Aside from roster spots that need to be filled, there are three positions within the Peterborough Petes Organization that now need to be filled.
- President of the Peterborough Petes (Dave Pogue outgoing)
- Assistant Coach (Derrick Walser outgoing)
- Director of Merchandise (Don Sharp outgoing)

If I had to guess I would expect a new President to be announced within this month and aside from exterior options, current Vice President’s Dave Lorentz and Rod McGillis could very well be in the mix.

The Petes cannot trade everyone. They need to keep some returning players to be able to ice a team. They cannot have a team of all rookies, They will keep players like Tommy Purdeller, Jonathan Melee and Chase Lefebvre and maybe Donovan McCoy and the younger players.
Agreed and I am not saying that what I am saying is that if the Petes get a good offer for players that anyone is available. I am not saying they are going to trade everyone but the 19 and 20-year-olds are all avail if the deal is right

The Petes will have to balance the need to be able to ice a team that can compete every night and rebuilding. We all know that Owen Beck will be traded. The Petes will likely get a young player and multiple draft picks for him. Konnor Smith will in all likelihood be traded for a 17 or 18 year old player. I am not sure will happen with Donovan McCoy as he could be an overage player in 2024-2025. If the Petes get a great offer for him they will likely trade him but if the only get an offer for a couple of draft picks I doubt they will trade him. The players I listed early could be traded for the right offer. I have to think the Petes are going to go with three overage players this coming season. I think the likely scenario is they keep Connor Lockhart, Jax Dubois and Sam Mayer to start the season. I think they would likely keep Dubois for the season but could trade Lockhart and Mayer if the price is right at the deadline and if that happens they will trade for other team’s excess overages. Michael Simpson in my opinion will be traded as they Liam Sztuska is likely ready for the starting role and they also have Easton Rye who is their goaltender of the future. Cam Gauvreau could also be in the mix as an overage. I think if the Petes do the rebuild right they could be competitive next season like Hamilton was and still build towards the future.

Let's not forget Tucker Robertson could possibly be back as well as Avon.

Both are now AHL eligible and NHL signed but there is still technically a chance. If they were returned to the Petes, Beck, Robertson and Avon would net great returns. Would do insane wonders for the rebuild

I am not sure if either will be back because they are both signed by their NHL teams. If one or both were to return. I could see both starting the season with the Petes as two or our three overages along with Sam Mayer. I think Tucker could be traded at the deadline but only if the Petes got the right deal with a player included. I think JR would stay because he is from Peterborough and would likely want to finish his career as a Pete.

Who will take over Derrick Walser's spot now that he is moving on. The Petes need a bright young guy who can among other things improve the teams Power Play. Where does O'Connor fit in now that a change will be made?

Just because a player signs to play for a Junior B does not prevent him from leaving that team to play in the OHL if they make their OHL after training camp.
I am well aware of that. However if he had been guaranteed a spot he likely would not have signed elsewhere…(much like Cadorin for example) still a chance he makes the team but gives some insight into what the team is thinking.

As a 16 year old fifth round draft pick who plays right defence he is not a lock to make the team this year but based on the fact he was Petes third pick in the draft he should make team. The Petes have Donovan McCoy, and 1st round draft pick Carson Cameron taking two spots at that position and Lucas Tuin in the mix for the third so he is battling Tuin for the third spot. I believe he is covering all his basis in case he does not make the team.

Key takeaways here:

- Coach Wilson is open to an extension to stay in PBO. Still interested in going pro but only if it’s the right situation for his family

- Don’t count out the Petes next season. Wilson says they aren’t sure which OAs will be back and they could lead next seasons team.

- Talks about a “best case scenario” lineup that the three centreman could be Beck, Robertson and Purdeller. (If Beck and Robertson are back)

- Wilson says he’s very comfortable with Mayer-McCoy + Smith-Cameron as his top four D pairs to start the year

- Singles out Lefebrve and Melee as two guys who could make big strides next season up front

- Sztuska “chomping at the bit to be a starter in OHL”

You're probably right........Oke played defense.
What about Paddy O'Connor? Will he just maintain his role as eye in the sky?
Yeah I forgot about him. Maybe O’Connor on the bench and Oke takes his spot + still does skill development. I believe Nate Oke is also coaching the U18’s this season.

Speaking of the U18 team they should be pretty talented next year…

Draft picks who could play there

Johnston - G
Lynds - F
Parish - F
Thatcher - D

Would be nice if they could sign guys like Lee, Del Colombo and Hartnell and place them there so they can practise with the OHL team.

Add Director of Business Operations to the List - Burton may be the hardest one of all to replace.

Simpson has done the best by far.

Josh Kavanagh (03 like Simpson) has been a 5/6 Dman with the Petes and Colts.

05s: Quinton Page and Sam McCue could turn into something - they didn't get much ice-time on the veteran OHL championship roster this season after a season with the U18 team the previous year.

i guess my question is would those guys not have been the same if they just stayed at home and played u18 locally. i just dont know if peterborough u18 has done a better development job then other u18 is all.

I think it has more to do with the Petes prospects being in Peterborough, at the Memorial Centre getting practice opportunities with the real Petes and the coaches, development staff, resources, video rooms etc
