023 Peterborough Petes Training Camp in later August.

- LW Owen McNamara ('05) led the development camp in points with 8 (4g, 4a),
- LW Owen McNamara ('05) led the camp with 4 assists
- LW Nathan Leek ('05) led the camp with 5 goals
- G Christopher Quizi ('05) led the camp with 3 wins
- G Masen Johnston ('07) led the camp with 2 shutouts

I don’t think Evan Dantas ended up playing because he wasn’t listed on any of the team rosters they put out

CHL Import draft coming up on Wednesday at 11:00am ET. Petes have the 31st pick overall but some teams may pass ahead of them.
I'm guessing that Oke selects a Dman.
Beyond that I don't have a clue......some years he drafts players that were just picked in the NHL draft and other years he is totally off the board........Tommy Purdeller was not on my radar, but he showed grit and confidence in the 2nd half - I'm excited to see what Tommy Boy can do this season.

Here is a list of some potential Import Dman that are possible picks.
-Some are 06s or late birthday 05s heading into their NHL draft season and may want to increase their stock by showing what they can do in North America.
- others are 05s who went undrafted in the NHL draft and may be looking to show scouts up close what they missed last season with a hope to get picked next year
- all of these players were mentioned online as having some interest in the CHL but I don't have any verification
- some of these players are presently unsigned for next season while others are signed for next season (so they would have to be bought out of those contracts I would assume......hope the Petes saved some $$ from the playoff run!)

It's a crap shoot......so much of it has to do with connections CHL teams have with European coaches and player agents. There are Swiss and Czech players on this list so maybe chatting with Brian Zanetti or Dominik Masin could tip the scales in Peterborough's favour. The fact that the Petes won the OHL championship this season should help Oke's credibility when he is in discussions with players agents.

Great CHL Import Draft primer from @Bra Wavers! Highlights the difficulties teams can have in identifying, attracting and ultimately signing Import players while reaffirming the importance of establishing and maintaining positive relationships with European organizations, players, individuals and more.

Below is a spreadsheet that lists every CHL Import draft dating back to the year 2000 and focuses on each pick the Petes have made or passed on during that time. It is relatively safe to say that the Petes have not always had the greatest success with import drafts over the years, however players such as Dominik Masin, Liam Kirk, David Maier, Brian Zanetti and Tommy Purdeller have held some promise over the last decade. Here is hoping for a strong import draft with the potential for that player to be apart of the Petes young and exciting core moving forward.

Spokane's David Jiricek selection ended up being a disaster, as they kept his rights to this day but he never reported and instead developed into a 6th overall NHL pick and national team player over in Czechia. Many are saying his younger brother Adam is even better and he's already played some pro games, some of which he led in ice time. I really don't see him going any other way than his brother did, but he'd be an intriguing pick nonetheless.

I do like Muggli quite a bit.

The Petes will hold the 31st and 91st overall selections in July 5th's CHL Import Draft beginning at 11am. As always, opportunities at having higher selections due to other teams passing will be prevalent and could put the Petes' 1st round selection in an even higher and desired spot. Hopefully Petes are able to get a young stud to build around with the new core.

The elimination of Russians and Belarusians from the import draft is another challenge GMs face now…..excited to welcome our newest Pete.

They’re keeping Purdeller and only making one pick.

Petes select Rio Kaiser a BIG LD from Germany.
Love the pick…..he’s a late 06 which means his NHL draft is not until 2025!

Here are some comments about Kaiser made by @Maverick41 who knows German hockey:

Since you mentioned Rio Kaiser, even if mostly for his name, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Kaiser will probably not become some great defenseman, at least not to the point where he will turn into a legit NHL prospect. At least that is my feeling.
He has great size but in my limited viewings of him he struggles to figure out what to do with it and the rest of his tools are average at best. I do think there is some potential there if he ever figures it out and keeps working on his game overall, but my guess would be that if that ever happens it will be in his early twenties, not in his late teens. I am rooting for the kid, but at this point I am not that optimistic. I need to watch him more though, but that has been difficult to do lately.

After reading this I think the Petes are a great fit.
He strikes me as the kind of kid that could be developed in the mold of Konnor Smith......only bigger!
I get bruises just thinking about that. If Konnor is the big rig, what do we call this guy? "The Bigger Rig"?
He played at the Red Bull Academy like Purdeller so that could be connection.
