We have one week until free agency, they've been negotiating for a year. You act like the player is the only one making demands here. Sure sounds like the team gave him an ultimatum a while ago.

Limited patience for the guy who locked up 37 year old Jeff Carter before figuring out the money for an all-time great. All the offers floated publicly (likely BS but still) have been pretty disrespectful so not really feeling the love for the GM. Just get the deal done.

Literally no one said that.

This endless haggling and drama over what are likely small differences is tiresome though. I won't really get on his case unless Malkin goes to free agency, so there's time. But these are much stickier negotiations than we've ever seen with Geno and I'm not sure how I feel about what is essentially scrounging in every last nook and cranny for some pennies when it comes to a player who has meant as much as Malkin has. It's starting to leave a sour taste in my mouth.

Most of the reports have said Hextall and Malkin are a long way apart. The idea Malkin might meet 6m if it got to 4 years is the closest we've heard to them being near, and even that was only a might.

If the Pens really offered 5M AAV then I can see how they would be far apart. But 3x7 vs 4x6 or 3x6.5, these aren't huge differences. I don't think anyone believes that Malkin is asking for near his current AAV, so what's the justifiable hold up here from the team's perspective?

Instead of trying to NOT sign Malkin, how about our brass do their jobs and get rid of a $4M Petterrssson :mad:.

I ain’t sayin be patient with hextall. Just be patient with this situation. Geno will re sign.

Yeah, there is still time just not thrilled with what seems to be looking for every last penny considering everything Malkin has meant to the team. If it goes into free agency then it becomes awkward even if he did sign here. Respect is a pretty big thing for him. I would say there is something to the reporting that he is a little miffed by the offers so far. I do go back to last playoffs as well. Playing on that knee wasn't something he had to do but he did. I'd like to see a little less haggling at this point. But there is still a week. And I do consider the possibility that he and his agent are asking for something like 9m at 3-4 years and playing games in the press to put pressure on Hextall, but I guess we'll see.

So far everything that Dave Pagnotta of TFP has linked teams and players to or mostly to resign with has happened. He has Petts linked to Kings .. He has Malkin linked to 4-5 teams though.
 
Reading Letang's comments just makes me feel more and more confident that the "Malkin is willing to test free agency" stuff that came out from LeBrun is pure posturing from his agent.

There's no way I believe that Malkin would walk if he wants $6 million over 4 years while the Penguins are offering $6 million over 3 years.

I will be absolutely shocked if Geno isn't retained.

Yeah I don't see Geno going anywhere. Teams that can contend, most likely can't afford him, and crappy teams that have the cap space, he wouldn't want to play for.

I think we need to look in the right places for improvement….

With about $1.2M saved on Letang, +$3M on Geno, +$4M on Pettersson.

Get rid of McGinn replaced with someone from WBS…savings $1.5M.

Save $1.5M on Kapanen with a prove it deal.

That’s $11.2M….
There is no reason we can’t make our D tougher, get a top 6 winger, and retool our bottom 6.

The only thing that will stop us is Ron Hextall’s unwillingness to be proactive.

6M x 4?? easily worth it. Frontload the first 3 years and the 4th is meh and retires trade Petts to LA for cap space, re-sign Rakell and maybe we have room for another top 6 winger for Geno? if we got the cap space idk. or maybe no Rakell and make space for someone like Forsberg if we can get the cap room.

the people hangin on these resignings simply dont' get it.

What is the point of following this team, they aren't even trying to compete right now.

It's all about the appearance to their most ignorant segment of their fanbase.
