A real jerk thing
I think they shouldn't have resigned Carter because he's a goatse-sized gaping defensive hole, but some people love a good gape.
Yeah in terms of 3rd line production his cap hit is fine. The concern I’ve always had is the coaching staff seems to think he’s good defensively and he is not. At all.I think they shouldn't have resigned Carter because he's a goatse-sized gaping defensive hole, but some people love a good gape.
Yeah, and I gotta say, for a team that supposedly puts a lot of stock in data and stats, it's really weird to see these sorts of decisions with the lineup. Objectively Carter is simply not good defensively. He wasn't last year, he's not this year, it's not like he's having some sort of weird down year or he's saving it for the postseason. The eye test and the stats both show it. And yet we see him trotted out as 3C over and over and over.Yeah in terms of 3rd line production his cap hit is fine. POJ ... still a rookie who people were ready to waive a month ago
I'm right there with ya, but at the same time I'm not ready to declare him as a top 4 defenseman either. Nor do I think that Dumo is going to make a miraculous recovery.Christ that was infuriating.
I'm curious to see if having McGinn on his RW instead of Kapanen changes anything, especially if McGinn keeps producing close to what he has been doing the last couple of weeks. Maybe McGinn can clean up some of those defensive deficiencies. I'd also be curious in trying Heinen - Blueger - Carter for the same reason.Yeah, and I gotta say, for a team that supposedly puts a lot of stock in data and stats, it's really weird to see these sorts of decisions with the lineup. That's not to say having a vet like him on the team is a necessarily horrible idea, but we've got a lot of vets, and while Carter's good at faceoffs, he's bad defensively. Ideally, he'd be 3RW, but...
You have to make room the incredible Ty Smith!Christ that was infuriating.
Sorry but the entire board kind of sucks at evaluating talent. Everyone really wanted to move Pettersson too. I thought McGinn and Zucker sucked. And honestly these guys all sucked hard at some point and for long stretches. So maybe it isn’t an issue with talent evaluation, but just that hockey is weird and unpredictable and it is nerdy to discuss these thing every day
I said sorryIt wasn't even about talent evaluation. Asset management more than anything.
Boston is 1/3th of the way to locking up a post-season admission.
Penguins are about 1/6th of the way there... 77 games to go.
Need a solid 80 points.
Metro is a lot more difficult to crack a top 3. It isn't a runaway like ATL div.
Win tonight. Very big. Yes. Very very important....
Wanting to get rid of players isn't always about talent evaluation.Sorry but the entire board kind of sucks at evaluating talent. Everyone really wanted to move Pettersson too. Agreed. That plus our win against them last week has me feeling like we’re about to lose.the last time the Pens faced Matt Murray , as they will tonight, he was a member of the Sens and last February he stopped 42 of their 43 shots…lol…the Pens only won because CDS stopped all of the 26 shots he faced…I don’t have a good feeling about them facing Murray tonight unless he shows some nerves
It's all probably a front to pretend Sully's not that massive xenophobe, right? Has to be.TWO YEARS

Besides, this core has all the time in the world. Two years is nothin'.

I never understood the Pettersson hate. I think a lot of it is because we've got some size queens around here, but also before the moves this offseason, their defense was too expensive and too bland. Matheson was more unique and there was still some hope that Dumo just needed to get healthy. So even if I didn't totally agree with it, there was valid reasons to want to move Petts.
With McGinn and Zucker, I think it is more about contracts than anything, but also usage for McGinn and injuries for Zucker.
I hated Petts because well, he sucked last year. Sully even benched him for a number of games. He was getting walked and bullied around the net too easily.
For me tt's not about being a size queen. I DGAF if we have 6 Dumos (the good version) who ties up sticks in front of the net or 6 Brooks Orpiks who cross check guys. Do something to eliminate the dude standing right in front of your goalie. Petts was doing neither.
This year has been a revelation. He looks stronger and more confident in his game. I did not see this coming...he's probably on PED's lol
I can't imagine Hextall and Sullivan are all that close right? Why has Kapanen not been traded yet?
